Found Alive TX - Brett Detamore, 38, Houston / Bear Creek Park, truck found torched, 21 June 2023

His office is in Greenway Plaza. I would be very skeptical of a random car jacking in either West U or Greenway.
West U for sure. Greenway has had a bit more random crime recently. For those unfamiliar, Lakewood church is in greenway plaza. My husband used to work in greenway plaza. Makes it likely he stopped by his office or attempted to.

Did he stop at Lakewood or is that where his phone last pinged?

ETA: Never mind found the answer. If someone was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I can see how meeting at Lakewood church would seem innocent enough.
I think his office might share a parking garage with Lakewood church. I know they are shared with an engineering company so I’m thinking maybe that’s why he was at Lakewood

I wonder if his cell phone records have generated any leads. So many questions!
I used to live in West U until recently. If someone jacked him from his driveway, the virtual cameras would have picked up their entry into the neighborhood. West University has its own government. It’s a unique neighborhood because it’s in a desirable area of houston but because it’s its own city technically, they have their own mayor and officials, their own police department and their own fire department. The virtual gate cameras were installed as a way to lower crime. Every license plate is scanned when you enter the neighborhood and if a license plate has a police report, it automatically reports it to the west U police and an officer is on it immediately. It’s a small neighborhood with a sizable police force so the police response is incredibly quick (one of the many reasons I loved living there). I have no doubt the police are checking the virtual gate cameras and looking up every vehicle that entered the neighborhood within a time frame and possible people on foot too.
He left the neighborhood and then his truck was found torched at bear creek. The suspects or suspect wouldn’t have gone in west u most likely. They probably knew about how secure the neighborhood is and wouldn’t want to increase their chance being caught by going on West U. I think there’s a good chance that something went on at Lakewood church. They were asking for footage at the church. There are only two reasons that they would want footage, they have suspicion that he met someone there or something like that (if you’re at Lakewood church at 4:30 something’s not right), the other reason they could’ve wanted footage is if there cameras could see what direction the car went, to see if he went straight to Bear Creek.

They live across the street from me and pretty much keep to themselves. I don’t think they own the house, but am not certain. West U is a pretty safe neighborhood. I am a light sleeper and believe I would have heard if there was an altercation in the driveway. Praying for a good outcome.

Why not? Greenway isn’t exactly the safest area and I could see criminals targeting westU

I agree with you. The homes are so close together there. There have been cases where cars have been stolen out of driveways (usually on the west side of West U) but in this case, he would have been accosted and noise would have followed. Overall, it's a very safe neighborhood.

Torched truck makes me think somebody he knows did something to him. Not a random carjacking. So maybe angry employee or business associate.

Plausible given his last location ping. I pray he's ok.

As mentioned in previous posts, you don’t <modsnip: profanity> around in West U. The cops are well funded and on their game there. I have lived in WU for over 25 years. Called cops twice, were at my house in 47 seconds. Three squad cars. Not an exaggeration. They also have auto license readers at every single entrance/exit and on every squad car. You can’t enter the neighborhood with outstanding warrants or an unpaid bar tab without being pulled over. That said, one of the cameras spotted him leaving around 4:30.

As to Greenway. While part of Houston policing, is a pretty safe area. Car jackers don’t take the car they just stole and torch it. There is a connection here. It will come out eventually

I agree. Given the tight timeline it seems a bit odd that a random carjacker would takeover the car, harm him, drive 20-30 min across town to a park and torch the vehicle all within less than 2 hours and completely disappear from the scene. The truck is an expensive model but also doesn't seem too bright to steal a bright yellow and black truck and risk driving it across multiple freeways to then end up torching it.

I’d be curious what they found inside the torched vehicle? Was there evidence of laptops? Cell? File boxes? Could he have been embezzling and torched the paperwork prior to discovery in the two lawsuits??
I knew he left at 4:30, but didn't know that his truck arrived at the park at 5:30. Was it in an earlier post? The truck was reported around 6:30? That is a lot of time unaccounted for.

One of his companies was pre-selling homes to be built in the future. This home in the Bellaire area was slated to be ready for occupancy by 2024. It was placed on the RE market on May 4, 2023 or it has spent 44 days on Zillow.

My hope why he may be alive is this: if he were harmed, wouldn't the suspect of left him in the truck as well if they were going to torch it?

I see that a lot in the Houston real estate market with different developers.

I worked in Greenway Plaza 2015-2018 and entered through the garage that the complex shares with Lakewood. I can visualize exactly where he was - but the question that interests me is, why? Why would a man drive to church before 5 AM? … to pray? … under stress? … thinking about options? … many possibilities.

Maybe needed traveling money?

<modsnip> Why at 4:30 in the am was he headed into the office is unknown. Maybe he had to stop by to pick up some things or work on something before heading out to job sites or other meetings later in the day. I wonder if that's his usual time to leave for the office.

Was it ever mentioned what time he normally leaves each day for work?

Money or revenge. Who stands to gain $$$ from him disappearing? Who had a beef with him if anyone?
