Here at the UMC in Lubbock where they have confirmed a victim of the Midland/Odessa shooting was flown here around 6 o’clock. Is the only victim transported to Lubbock. Talking to a hospital spokesperson momentarily

• Just after 3:15 p.m., DPS troopers tried to stop a gold Honda.
• When the trooper approached the vehicle, he was shot by the man inside, who was armed with a rifle.
• The suspect got away and shot someone on I-20, then continued on the East Loop, and shot multiple people.
• At some point, the suspect stole a USPS mail truck.
• The suspect then drove near Cinergy - a local movie theater.
• Multiple law enforcement agencies engaged in a gun battle with the suspect, killing him.

Shooter was armed with a rifle, DPS says

The suspect in Saturday's West Texas shooting was armed with a rifle, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Elizabeth Carter.

According to Carter, the DPS trooper who was shot is in serious but stable condition. The Midland and Odessa police officers who were shot are also in stable condition at the hospital.

Medical Center Health System CEO Russell Tippin said as many as 13 victims were being treated at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. One of those patients has died, he said.

Two patients have been released, two others are in serious condition and seven are in critical condition, meaning they are out of surgery, he said.

A patient under the age of two was transferred to another hospital for treatment, he said.

He said the hospital will remain on lockdown for the safety of patients and staff.

This one seems to be a little different, on account of the fact that it occurred following a traffic stop.

That’s why I’m more curious about his background than usual.

Of those 13 patients, one person died and seven remain in critical condition. Most of those seven people had been in and out of surgery. Two other patients were in serious condition and one patient under the age of two was transferred to another hospital.

An online fundraiser started by a woman who said she knows the baby’s family, identified the infant included a message from her mother that said: “She is being flown to Lubbock while we drive. Not getting to fly with her is beyond painful. Anderson is 17 months old, has shrapnel in her right chest, which thank God is superficial. She has a hole through her bottom lip and tongue and her front teeth were knocked out. She is alive.”

They cited a Texas news station, but their own reporting doesn’t seem to jibe with what the Sun says they said.

I think they used incorrect information from previous reports that indicated there were multiple gunman.

This is the type of crime that is generally committed by a lone person, and everything we have seen thus far, seems to indicate that being the case here.

An official tells us authorities believe they have positively identified the person responsible for today’s shootings in West Texas. Local authorities are currently seeking court authorization to search an address associated with the identified shooter.

I was thinking the rampage may have started at a residence as a personal conflict, and then he shot the trooper who pulled him over because he knew LE would be looking for him. But, that's just speculation on my part; am curious to find out what this was all about. Just so sad some people resort to this.

I could see that.

I think he was pulled over because he had done something, and law enforcement was looking for him.

I think the idea that he was pulled over because he wanted to get pulled over, is far less likely.

I think he was reacting, and not laying some sort of trap.
