TX TX - Cameron Co/Mexico, WhtMale 20-29, UP4044, Wedding Ring "DIN-MONA 021189", Mar'89

"Din Mona" means "Your Mona" in swedish.
I couldn't find any "Mona married in Sweden that date, but maybe she was married in us or some other country. I think "Mona" i a commen name in other countries as well, maybe she is an immigrant from late 1800 or early 1900.
I mean her ancestors might have immigrated then.

That is a very good lead. Usually its just the other spouses name in the engraving. The date format however is American so i assume the wedding took place in the US. I guess we are either looking for a Swedish (origin) couple living in the US or at least one of the partners.

I'm wondering if he was found in the same ranch Mark Kilroy was found. The date is certainly very close. SPI/Matamoros was a very popular Spring Break spot. Especially for Austin area college students. Is there any way to search for Austin missing persons?

I would imagine might be his initials D.I.N and hers M.O.N-A, She might have dual surnames or chose to hyphenate her last names. They could have the N in common as his last name? Thoughts?

I just contacted the Cameron County Sheriff's department. Maybe they can provide additional information that could lead to an identification.

I think Mexico is a township in Cameron County, TX, (just barely) in the USA.

Dean Martin was born Dino Paul Crocetti, so I think that's a good chance.

I can not find any mention of such a township anywhere. I'm waiting to find out if the CC Sheriff's Dep knows anything about it, or if the guy really turned up across the border.

FYI, not only Swedish, but in Norwegian and Danish, as well. Mona is a common name, btw.

Cameron County is a collection of towns containing Brownsville, Harlingen, San Benito and several other small ones. The guy was most definitely found across the border in Matamoros. It's a large city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. I'm pretty sure this is a victim of the cult that was present in Matamoros in the late 1980's. The cultists were preying on drunk spring breakers and taking them back to their compound on the outskirts of Matamoros. This is where several bodies were found, they practiced Santeria and were sacrificing all these people so they could have good fortune with their drug trafficking.

But the wedding band says 2/11/89, after he went missing. :-/

Maybe he was due to get married then, but went missing before he could. Maybe that's why he wasn't actually wearing the ring.

It's a little odd to me that they left the ring. They stripped him down to his underwear. The ring would have been worth good money in Mexico. Maybe the ring was dropped by one of the killers? The date could be in the format of November 2nd, 1989.

I was in high school in Texas in the 80’s and I remember all of that! We all knew that Spring Break in South Padre you had to be super careful and stay away from the border. And absolutely no going over to Matamoros, but people did. I think that could be what happened here. But somebody must have been looking for him!

If he was married on February 11, 1989, he was very recently married. Someone MUST miss him!

One would think. Maybe a search for a missing, recently married couple or just a search for a recently married man, missing in 1989.

This guy fits hair color, age, went missing from CA in March of 1988, from San Francisco, middle name Dino.

Given the area he went missing from and the era, his style fits perfectly with gay men at the time.

But would a man’s ring say “Your Mona”? Wouldn’t it say “My Mona”?

That is strange. And why was it off his finger?

He was found in March 1989. November hadn't happened yet. I had the same thought at first, though!

Because the ring (the symbol of the unity of marriage) was given to him by Mona. The idea is that he doesn't buy the ring for himself; Mona gives it (and herself) to him when they marry. She will have the same ring, only with his name in it (like "Din Nils", "Din Lars", "Din Tore", etc) as a vow that he is equally hers.
