GUILTY TX - Bimal Patel, 29, burned alive, Austin, 17 April 2012

  • #41
I have been watching this trial since Tuesday and it is the most unorganized trial I have ever seen. Full of side bars and sending the jury out. Defence complaining about evidence.

I won't be surprised if the judge gives the defense a continuance.

Jewels, Have there been any interesting witnesses so far?

Prosecutors continue to present Farrell with items as he looks them over and explains how he tested them, among them roll of painter’s tape.

Farrell says he used a dye stain that made the prints glow on the gas can and then documented them with photographs.

Now that I finally figured out that the "clunk" sound on WhoopWhoop was the chats popping up , and that I can close it, I like this stream.
Nice big viewing area.

Geevee did you get a stream?

Not yet, went to WAT but it said it had ended. :( I'll keep trying and keep up via the tweets posted. :)

I would say this morning which some saw and probably the most important was the fire investigator and he said it was arson. That it was not suicide done by the husband.

On Tuesday they started showing some of the pictures of him in the hospital when the attending Dr was on the stand. Those were awful they showed how his mouth was being held open. Quickly the camera was shut off and they quit live streaming while the picture's were being shown.

Other than that it has mainly been officer's and medical personal.

Thank you. What a horrendous way to die. Clearly she took a considerable amount of time to plan and carry out the murder. Did she actually think she could get away with it? It was a planned marriage that she wanted out of so I guess that's her motive?

That clunk drove me crazy and I didn't realize it could be silenced so got out of there fast.

Chelly & Jewels, there is a tiny "x" to close out chat in the upper right corner of the chat box, if you ever end up on WhoopWhoop again (I really want to put an exclamation point on the end of "WhoopWhoop". Seems to call for one, yes? ;) )

ETA- LOL, Tiger. You sure it's not AT me? Twice today I have laughed at myself, I will not be offended :giggle:.
Just one of those days.....

Wood says it was the Travis County district attorney’s office that asked those items be tested, not the police investigators.

Statesman Courts ‏@AustinCourts 1m
Wood says it took nearly two years to test for investigators to ask Farrell to test the items. They were tested this year.

After more listing of items, defense lawyer Jackie Wood now begins her cross-examination.

Jennifer Benitez takes the stand. She is a latent print examiner with the Austin Police Department.

In response to Wood, Farrell says the candlesticks were not requested to be tested. No further questions.

Farrell collects and tests prints. Benitez says she uses various techniques to identify those prints. She runs through her background.

:seeya: Ok, I have to run.. hope someone will put up the testimony on youtube.

Benitez: Prints on white bucket matched the right palm, left palm and index finger of Shriya Patel.

Statesman Courts ‏@AustinCourts 1m
Benitez said Shriya Patel’s prints were found on clear plastic bag pieces, which prosecutors have said were used to cover the sprinklers.
