GUILTY TX - Bimal Patel, 29, burned alive, Austin, 17 April 2012

  • #421
So did the judge rule in favor of the defense and not give them an answer? I doubt the judge would give probation and I'm sure the defense doesn't want them to know he'd be doling out the sentence if they can't come to an agreement, seems kinda carpy to keep the jurors in the dark about the truth..in a court of law.

There were no more tweets after that. I guess they went to lunch (The lawyers) and the jury is still deliberating?

Bailiff says defense objected to having their question answered. Jurors will continue working. They haven't been ordered lunch. This was the last tweet?

Yeah, I don't see any more tweets either, I hope they've had lunch ordered at least, who knew pizza takes an hour to be delivered? In Texas pizza is def. not worth waiting an hour for, they've never learned how to make one right.

Twitter is currently down for maintenance.

I have been flipping to Jaws on commercials, but mainly watched "The Following" and this new show on A&E called "Those Who Kill".
Those Who Kill premiered last week and I was totally hooked, if you have a chance, check it out. It is really creepy and well written (and the main characters back story could be a thread on WS, from what I am gleaning so far).

Anyway, I had to get off the PC for a while, my eyes were glazed and my neck was in knots. Saw the tweets that jury went home, so hopefully in the morning we won't have to wait long :).
Have a good night fellow Ws'ers :loveyou:

(And check out Those who Kill, really, it's a good show!)

Darn it... I missed this trial! I did catch a replay of that show "Those who kill" this weekend though. Soooo good!!!

Now they all left?

Not a good time for Twitter maintenance!

We have a verdict on punishment on the trial of Shriya Patel. It will take awhile to round everyone back in the courtroom.

I don't know if this is accurate it apparently happened while Twitter was down?

This was posted 25 minutes ago?

Jury sentences Shriya Patel to 20 years, no fine. #PatelTrial

That is more than I thought they would give her!

Works for me.
Not enough for murder, but better than her being free now with time served or only a couple years.

The sad part was she didn't even look affected by any of this. No tears or sadness or anything, just blank stares.

No fine? Will she serve all 20 and then be deported?

Works for me too, better than I thought they may give. Any clue who the allocution witness is?

In closing, although the form has a place for up to 10,000. in fine, the prosecution said they weren't asking for a fine because she had no means to pay it.

No! I just read these tweets.

Statesman Courts ‏@AustinCourts 2m
Shriya Patel has already served two years in jail, and she will have to serve a quarter of her sentence before she is eligible for parole.

Statesman Courts ‏@AustinCourts 3m
Defense lawyer Joe James Sawyer tells reporters Shriya Patel can get out of prison in three years.

I am not happy now!
