I also live really close. Depending on coming or going 11 minutes or 15 minutes away. About 4 or 5 miles away if direct straight line. LOTS of woods in between. My building at this complex had a break in a few months ago. The family thankfully was not home. They took all the valuables and no one at all in our building heard a thing, even though they broke the sliding patio door to get in! This was at night when I am awake (husband works nights). The police said it was transients living in the woods.

The google reviews for this complex say there are homeless living behind Summer Valley too. I don't know, a random abduction in the middle of the day at an apartment complex? I would think that would be rare in this particular case. Especially since I see a security gate at the entrance and have seen no mentions of it not working in the reviews.

I agree that is very weird. School is 3 miles away - she's not going to walk that with a 2 week old baby. So obviously, the kid was stranded. Presumably, since mom wasn't working, she was picking him up at 2:30-3. But even if they decided to keep the older child in afterschool care, surely the fact that the place had to call to say he hadn't been picked up is suspicious.

Here's what I find odd. If he comes home at 2, and is wondering why the car is still here and his wife and newborn are gone, then wouldn't he check with the school, at 2:45, to see if his wife was there to pick up their son? Or to see if she had been around?

Maybe she was volunteering at the book fair and fogot to tell him. I'd think he'd check the school as a potential location for his missing family. But it's not until 6 pm that he hears from them?

Surprised he didn't call the school himself before then. IF he was wondering where his family was...

I’m still waiting for confirmation on the 2 and 6 thing, thinking there may be some reporting errors, we will see.

I will say though, ftr, as one who spends A LOT of time with homeless people on the streets, that drugs and mental illness are prevalent in these populations, moo.

I can go either way on this one because I can picture my own husband coming home and maybe seeing my things (maybe, not) and going into the media room, thinking that I was at the neighbor's house or something, not giving it a second thought until he received a call from the school, jolting him back to reality.

That being said, there aren't any holes in our walls and no prior calls to police about anything, to include DV.

Disclosure: We are seniors now. So, it may have been different if the kids were younger.

If anything, the homeless people could be a valuable resource for LE in this case. If they have been there for a while, they may be well aware of the comings and goings of the apartment residents.

Too much not adding up with the fiance. His narrative makes zero sense. A woman having given birth 2 weeks ago and you come home & both she & the baby are gone & you do nothing until after the school calls to tell your son hasn't been picked up?

More observations that HB appeared to be on foot since her car was at home along with all the baby things -- assuming he's referring to a diaper bag, bottle, etc. Not likely mom with 2 week old would leave baby items behind even if taking the infant out for a short errand.

Earlier reports had me thinking that calling police at 6 pm not suspicious if school called after 3 pm and he traveled 6 miles round trip on to find HB was still not home.

Then I read that the door was found wide open (in December) when SC arrived home from work! That's a game-changer to me. I can imagine investigators asking SC how many times he's arrived home to find their door wide open.

I agree that the vast majority of homeless people are just trying to get by and would have no reason to abduct a mom and her baby.

But there are also some dangerous vagrants, who are hiding out from warrants, and have violent criminal histories, that tend to infiltrate homeless encampments. They need to stay off the grid and they will occasionally strike, if given the opportunity. JMO
