I believe that I read that it has a peephole and I imagine he opened the door when he saw that it was an officer.

I have one in my door, and to be honest the sound of someone trying to get their key in my lock would freak me out completely...but if I saw police officer clothing then I would still be scared and confused as to why there's a police officer at my door, but my instinct would also be to open the door to them and find out what's up.

I had one in my old house but never used it except to amuse an upset toddler. It had a little brass door on the inside of the door and little kids loving opening and closing it.

A man walked into my apartment one afternoon. He was visiting his daughter two doors down. She had similar patio furniture and he got confused. No one was hurt or killed. This is insane...defending her actions is insane, imo.

I almost walked into a stranger's house, the other day. I was visiting someone I'm on "open the door and come right in" terms with. I went up the wrong walkway, and didn't notice the different landscaping until I pulled on the door and found it locked.

However, saying that I understand how she could have made the initial mistake does not in any way, shape, or form constitute my excusing her shooting Mr. Jean.

Question:

Where was the stairwell or elevator that Guyger usually takes to reach her apartment, in relation to the two apartments (hers and Jean's)?

Their apartments are in exact same position on different floors.
Hers was on third, his was on forth.

So the stairwell (if she normally takes that as a means of reaching her apartment) has no floor numbers at the floor landings? And each apartment has no number either?

Sounds very confusing.

I think that there would have to be numbers on the doors.
The numbers are in lights on the walls. Doors have peepholes according to this article.
"Apartments in the sprawling complex have identical gray paint, silver peepholes and electric locks. Each apartment is identified by its number in lights on the wall beside the unit's tan door. Jean's had a distinctive red doormat in front of it Saturday."

From JJ's link.

"The state needs to "pay" for my son".

Seriously? What type of lawsuit and liability does the state have in regards to this situation? Yes, it is terrible that her son was murdered.

Is the Dallas PD responsible for every single action that an officer does while off duty? If an officer discharges a gun off duty, is the Dallas PD financially liable for the damages? Is the State of Texas financially responsible?

Yes, the woman who shot Bothem Shem Jean is responsible, and needs to pay for this action, she is responsible for her actions.

I don't see how the Dallas PD or State of Texas is responsible. Justice, yes.
