Yesterday I copied EA's Court schedule from the Collin County site.

004-80512-2015---------Rusch, Mark---------- 3/10/2015 (filed)----------- 03/27/2015 9:00 AM
Filed by Indictment------401st Judicial District Court------------------------- First Appearance

004-80513-2015---------All the information is same as the info above

004-88771-2014---------Rippel, David--------- 12/23/2014 (filed)------------ 04/02/2015 8:29 AM
Adult Misdemeanor------County Court at Law 4--------------------------------- Announcement

Announcement may mean the Court will announce the punishment based on a plea or details of a plea bargain are announced in Court.
The Judge might announce his decision on some aspect of the case (if not the final decision that closes the case).
Whatever the reason for the announcement is, it seems a judge has made a decision about the adult misdemeanor charge and will announce it in open court as required by law.
The announcement is scheduled for April 2, 2015.
EA's presence is required, I bet. Is this the stolen phone case?

There's another case number on EA's page (not marked "closed") ~

380-05057-2014------------Smith, Benjamin W.--------- 12/19/2014(filed)------------ (no info)
writ of habeas corpus - bond reduction - Ex Parte Gutierrez Arochi

Since the bond reduction was denied, I'm curious why there isn't a note indicating "closed".
It may have to do with a request for reimbursement or sloppy record keeping! :sigh::dunno:

I googled Announcement for court precedings. It says it's a time to announce to the court if you are ready to plea or if you are ready to set your case for trial.

First Appearance in Morris Kidnapping Case Set

A man accused of kidnapping a 23-year-old woman missing since last July could have a trial date Friday afternoon.

The court calls it a "first appearance," but 24-year-old Enrique Arochi will not actually appear in court. Instead, Judge Mark Rusch will hold a private meeting with Arochi's attorneys and the prosecution to discuss trial dates and exchange new documents and evidence discoveries.

In addition to kidnapping charges, Arochi was also indicted on a charge of sexual assault of a child. A 19-year-old woman claims she and Arochi had a 6-month relationship when she was 16.

Arochi remains in jail on $1 million bond.

Very well may be the case!
When I googled something similar (can't recall the exact words typed), the answers focused on the Judge.
Maybe the idea of the Judge making an announcement appeals to me more!

I wish, along with the case number, the site included a brief description for the charges.

Here's a good list of court related terms. Neither "announcement" or "last pass" are listed or defined though.

Was today's gathering a "pretrial conference"?
"A meeting of the judge and lawyers to plan the trial, to discuss which matters should be presented to the jury,
to review proposed evidence and witnesses, and to set a trial schedule.
Typically, the judge and the parties also discuss the possibility of settlement of the case."

EA's court records now shows:
04/29/2015 Announcement Last Pass (9:00 AM) (Judicial Officer Rusch, Mark)

Here's a link I found that may explain what that means:
http://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/what-does---announcement-last-pass--mean-in-mckinn-1523734.html

For the Adult Misdemeanor case? It is delayed? Answering - "no".
Oh, I see Rusch is listed with the other two case numbers (the indictments).

Please refer to the case number or topic/court, so as to avoid confusion. :)

Were today's proceedings private?

I guess the final decisions (charges and trial date) will be announced April 29th?
For both, SA and AK? Even though the two cases involve different victims? I'm confused.

These are all various formal "pre-trial" gatherings of the various parties, like you have guessed, in which any number of things may be decided, filed, discussed, scheduled, announced, and so on.

The theft case is scheduled for next Thurs Apr 2.

The Sexual Assault of a Child, and Aggravated Kidnapping, originally scheduled for today, have been postponed to Apr 29*. But no additional delay will be allowed for this step in the process (that's the meaning of the "Last Pass" designation).

In the interim, things may be (and typically are) being shared and/or discussed in a less formal manner, to some extent.

* This rescheduling is my understanding of the information posted on the Collin website. But, as noted below, BF has tweeted that they did meet today, so apparently I have misconstrued their website notes. I certainly was not there, so could not personally verify one way or the other. And, below, Mikayoyo said there was a live TV report that they met.

My apologies for any confusion.

Oh, thanks SteveS. To be clear, today's proceedings were cancelled?

Is the delay because there may be a plea deal coming??

It seems I'm wearing my dunce cap today - lol!

Wouldn't the judge and lawyers still have met today to discuss the possibilities?
I'm trying to understand the reason for last minute cancellations.

*ETA
"BF tweets "First appearance was held today.""

From the website, that's what was scheduled. It didn't look like they met to me from the way the schedule is listed there. (I certainly wasn't in Collin Co Ct today, so I have no way to verify by observation.)

Previously I posted explanations for rescheduling, but I deleted those explanations and answers, since they seemed to say one thing but BF was tweeting another.

Additionally, Mikayoyo posted below that she saw a TV report today, of a meeting, on live TV. So....

My apologies for any confusion, which was my fault. Sorry about that.

LOL

I saw on NBC this morning (no link, saw it on live TV) that the prosecution and defense were meeting in judge's chambers to discuss trial date. Enrique was not there and would have only been required to be there if he had posted bond. MOO
