Amen.

I am not sure if I've properly expressed my sympathies toward them, as I've been plenty angry about the circumstances and have been too busy complaining about Coe and Abigail.

Thank you, fhc.

Emma, here's to a Thanksgiving without pain and fear. God Bless those who were left behind...

Emma should have been with her 2 older sisters today, telling Santa what she would like for Christmas. Because of her mother, abigail young and her mother's perverted boyfriend, lucas coe that isn't possible. Emma will never again celebrate Christmas on Earth. What a shame. She can only live on in fond memories saved close in the hearts of those that truly loved her.

I hope "mother" and the monster, she allowed into Emma's life, pay the ultimate punishment in this. I know Texas is tough on crime, but this case brings me back to Riley S. (Baby Grace). Her murderers got off way too light, IMO and I will never understand why.

I hope and pray that Texas puts these two where they will never have the ability to hurt another child again.

I can't believe that this little girl wasn't removed from the home when it was discovered that she had herpes. Where in the world did Protective Services think she got them? Why is it that they are always going to change their way of doing things after the child is dead!!!!! It just doesn't make sense.

I hope the mom is also charged with murder. She is just as guilty as he is. Why do all of these single women put the men they pick up before their kids? Are they that desperate to have a man!

I wonder what that little girl did that they thought was so bad that she deserved to be beat to death. And when was this guy having sex with this little girl...when her mother was right there no doubt. What a pair of sickening people. I hope we see some Texas justice in this case as it deserves the harshest punishment possible.

Oh Bobbi - I agree with you.

And Believe - I too am absolutely sickened that this 🤬🤬🤬 female could blame the transmission of the herpes on her daughter. Where the heck did she think the 4 year old acquired herpes? Why didn't she report that her child had herpes?

It just makes me sick to my stomach. That poor child. I hope the law is harsh for these POSs.

I have seen conflicting reports that Mom has it as well. So I would say she knew absolutely where her baby picked it up....and it was NOT from a toilet seat share by the perp.

Still waiting to hear that there is going to be any kind of justice for this girl at all and that her mother will be taking her fair share of the blame.

Hope we don't have to wait too long for justice here. That poor little girl. Those &**&@ who did this to her.

Review: CPS missed warning signs
Investigation shows family history of abuse missed in half of cases

Caseworkers for Texas Child Protective Services have regularly missed warning signs that Houston-area children were in danger, including failing to thoroughly investigate a family's previous history of abuse or neglect, according to a report released on Monday.

“In only half the cases, risk and safety were evaluated appropriately,” the report's investigators — a review team from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in Austin — concluded. “Investigative caseworkers are reviewing and utilizing CPS history in only about half of the cases.”

The report also noted that child abuse cases in this region were passed too quickly from investigators to Family-Based Safety Services caseworkers — those assigned to help the family eliminate risk of abuse — leaving “the child potentially unsafe.”

Judge removed in child's death case

Dec. 17, 2009, 8:20PM

The two adults charged in the abuse death of Spring toddler Emma Thompson will get a new judge after the current one was removed from the case on Monday because of questions about her ability to be fair.

Regional Administrative Judge Olen Underwood granted a defense attorney motion to recuse Judge Mary Lou Keel of the 232nd district court after reviewing a series of events involving the bond, then the revoking of that bond, for defendant Lucas Coe.

Coe, and his girlfriend Abigail Young, 34, have been charged in the June 23 death of Young's 4-year-old daughter, Emma Thompson, who died upon arrival at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital. The little girl had signs of sexual abuse, 80 bruises and a skull fracture, authorities have said.

On Sept. 10, Keel approved a $100,000 bond for Coe. Two days later, Coe posted the bond and was released.

The next day, a Sunday, Keel's court coordinator contacted prosecutors and Coe's defense attorney Bert Steinmann, asking them to be in court on Monday at 8 a.m. because Keel wanted to place some additional conditions on the bond.

The Sunday call came following a flood of faxes and e-mails to the judge's office by those who disagreed with her ruling to allow Coe's tentative release.

Keel ordered that Coe submit to a urine drug test and when he said he couldn't urinate on demand for testers, she had his bond revoked.

Underwood reviewed the series of events and granted the recusal request from Steinmann.

“What he said was recusable was the irregular procedures she followed when she notified the parties on a Sunday of an 8 a.m. Monday hearing,” Steinmann said. “Judge Underwood recused Judge Keel to avoid any appearance of partiality and unfairness.”

Steinmann said his client is innocent of Emma's assault and death.

Donna Hawkins, spokeswoman for Harris County District Attorney's office confirmed Underwood's actions and said both Coe and Young will be tried by another judge. <snipped>

Soooooooooo, if the accused and defense atty don't like the judge....they get a new one. Does anyone suspect the Coe family wants poor pathetic Luke home for Christmas? We know where Emma's body will be for Christmas. Coe should never be allowed to post bail. He is dangerous to everybody in society, especially children. jmo

Oh, I think it is fair that the judge was recused. Confidence in her was shaken when she did the turn around on the bond issue-it is hard not to draw a line to the beating she was taking from her original position.

I want this man tried once and to stay in jail for the rest of his life. I would rather his trial be squeaky clean than to give him a chance at appeal and to walk the streets again. JMO.

Don't be surprised if the new judge sets bail real soon. With the Christmas season distracting everyone from Coe's case and Emma's murder, it is not uncommon for things to happen below the radar. I, for one, do not want this monster out of jail during the Christmas holidays, especially, when children are out of school.

Agree with you about one trial and never on the streets again.

He is a repeat offender while out on bail. I recently learned from a case in MA that bail is not supposed to be a deterrent or to create detention situations...bail is set to encourage the defendant to return to his court dates.

So-if the legal system will not act in the best interest of the general public, then some kind of watch dog group or the media should be hot on the guys tail looking for a violation. Because he will have one. It is what he does. This dude beats up on babies. He has done it over and over and over again. He has not been given any incentive to stop.

Is there a way to find out what judge has been assigned now?
