Thank you Kool Look for al of the great suggestions.
I do not/ can not/ and will absolutely not talk to our Stepfather. I haven't talked to him in well over a year and he will never again hear words from my mouth unless I am on a witness stand in a court room.
I'm not trying to sound harsh towards you-but I want everyone to know that that is not an option.
Bekki was able to see the records from CPS and we have talked and the only thing there is from the year before which we already knew about. I have contacted the schools, but they do not have records from that far back. Deanna spoke up about the abuse in the summer, with our Grandma.
I haven't talked to our Grandma. Things are very complicated with our relationship. She used to tell me things about our Stepdad that I didn't want to believe ( this was when I was 12) so I never talked to her again. Now I know there was wisdom in her words, and I want to talk to her about it but I want to wait until we can have a face to face talk. There are things we need to discuss that can't be said over the phone, imo.

Hi MissieMT!!
You've been in my thoughts so much...I've been out of touch here for awhile, but I'll try not to let it go so long again. :blushing: I just wanted to say how glad I am that Bekki was able to submit her DNA...I can't emphasize enough how impt. that is, and would still encourage you to submit yours. I know it is not easy to get together w/ Sgt. D, but when you can...don't think that just bec. Bekki did, it's done. It's always better to have more than one familial reference. And as of now, there is no backlog on Familial Refnc's., so they should be able to get her profile in the system right away!

warmly,

wow sloane-that's great news about there not being a backlog, I've been telling everyone (and myself) that it would probably take 6 months to a year just to get ehr in there, just so I wouldn't get impatient!

Sgt. Davis has emailed us twice in the past 2 days asking us questions-so I know he's working on the case right now. I'm still waiting for him to answer my question about the Ncmec though....

  • #545
Good to know he's putting time on it. I heard recently from someone who used to work in that general area in LE (but not in Killeen PD) that staff at KPD rarely stay past one year! I don't know if it is just the transitory nature of an "Army-city" or what other challenges are in LE there, but it was interesting to hear him say that, having worked there (nearby) himself for many years...so...kudos to Sgt. D!
Thinking of you, Missie,

Wow sloane, that is interesting about the Killeen PD. Kudos to Sgt. Davis for sticking around!

  • #547
Did you send that letter to the Mayor's office? I just wondered if Sgt. Davis was "getting busy" due to that inquiry. Glad to know he is doing something tho!

  • #548
I did send the letter-no reply thus far. I think Sgt.Davis said he had been there 6 or 7 years. I would not be surprised if what your friend said was true Sloane. Killeen, unfortunately, is not a nice place imo. I might be jaded, but there is SOOO much crime there-and its getting worse every year. Seems like no one respects LE there. There is a big problem with drugs, gangs, all that junk there. SadieMae might disagree though-she lives there and probably deals with the nicer side of it.

Hi Missie!
It's good of you to prepare yourself to wait, in general! Lol! This sort of ordeal that your family is going through DOES take so much patience. We can only imagine...But at least this small part of it (Bekki's DNA submission) should be right on track. Once they get her profile from her swab put into the Familial Refnc's. database, it will be checked right away against all the current UIDs in the databases that this particular lab has access to (which are many). If there is no "hit," then that means you are looking at two possibilities: One, Deanna is still alive somewhere, or two, (sorry to be so blunt, but you said blunt was okay), that Deanna has not been discovered yet, or if she has, her DNA has not been submitted.

May I say one more time how brave I think you are and how impressed I am at how maturely you are handling all of this!!
I hope our good thoughts for you help to give you strength.

warmly,

I have to agree with you. It's nothing like when I first came here...mainly because there was NOTHING here except a small Walmart and a rinky dink mall. Besides fast food places the only chain restaurants were Denny's and Red Lobster. I do deal with the nicer side, but I know quite a bit about the ugly in Killeen too. I rarely go north on hwy 190.

Thank you very much for the compliment Sloane-you are too kind. Sometimes I get SO frustrated and impatient-but I remind myself that it has been 17 years already so I shouldn't expect an answer over night!

SadieMae, how long have you been there? It has REALLY boomed there in the past ten years, I've been gone for 8.

Hi Missie-
Happy wknd.! How is your new job...since it is Sunday, that means you get paid more, right? :)

I was just on Deanna's myspace page, and I wanted to compliment you again on your choice of songs...I know that most recent one, "Alyssa Lies," and it brought tears to my eyes (once again!) when I was re-reading the info. on Deanna and hearing that song in the background. It is so sad, really. What I mean by "compliment" is that you know how to nail the emotions and put them into a format that others can share with you. I told you before how I communicate (and decompress) with music a LOT, and it seems you do as well.
Thank you for letting us in to what is such a sensitive and private turmoil your family is going through.

warmly,

Thank you Sloane-I haven't had much time to update her page lately. Really, I? haven't had much time for anything. If I'm not working I'm taking care of the household stuff-or spending as much time as possible with my kids and husband. My "part-time" job is more like 34 hours a week-I thought it would be 20-25, but we want the money to put up a fence and make it a good Christmas for the kids (they got jipped last year, lol)

I am sure Xmas is going to be great, Missie! (Buy American tho!! I hear the Chinese are trying to do us in! LOL)

Just wanted to stop in and say Hi. Sounds like work is keeping you busier than planned! It is good for you! You sound so perky!

Hugs~ SS~

Yes it has since I got here in '93. 2410 was probably still a 2 lane country road when you were here...now it's 5 lanes and subdivisions all down the road from the hwy to Stillhouse Lk road. There is also a Walgreens that just opened behind the 3 story bank building, which was the only thing there at one time...oh and the Harker Heights Walmart is next door to that building on the access road. You probably wouldn't recognize Stan Schleuter...new gas stations, pizza places, fast food, strip malls now. When I moved this way, there was only MIckey's & Dairy Queen...and it goes on all the way down to Clear Creek Rd with new subdivisions and stuff. I want to move the traffic is terrible!!!

I think Reese has been with KPD since at before '97 when I first met him. A lot of the new officers are former military...they loose a lot of officers because the pay sucks!! Not sure what it is now...but a few years ago a new officer started out at $22K/year. I have heard recruitment ads for new officers for "up to" $31K/year. That's not enough money for me to possibly get my butt shot at or put up with all the BS on the streets!! :D

It's been VERY quiet lately. I had some sciatic nerve problems which laid me up last week. I'm going to email Sgt.Davis and ask for an update..

  • #557
I got an email from Sgt. Davis. He has been talking to our Stepdad and her DNA has been ran through the databases-no matches though. He is doing a lot more, but can't really talk about it.

That is GOOD! That means there is a better chance that she is not UID. However, she still could be if her remains haven't been found, OR, her remains recovered but ME not doing DNA.

But, this is better than not, IMO. Better than HIT.

Thanks for the updates, you are continually in my thoughts and you know where I am if you need anything.

Thank you Christine. I too am kind of happy that there were no matches, but it is kind of frustrating at the same time, if that makes any sense..

Missie! I have a quick relief for that sciatic nerve thing. It is a passive exercise but helps me a lot. Just lie down on the floor and put your legs, calves touching on the seat of a chair. Put the chair very near the back of your thighs and have your thighs as straight in the air as possible. This flattens the back, opens the muscles that the sciatic nerve goes through and often gives immediate relief!
Still searching for Deanna. Still showcasing her here
