I forgot who, but someone who used to live in this area said that this road is difficult to turn around on in daylight, let alone in the dark. I took this as a possible explanation why she traveled so far on it and I would guess you are right that she would be going slow in this case.

The getting out of her car before the waters got so high she couldn't open the door is perplexing. If innocent reason, could she have stopped the car as soon as she saw she was in .5-1 foot of water and tried to get out knowing from Kentucky how dangerous water like this could be? It sounds like if it was more than that amount of water, she wouldn't be able to get out. Any other innocent explanation someone can come up with?
Thank You! That explains a lot more to me as well! I had not read about difficulty in turning around.
I’m wondering if she climbed out the window and was trying to get onto roof? She could have rolled it down, I think ... the water was freezing, I’m sure. As others have stated hypothermia gets you pretty quick.
I’ve tried getting onto the roof after going out the window ... and it’s NOT easy even if you don’t feel threatened and highly anxious of drowning. I couldn’t do it.
It’s the only innocent explanation I can come up with ... while waiting on the official autopsy results.

You have to understand the power of fast moving water, especially THAT water THAT night. It would be next to impossible, as Commander Wade said, for her to have opened that door would have been next to impossible, over 1,000 like minded situation's, not a single time did he find the body/bodies outside of the auto. I am not so sure that Shaquille O'Neil could have opened that door on that car in those conditions. Raging water's in that particular creek are unforgiving and that car would have been swept away like a paper cup the moment it hit the water. I know Jared, as my wife work's with him in her Dept., unfortunately, I never met Emily, my wife has a few time's, so I get update's from people. Emily was a really good person, as is Jared & a great son to his mother & father to his two daughter's, that HE raised. HEARTBREAKING is an understatement!
Very interesting comments considering the things you said when this thread first opened up ...
Comments that were deleted by Admin. But maybe I’m mistaken and it wasn’t you?

I don’t recall weather (temps) that day/ evening. If warm or if she was warm and needed air or even to see the water level as she started to enter it, her window may have already been open.

Or did the car have a moon roof that she could have escaped from?

If any window or roof opening were open, this could explain the car still being missing, as it could have filled with water and sunk.

All speculation obviously.

Hmm. His account isn’t verified but Fox 4 did retweet that tweet, so I’m assuming that is the real account of a reporter. I hate when big info like this is released in a tweet or FB message no matter the source. I don’t think anyone will take it seriously.

The roads were dry on Saturday night, January 5th. The road narrows by the bridge and descends down to the creek, so a driver has to slow down here. It is unlikely she has been on this road before so would probably use a degree of caution in general.

Possibly she approached the bridge (and creek) slowly, thinking the water was not deep, and the engine failed as the car nosed down in creek water. She then exited the car to walk out for help and was swept away by the current.

A roof window?...seems possible.

Discussion of the Emily Wade situation on Nancy Grace: Missing Texas Mom Emily Wade Found In Flooded Creek, But Questions Remain Crime Stories With Nancy Grace podcast

Nancy Grace has Toney Wade from Cajun Coast Search and Rescue as one of her guests. Toney Wade is the leader of the team that found Emily's body.

The creek is high today and they confirm it was high on the night Emily left the co-worker's house. Toney Wade said this was an odd route for Emily to have taken home, much longer and more circuitous than other routes. Toney Wade said this route would have required Emily to "make a huge circle to get back home." The road Emily was on was a gravel road, not even paved, in the middle of corn and cotton fields with very limited lighting.

Toney Wade said it was possible that Emily ended up outside of her car, but it was definitely not typical, that the body is almost always in the car if a car has been swept away by flood waters. Toney said there is a rumor there is a sonar hit on the car in the creek, but the car has not been confirmed found yet.

Biggest questions may be answered by medical examiner. Was her window opened? Was she unbelted? Does she have impact-related injuries?

I haven't seen a picture that shows the roof of the car Emily was driving, a 2012 Nissan Altima with Kentucky license plates. Emily was borrowing her mom's car that night.

Was there one in the pictures of her car on missing poster?
Oh, sorry. Don't know.
Someone else mentioned that perhaps when she first got in trouble, she exited the car. I guess there might be innocent explanations after all

She may have been able to get out of her car if she drove it into floodwaters, but Toney Wade, the search and rescue director, said if her car went into the water quickly, the electric system would short out. In that case, she wouldn't be able to roll down her window. She might have gotten out of the window if the window was already rolled down. There has been no confirmation of whether it was raining while Emily was driving. If it was raining, it's much less likely Emily would have her window down. As soon as the car would enter the water, it would be almost impossible to open the door due to pressure from the water outside the car.

Another oddity: This area had been searched carefully a couple of times since Emily went missing. The damns had been closed that surround this area and the water level dropped a week ago, but Emily's body wasn't found after that was done. Emily's body was found Monday evening. Toney Wade, Cajun search and rescue director, said it's possible Emily's body may have been further upstream, lodged on something, and then broke free. Toney Wade said something doesn't seem right to him. He doesn't think Emily was there prior to being found on Monday.

When I was researching the water flow (check out the USACE websites I linked above---lots of information), I noticed that they were letting a little bit of water out around the time she went missing. Then they didn't release much at all, then they release a large quantity of water. I had the same thought---that maybe her body was dislodged later by the larger release of water.

It also occurred to me that maybe she made it to shore alive downstream from the bridge, but was injured, and didn't survive in the elements.

Attached are bridge still images from PommyMommy's link above:

Police On Body Found In Creek Bed Being Missing Ennis Mother Emily Wade: ‘We’re Confident It’s Her’

Video taken today or yesterday showing the current water level. Stunningly high water over the submerged bridge. There is no turbulence in the bridge location because the bridge is so far underwater. Not sure what the water height was on Jan. 5th other that is was high and over the road in this location, as I understand.

A car driving into the water would be immediately floating in the running water, downstream. No impact with anything. There also would be no sitting in 1-2 feet of water on the bridge IMO, where a door can be opened. A third image pin notes the location of the body 600 yards downstream, as was referenced in the video. The Ensign Road bridge is on the left side of the image, and is of course upstream of the noted location.

Could Emily swim competently?

So the water would have been high on her way out to the coworkers house?
(And looks to be closer to Emhouse not Ennis)

This bridge is not on the way from her house to the co-worker's house; I would assume she would have gone the correct way the first time, which is a pretty straight shot from Ennis without water issues.

Yes, the bridge is closer to Emhouse than Ennis. She would have to have to have forgotten the way back home, and been lost to drive her car here. It is probable. But probable isn't 100% so waiting on more information.

I think she got terribly lost on her way home and with no phone with GPS she had no idea where she was going!

These pictures are shocking to me, especially the one with the man standing by the water. It is crazy to see how the road looks like it just goes straight down into the water.
