David's family fears he might have run into trouble in a county that, in 1971, was being ruled by Sheriff James "Humpy" Parker. Parker and most of his deputies would later go to prison for abusing young men they captured on U.S. 59. A book called Terror on Highway 59 by Reverend Steve Sellers was written about Parker and his deputies.

What I don't understand is that this man betrayed someone? If so, was he wanted to execute revenge? if he disappeared in the woods then he went to meet the one who killed him maybe he threw him into the woods already dead... because this white dove guy wasn't from what I see

“He loved riding his motorcycle,” Diana said, despite having previously had some serious injuries. “He had two skull fractures and was in Corpus Hospital for some time, and then he’s had other accidents. He had broken his collarbone.”

''David’s motorcycle was recovered north of Pasadena along Highway 59 about two weeks after he was reported missing. “It runs from Mexico all the way up to Canada,” Det. MacGregor said. “Where his motorcycle was found, it’s maybe an hour from [Pasadena].”
Diana reached out to Dateline. “After I got your email, it was kind of like, I didn’t even know what to think. I didn’t want to get my hopes up. And I started crying and I -- and I said, ‘Thank you God,’” she said. “Every time someone finds out about David and wants to do something, I know God is -- God is responsible for that.”

If he were still alive today, David would be turning 77 in November. “He was 23, almost 24 when he disappeared,” Diana told Dateline. “I wasn’t that much older than him. But I was very protective of him.”

David was about 5’9” or 5’10” and weighed between 160-170 lbs. when he went missing.

<<Waggoner served four years in the United States Marines. He was unemployed at the time of his disappearance; he quit his last job several weeks before he went missing because it bored him. He was close to his parents, who lived nearby, and his sister, and his loved ones do not believe he would have left without warning. They also stated he was not depressed or suicidal in 1971.

Waggoner's parents are now deceased, but his sister is still searching for him. Authorities believe he may have been taken against his will.>>

Cases submitted to NamUs and all agencies involved.

Around October 1st, 1971, David Wayne Waggoner went missing from Pasadena, TX. Two weeks later, a "hunter found David's red Honda 350 motorcycle ... parked in the woods just off U.S. 59 in San Jacinto County, about 70 miles north of Houston, near Cold Springs and Shepard. His helmet was located on it."

Then, on March 5th, 1991, in Marietta, GA, "remains of decedent were found by a hunter on the south side of Barrett Parkway between I-75 and Barrett Lakes Drive, and across from Cobb Place Shopping Center. The remains were scattered over a large area and partially covered with leaf material and pine straw, and small sapling trees were growing through rib cage. The skull was located 6-10 feet from the body. Approximately 30 yards from the body was a pair of brown frame men's glasses and a red backpack which contained men's toilet items and razor blades."

The UID appears to have worn dark brown men's glasses, and long-sleeved, button-down dress shirt, cotton slacks/trousers, and gray "Bond Street" leather dress shoes. While Waggoner is said to have worn "dark-rimmed eyeglasses," and "dress shirts and slacks or blue jeans." The glasses in Waggoner's photo does not match the UID's glasses (assuming that they are the actual glasses that were found) but they are a similar style.

Given the UID's dress shirt size and estimated height, I estimated the man's weight to be about 170 to 200 pounds which aligns with Waggoner's weight. Both heights align, however, the UID is estimated to be between 40-50 years of age, and Waggoner was only 23 when he went missing but there's roughly 20 years from when he went missing and the UID was found.

While the forensic facial reconstruction is not considered an exact likeness, the two men look fairly similar.

It would be interesting to know the dates on the $1.68 in coins found with the UID..
