The loading process is the same, regardless of if a rifle is semi or fully automatic.

This was a semi automatic in this case.

If it took him 10 seconds, it would have been because he had no idea what he was doing.

But the legality is rather different. I wasn't just speaking about loading, I was talking about what type of weapon this might be.

It's probably not fully automatic, although, being El Paso, it could be. Lots of military guns flowing through.

If it took him 10 seconds, it's because he came in without a more efficient means of storing his ammo, other than loose cargo pants, requiring him to reach down and possibly fumble to get it. I wouldn't choose cargo pants with pockets as low as his, if it were me. Of course, it was a fuzzy picture. Maybe he had nice side pockets.

I bet this guy was not exactly military in any case. 2 seconds would be quite the expert sharpshooter. I don't think he's that. I bet he had to stop walking to do it, as well.

Such a brave patriot, making sure he can reload quickly to kill as many people as possible without putting himself at risk.

What kind of person shoots and kills the 4 month old infant of an innocent stranger? A repulsive coward.

I hope the FBI looks closely at all the surveillance and personal video to make sure there weren't any accomplices. It's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I'm so sick of these people.
BBM:

This guy really strikes me as being more of the loner type.

I strongly suspect that what we'll come to find out about him is that he kept himself pretty well isolated, and that he alienated himself from others.

I doubt he had any close friends, and few even casual friends.

It definitely wasn’t, you could tell by the rate of gunfire.

Military style weapons still require a modification to make them fully automatic, and they (automatic weapons) are rarely used in crimes like this.

It looks like an AK-47 to me.

Most reports say "AK style" rifle - as the MSM almost always do.

CBSN just said that AP may be wrong about shooter's name AND the number dead.

The conflicting reports are just chaotic. :(

Luckily Texas has the death penalty :(

So, given the number of victims, then, did the creep have another magazine on him?
If so, how long does it take to reload an AK?
Probably..... About 2-3 seconds to drop out an empty magazine and insert a loaded one, if you know what you are doing......moo

Which IMO, he won't get because they will want to study him.
Have any mass shooter's gotten the death penalty?
The ones who didn't commit suicide?
I need to Google that.

Yep.

And, unlike states like Colorado that have the DP but absolutely refuse to utilize it,
Texas actually believes in sentencing the most dangerous criminals to, and carrying out the DP, when warranted as just punishment for heinous crimes committed against innocent victims.

He's a dead man walking.

FWIW. It's not doing anything to prevent these putrid excuses for human beings from massacring innocent, unsuspecting members of the public. These individuals aren't usually concerned about the death penalty.

Not an expert by any means, but I will bet that's an AR 15, very common all over the country, neighbor down the road was target shooting this after noon. You don't have to be an expert marksman to use it effectively. That's why these creeps use them. Mostly in a venue where no one returns fire. (I think he may have been looking for LE to take him out) MOO

This is Texas, I have little doubt he’ll get the death penalty.

He can still be studied for years, as it takes a long time to be put to death.

Dylan Roof received the death penalty for his federal charges.

Are we allowed to state the shooter's name/show face?
Also, the fact that these mass shootings are happening multiple times a week as we enter the school year this month is terrifying. Going to school everyday after Parkland was terrifying, and now we have to worry about grocery stores?

I think (and hope) he will get the death penalty. He really deserves it.
The problem is that Texas has the death penalty but it takes forever to execute (some DR inmates were sentenced in the 70's and never executed....o_O)

It is a semi-auto AKM ( legal in Texas AK47 variant copy) with a 30 round magazine shown in the photos earlier.....moo

This is true. You're right. I know the death penalty is not the perfect deterrent.
Those psychos don't give a damn about being sentenced to death.
But I think capital punishment can give some relief to the victim's families.

Always know where the exits are. Make it the first thing you do in when you walk into an unfamiliar place. Teach kids to do it. KISS always know where the exits are !!

These people tend to focus on “soft targets,” crowded places that are vulnerable to this sort of thing.

If they want to attack a particular place, they will find a way.
