From everything I've read, a phone will not ping if it is turned off. It only pings when the phone is on and ready to take or receive calls/texts and the phone then constantly searches out towers for this purpose. If someone can find something that says it will still ping when it is turned off please direct me to it because I've not been able to find anything.

In the affidavit it says that concerning SA's phone - it states "no phone usage".

Interesting wording. It doesn't state "no pings" or "the phone did not ping for..."

No usage. Usage to me says that there were no calls made or received and no texts sent or received. So, I'm wondering if there really weren't pings captured during that "no phone usage" time. KWIM?

I don't know much about cell phones, but mine (and most from what I understand) has a GPS chip in it that shows where the phone is at all times.
Both of my cells have this feature and they are not fancy phones.
One is a very simple one from T-mobile and the other one is a Samsung on Verizon through StraightTalk.
This feature can be turned on and off. Since I don't plan on committing any crimes and would like to be found if missing, I leave the GPS on.
Did BD not leave her cell w/Hailey when she went to work?

There is a whole thread in Caylee's forum about nothing but pings..It was discussed at GREAT length, lol! Maybe I'm misremembering though!

Well, we know that they were interested in true crimes. I have a feeling that one or both may have learned much the same way we have. Unfortunately, many criminals most likely do! It's a double edged sword...

Beau Berman: What is his attitude like now? Is he reclusive because there are so many fingers pointing at him?

Billie Jean Dunn: "Not with me. He wanted to talk to some media. He has talked to law enforcement since and been able to explain his story again. Mostly he just tells me to try to keep that optimism and he's still praying and his family is still praying. He misses us, he loves us".

IIRC from Caylee's case..a phone will ping unless the battery is removed..cutting it off doesn't stop the pinging..

That is what I thought....which is why the wording sounding like they bracketed actual phone calls sounds odd. I wonder if they had routing information for the calls when they wrote up the affidavit, but not the complete ping history for the phones at that time.
