TX - Austin Package Bombs #2

Not like Boy Scouts or any Bible camp I've seen. More like survivalism mixed with training for war and reading the Bible. Scary.

Unless I'm missing something R.I.O.T Bible Camp seems a bit extreme to me.

Such a shame. I feel deeply for his family and for Mark. I know that isn't a popular opinion, but to quote his (I believe) mother, what darkness must have sucked Mark in. I hope people respect the family as their grieve (I know they won't, people are horrible but I can still hope).

How about the families of the actual victims?

How bizarre. I wonder what he was doing there!

I think I recall someone in LE saying in the media (early this morning) that he was just sitting in the parking lot. Could be he was figuring out where to make the next drop for his bombs or suspected LE were on his trail so went there to get off I35 and hide for a while. They located him through cell phone pings, then slowly, carefully put a bunch of unmarked cars and vans into the area.

ETA: They said he was sitting in his car in the parking lot. Looks like he was driving a red SUV of some kind. Probably handed down from his parents. I know his crimes are horrible, but I feel badly for his family. He was still young enough that, if someone recognized his problems he could have gotten help and turned himself around. As a parent I feel sorrow for any young people who get caught up in horrible crimes, take others lives and lose their own. It's tragic for all involved.

OK, I'm LOL'ing here at "survivalists" and "Pflugerville" in the same sentence.

Arming teens with guns, knives, discussions about chemicals, which ones are dangerous, and calling the group by the acronym RIOT? Seems a bit wacky to me.

Unless I'm missing something this seems a bit extreme to me.

Ok. Let's flip the script. Bunch of Muslim American kids have a religious camp where they arm them with knives and guns, discuss chemicals, read the Koran, and conduct mock battles. Would you find it odd then?

I'll clarify. I find R.I.O.T Bible Camp extreme and bizarre. Unless it's just Boy Scouts-type of survivalism.
I agree with you!

Without wanting to feed any tit-for-tat arguments, engaging people who think differently than we do may be very useful for minimizing the percentage of people who keep moving away from social integration.

After Timothy McVeigh I wondered if people had purposefully engaged him would he have continued to move away from social integration to the point where he would feel justified to destroy other human beings as he did? Since then, I have made it a point to talk with people I would not normally have spoken to.

There is no perfect world, but since the 1960s minimizing percentages of extreme behavior where wrong thinking is the root is a thing people can work toward by engagement. But, in this era it seems people no longer reach out or listen to each other in the same way.

These things are simply my perceptions reflecting the past 50 years.

Those are interesting thoughts and I commend you for trying to have engagement with some that you normally would never engage.

My reply is general and im not addressing the bomber or any specific group of people.

I would add that some people are of the type that no matter what someone does they will avoid interaction with others and they will put up walls that are practically unbreakable.

I also think the internet has had many negatives along with some positives when it comes to people interacting with each other on a personal level. Im talking really trying to get to know someone and have deep meaningful discussions on a personal level. There are some things that only face to face communication would be the way to go.

I think the internet all too often provides only a superficial means to allow kids to begin to learn how to associate and deal with other real people at work, college, and other real life places. They may think they are getting that experience when really they may be getting a false view of things. Then the day arrives where they are put in a position where they are not equipped to handle things as well as they would have been if they had more experience with personal interactions.

The other thing that I have seen is that some cultures in some states are much more closed and not open with one another as much as other states. And the hard thing to grasp is that the culture itself tends to mold people into that same mentality. If anyone has traveled extensively then you will know what I mean. There are exceptions to everything but there are also certain traits that can be commonly seen with certain cultures as one travels about.

I guess all we can do is try to engage and help each other wherever and whenver we can.

Could it be that MAC didn’t really intend to blow himself up and accidentally detonated one of the bombs?

Streets opened back up.

Trying to get a picture

People have been using religion since the Roman times to validate wiping out a demographics of people before supposedly cleansing the land.

But they all were just nut jobs hoping to get a blessing for their evil ways.

The mind wants what the mind wants.

You're right. However, religion can inspire strong feelings in unbalanced people. I have a book called Wisconsin Death Trip about life and death on the frontier (it has tons of newspaper clippings and quotes) and the amount of what they called religious delusion was pretty intense.

Some mental hospitals did not allow the patients to have bibles because it would set them off!!!

But I do agree. People intent on wreaking havoc will find whatever justifcation they can.

Once again, terrorism has a pretty clear definition. What political agenda was he attempting to advance? He may very well have a motive that falls under the definition of terrorism, I just haven’t seen it yet.

We don't know yet. I'm waiting for a manifesto to be discovered.

I had a feeling that this was a younger guy after he decided to rush his package that wasnt ready and exploded at the FedEx facility.

Good instincts. I would swear this was an older person!!!

I agree with you!

Yeah, not like the bible camps I went to!

Maybe police shot the bomb when they caught him, which is what caused it to explode? I know shots were fired.

Maybe police **** the bomb?

If they're opening roads up again, it sounds like they've swept the area and removed anything that's a danger to the neighborhood. That said, they'll probably still be spending a lot of time at his home in the coming days collecting evidence.

I have seen reports that said he went into a ditch before blowing up the device, but I think they are only referring to that cener grassy media as a "ditch”. In the videos, you can see that it slants down towards the center from both road sides. Videos and photos can ge found here: http://www.khou.com/article/news/lo...pect-dead-after-blowing-self-up/285-530547258

Agents with the FBI and ATF are working to remove and dispose of homemade explosives that were found at his home located at 403 Second Street in Pflugerville, authorities said. Authorities said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon that no "completed" devices were found inside the home, but similar components of the previous devices were found in primarily one room of the home.

Let me know if I can post a picture. Someone alert a mod please.

I'm just glad that the guy is caught.

Because he seemed like he wanted to eventually spread his bombs throughout America.
