At the vigil, her brother mentioned an officer took time to drive around with him his first day to show him the area, since he wasn’t familiar. I found interesting. It also led me to believe LE were thinking more accident at that point. If they thought foul play was possible, would they have done that?

Can you explain it? Is it a rush to be first with the headliner? So much so that facts are not checked? Or LE is misquoted? I'm curious because it happens on here for ever case I participate in. TIA

Oh jeez. There are a lot of different reasons. Usually, in cases like this; it starts with a press release from LE via email. Some news agencies will respond back to the email with questions while others will call on the phone, and yet others will make personal contact by visiting the LE agency. Some bigger LE agencies have one particular officer who is strictly in charge of issuing news releases and answering questions to the press. Smaller agencies don't always have such a person. So they will refer you to whoever is handling the case. If that person isn't around, then you might talk to a higher up: like a sheriff/captain/chief who might give you different answers. Not to mention, even if you are making contact with the same officer(s); their answers can change from what he/she tells you, from what they told a different reporter 5-minutes prior. Then theres the journalist who writes the article who has their own ideas, and then it goes on and on from there. Not to mention that the news changes very quickly, so the real truth dosen't come out until it's all over.

Her mom said her phone was only used for texting. Wonder if it is a basic Tracfone like mine...you can only make calls and text, no internet etc...and wonder if that would make tracing it more difficult. She also said it had not been used...not sure how she knows. It is in the first post of this case.

If she does have any of those conditions, mentioning them on WS would be considered victim-shaming, even though it would be a hard, pertinent fact that might help locate her, and even though she is technically not a victim (according to the police) but a missing person. Others have made this point but I'll go ahead and be the broken record: having Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or a common mental illness that affects one's memory and mental state is not something to be ashamed of. It would explain much, especially in this case, but we are not allowed to discuss these crucial facts on WS due to the, in my opinion, silly, so-called "victim-shaming" policy. No, suspected to be Scott and Swearingin. Their photos are even in the article. So sad.

I believe going by what her mum has said she feels maybe she has had an accident (or god forbid foal play involved) and she is no longer thinks she's alive. Emily went missing on the 5th of Jan, this was published on the 10th it may have been recorded at an earlier date but released on the 5th.

I find it interesting,@ 1:25 when talking about Jared having anything to to with Emily's disappearance she slips into past tense then quickly corrects herself to present tense.

Then she slips back into past tense when talking about Emily and Jared loving their daughter. The past tense language only pops up when talking about Jared?

Now i know they have been "cleared" of being POI, i just find odd she would talk in this manor.

Which in itself, is strange. Why turn off the phone if she was headed home, to be home by 9:00? Which was when her mom was expecting her.

Yep. She would more likely turn her phone ON when she leaves instead of turning it off!

I don't know who has been cleared and anyone is a a POI or a "suspect." And even if there is any need for suspects (if they think she had an accident or left on her own). I've read several times a statement from LE stating "no one has been cleared at this time...but no foul play is suspected". These two thoughts are contradictory. It would be nice to have an update, a clearer message and perhaps some thoughts from officials.

You're right. I do remember reading that. At the time, I wasn't sure whether that meant by choice or because of the phone. Older flip phones are difficult to text with...take more energy, is what I mean. Even a Smart phone can be limits to texting only by choice. Maybe she had a plan with limited data and only used it for emergencies. If so, this would have been an emergency, if she were able to reach her phone and use it. Another unclear piece of the puzzle.

In the first post she was talking about the phone and bank card hadn’t been used after she went missing.

If it does turn out that Emily’s phone doesn’t have cellular service, wouldn’t it make it difficult (or likely impossible, IMO) to ping it, as the phone wouldn’t be connecting to towers?

They would be able to figure out fairly easily which WiFi network her phone was connected to at any certain point in time, however, IMO.

It appears as if either she CAN'T use her phone...or she WON'T use her phone.

Choosing not to would suggest she is missing by choice.

However, if she has been harmed (accident, victim of crime) then not able to use.

The fact that there has been NO cell phone activity since January 5 is a serious piece of info for consideration. IMO

Thanks, I think my post was worded poorly. I was referring to the quote: “We are aware of the developments in Texas regarding another missing person’s case”.... you’re right, they meant Jenna and Michael but the word “another” threw me off initially.

Does this mean Emily's phone was used before she left her mom's around 5 pm or did she last use it at the co-worker's home before she left there at 8.30/9.00?
