He was questioned and thinks it was to compare his story to those of his wife and Karl. He said he saw Alanna (did not say what time) who went to play with a friend.

9 days later to have Dad to the station, seems like a long time after the crime to me. This must be at least his second questioning, IMO.

There was also a list of items taken from the house and some were not mentioned in the SW, I believe. I can't remember the items now, sorry. We'll find out later unless someone else remembers what they are.

I don't recall, but nothing jumped out at me.

Anything on the news conference with dad? I got busy with DD. what'd I miss??

I'm not sure but I think this was the first time Miles was interviewed alone by LE and he went in voluntarily. Threeplus1, did I get that right?

I don't have a link handy, but I believe all three parents spent considerable time being questioned the night of the homicide and the next day.

Great observation on the tarp having pool/spa residue! I had not considered that. I don't know anyone around me who covers their pools...not many trees in my part if Texas. The main thing I see tarps being used for is to cover boats.

Interesting. Our little 2' deep x 6' wide wading pool has a tarp over when we aren't it because dirt gets in it easily. Plus I rescued a bee out of it w/ our skimmer and the damn thing flew up and stung my face, so nuts to that! I keep it covered! I treat the water so that I don't have to keep dumping it, and can definitely see the tarp having chemical residue on it from the water touching it.

The NBC story is pretty short compared to the broadcast (more info there). Hopefully there will be a link soon with video.

Yes, I believe the reporter said he had been waiting to go in and was expecting the questioning. I kind of got the feeling that maybe the other two had already been interviewed alone by the police--but that wasn't said by him...just the way he said the police were confirming their stories.

Not to be contrary or a "know it all", but in my experience bio-hazard tape is generally orange (some might call red, though) - generally body fluids.......or yellow - for example chemotherapeutics or other chemicals.

I also commonly see NFPA labels (red/blue/yellow/white) - most commonly used to help with firefighting.

If someone else has other experience, please don't hesitate to correct/expand. Thanks!

Bio-hazard tape used by hospitals, hospices, home health care workers, etc is RED. Red is the color designated for a bio-hazard. All of the biohazard bags I have ever seen ( like a blood sample would be put in, and the large ones for trash) are RED.

SOME independent labs use clear bags with an orange- red label and the Biohazard symbol.. not the same thing as the tape I am referring to. If you have seen it, you know it's fire engine red.

I don't know a thing about what firefighters use anywhere, but I have used biohazard sealing tape, bags, and hard plastic receptacles since health care practices suggested/ mandated their use. :)

Anyone- quick- if you go to a hospital or doctor's office which has a syringe disposal unit, what color is it? Usually RED. Ever have to take a 24 hour urine collection specimen to a doctor's office? What color was the bag you put the collection bottle in? RED.

There's even a common sentence used for a potentially contaminated item " RED BAG IT!" :)

I concede that some reds do look orange-ish but the designated color for a biohazard warning is red and biohazard sealing tape which I am talking about is BRIGHT red, at least in the parts of the USA where I have seen it.

I mentioned the color of the tape specifically because, again, using Occam's razor which would mean that the items used on the body were items at hand, if someone with access to a lab, doctor's office or other care facility was involved with this crime, the RED TAPE could be Bio-hazard tape and be a clue.

LE said they took restraints because she was taped.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Or are they thinking this perp is so tiny and weak s/he would have to restrain a child to tape her?

They asked on the warrant for things that can restrain. Why?
I tried to answer earlier, but my browser went into spin mode.

I don't see that statement. It's possible that evidence exists which shows restraints were used in addition to the tape. We still don't know the actual condition of her body, or what the crime entailed. So heaven knows what was done to the poor child. Macon did say, however, that there was no indication of mistreatment in the home. That's an extremely important detail, IMO.

“There’s nothing to indicate that there was mistreatment in the home of these children,” he said.

“Miss Gallagher was bound with some fashion of tape,” Macon said. “It was as much the goal of the search team to retrieve items to exclude the parents as suspects as ... it was to collect items we would consider evidentiary in value. “This, of course, would require taking samples from their residence.”

“The Gallagher/McDaniel family considers Miles as a parent, and we are being considerate of their lifestyle; it’s not our place to offer judgment on them,” Macon said.
“As with any criminal investigation, each of the people closest to the victim is being considered, and their actions investigated.”

“There’s nothing on the list that most people would not have in their home,” he said.

“As I stated to a concerned resident earlier this morning, what we see in TV police shows is not the way trace evidence works in real life,” Macon said.

“The crime lab does not produce results in minutes or hours, but rather in days, weeks and months. We do not expect to see ... any comparative results in less that two weeks, which leaves old-fashioned police work as our primary resource at this time.”

“They have isolated most, if not all, vehicles entering and exiting both neighborhoods on the day of the murder,” he said. “Other investigators have then gone back to the neighborhoods to find the cars seen in the videos.

“It’s not that any one of them is a suspect, it’s simply that we are tracking each car/truck down to verify that they belong in that neighborhood.”

“Again, sometimes it’s better to find exclusions, then work from there,” he said.

This last one is a partial quote:

Macon described the “arm and leg restraints” mentioned in the warrant as novelty items used by adults.

Alanna Gallagher's Father: "I Want Justice"

NBC/DFW
Tuesday, Jul 9, 2013 | Updated 9:22 PM CDT
Miles McDaniel, the father of 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher, spoke about this daughter's death for the first time on Tuesday, shortly after speaking with investigators for a few hours.
"I want to find out who did this," he said. "I want justice. And I hope that they can be found."

"I know there's always that suspicion -- I know the odds are high that it's a family member in this sort of situation," McDaniel said. "I can say that anyone who knows our family knows better."

The other thing that peaked my interest w/ that headline is who they are considering "the parents" in that statement? Just the biological parents or is the other guy also not considered a prime suspect? The article said something about both dads being listed in the obituary and that LE is respecting their lifestyle (paraphrasing)... but that does not mean that LE considers the extra guy an actual parent.

you've got mom, legal dad, bio dad... as conservative as i am, i think of them all as her parents...
