Getaway driver testifies at murder trial that woman masterminded plot to 'get rid' of Dallas dentist

"...She was guilty, Crystal Cortes admitted, but so was Brenda Delgado, the woman accused of masterminding the scheme to kill Kendra Hatcher.

"She was envious of Kendra," Cortes, 27, told the jury during the second day of Delgado's capital murder trial....

In exchange for a 35-year sentence, Cortes pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of murder and agreed to testify at the trials for Delgado and Kristopher Love.

Her testimony in Love's trial led to his conviction as the gunman in Hatcher's murder. Love, 36, was sentenced to death in October.

On Tuesday, Cortes echoed much of that testimony....

George Milner, Delgado's attorney, has raised doubts about Cortes' credibility. On Tuesday, he questioned why she waited until a month before Love's trial to finally tell her version of the truth.

Milner said Cortes lied multiple times to investigators, including when she tried to claim an innocent man was behind the shooting. Cortes said she lied for years because of her loyalty to Delgado....

Jurors heard other testimony Tuesday from the owner of the Jeep Cherokee that was used as the getaway vehicle and a witness who called 911 after hearing gunshots and seeing the SUV...

Delgado won't face the death penalty if convicted because of an agreement with Mexico for her extradition to Dallas after her arrest in Coahuila state in 2016.

Her trial continues Wednesday."

Yes! My exact thoughts too. Not placing blame on him or victim, but men (and women too) feel the need to keep in touch with ex's when they break-up and that creates a bad situation if one of the ex's still has feelings for the other! He kept her on his phone plan, kept Brenda's mother as his housekeeper, asked her for her mechanic friend's help. I have a feeling that he was still physically involved with Brenda after their break-up and that drove her to the edge when he saw how fast his relationship with Kendra was moving....he might not seem as innocent as he looks. I think he might have led Brenda on.

I would think if Brenda had just waited a little longer, Kendra would have figured out what a douche this guy was and broken up with him. Still on his phone plan? Still talking to her? Employing her mom!? A recent abortion? Oh dear, those aren't just tiny red flags, those are huge. I'm so sorry she had to die over a guy texting her murderer while she is still in the morgue. UGH. I NEVER thought I'd find myself feeling sorry for Brenda, yet here I am.

"...In court Wednesday morning prosecutors began tying up their case against Delgado.

Two analysts who work for the Dallas Police Department took the stand and testified about phone records of Delgado and two other people involved in the murder-for-hire plot -- Kristopher Love, the man who was convicted of shooting and killing Hatcher and Crystal Cortes, who admits to being the getaway car driver....

Wednesday, jurors heard testimony that Delgado did place a call to Cortes from that restaurant right around the time of the murder.

Another police officer testified his K9 made a "career find" sniffing out the gun police say was used in Hatcher's murder, it was found inside Love's ashtray...."

The detective is pretty mesmerizing to me. His technique is very effective IMO. How he goes quickly from different topics and timelines uncovering new information and inconsistencies. I'm sure at this point in his interview with Brenda (from Sept 4 that is being shown during trial today) he knows she's involved. It's amazing that she made it to Mexico. That was devastating in terms of losing death penalty option. MOO
