Apparently, she was from Forest Lake, MN, and attended Forest View Elementary School / Forest Lake Middle or High School
(she doesn't appear on any yearbook tho)
Is there any source cite for that? Forest Lake would make sense but LE has specifically said Stillwater - Forest Lake schools would be significantly further away for her to be attending if she was indeed living in Stillwater.

From her childhood friend's Facebook, at least. May not be a verified source, but I'd take it since it's a direct stating

I'm just skeptical because I've seen some really horrific things involving people claiming they were "friends" and selfishly inserted themselves into grieving families' affairs when they actually had no involvement or relationship. If there has been direct, prior contact on this person's social media with Sherri's siblings, I would add a little more weight to it.

Is it possible that they marked her as missing from Stillwater because she seems to have disappeared from the courthouse (I'm assuming Washington County courthouse) in Stillwater, but she was actually from Forest Lake?

I feel there is a long haul trucker or two involved here. And I don't know that I necessarily believe that she was seen at the Hitchin' Post? Maybe someone that looked similar? I don't know.

I wonder if it's possible she was from/attended school in Forest Lake, but was taken away from her family and placed in Stillwater?

I hate to say this, but could it be that she was being pimped? Maybe she was involved in prostitution, perhaps explaining the painted toenails and fashion forward outfit. :(

Definitely possible IMO. I tend to lean against it, but it definitely could have happened, especially since it seems she knew a lot of shady kids from school.

For that reason I kept going to her FB, and found that some other "classmates" were grieving/remembering her, all from Forest Lake Senior High. One commented that she attended Forest View Elementary. So, since it's more than one person (mostly people who appear at FLSH yearbooks) I think it might be real

That would make sense, but would assume LE said Stillwater because that was where the family was from? It doesn't make much sense to me for them to label someone as being from one town, especially one of that size, when they actually lived elsewhere.

If anyone can possibly pull SAJH yearbooks from around that time that may be our answer.

In an unrelated case, 15 yo Emily Garcia was a habitual runaway..(She was found with gang tatoos on her hand) She had been in juvenile detention. She seemed to have quite a network and gang affiliation.

She was murdered in 1993. However, she was missing and an UID for one year.

Anyway, I don't know when the mom contacted all of these people. I'm pretty sure there was no PI involved. Here is a list of people who Emily's mom contacted. My hunch is the PI in Sherri's case probably made some inroads in MN.

PG11 (Link looks funny. It's an 90's style website created by Emily's aunt)

This only partial list from the list. I removed last names.
The following names are friends of Emily's who are in different gangs in San Antonio, TX at the time of Emily's disappearance.

Roy

Member of the gang Latin Kings-Friend of Emily's

Rudy

Member of the gang Latin Kings-Friend of Emily's

Mickey

Member of the gang Latin Kings-Friend of Emily's

David

Member of the gang The Bloods-Friend of Emily's

Angel(also known as Ace)

Member of the gang Latin Kings-Friend of Emily's

James(also known as +++++James)

Member of the gang 357 Crips-Friend of Emily's

Greg also known as Shotgun)

Member of the gang 357 Crips

Emily said that this was the father of the baby she was carrying at the time she was murdered.

Juan C.

Member of the gang The Bloods-Friend of Emily's

Marvin (also known as Rome)

Not sure how Emily knew him.

In Sept 2021, they arrested an associate of Emily for her murder. Thomas Ray Galindo was not on this list. However, the list goes to show the tentacles that young teens have.

It would be very possible, especially if she were placed at an actual juvenile detention center. I work for a very small county in NY, and if a kid is remanded to detention, the nearest one is in another county 45 minutes away from the county seat. When I was growing up in the late 70s/early 80s, a family that lived across the field from us were a foster home that only took juvenile delinquents, and those kids came from all over the county, not just our town. I would imagine most states had similar foster care systems at that time. If Forest Lake didn't have a detention facility or placement setting for juveniles then they would have to utilize one in a different location.

I’m wondering if the waitress may have confused Sherri with another girl who looked similar to her.

Just looked at what I believe to be the post you are referencing - looks like she could've gone to FV for elementary and moved to Stillwater later on. Confirmed that some of the people know the brother and are FB friends so this looks like it is real.

It looks like Stillwater and Forest Lake have about the same population now, but Stillwater had about 12k people in 1980 and Forest Lake had about 5k people then. Stillwater is also the county seat, and I'm assuming the Washington County's courthouse is/was there, so it makes sense to me that they would say she disappeared from Stillwater even if she was from Forest Lake if she was last seen at the county courthouse (and may have also been living there at the time because of more resources for social services in the larger town).

Another thing to remember: most teens in the 70s and 80s were "older" at 13, 14, 15, etc. than similar aged teens in the 90s, in the 00s, the 10s, and now.

I wouldn't assume Sherri had no income. In addition to the theory mentioned about her possibly staying with other young people--which I think seems plausible--she might have also worked. She could have had a fake ID, she could have done casual labor of some sort. Cleaning, waiting tables, fast food, that kind of thing.

Such a vibrant young girl. Her face looks so full of life and fun. I am so sorry for her surviving family and hope they learn more about what happened.

Is there anyway to find the records of people who were in the prison in Texas that Sherri (potentially, if eyewitness account was correct) was trying to get to?

Some jobs would not even require a fake id...some still don't and pay cash. Also life was cheap back then. When I was in college, when we owed rent, we would have a keg party. We charged a buck admission and we were set for a few months. A few months later: another keg party and we were good to go.
Sherri could have worked for cash for a few days and would be set for an entire month.

Authorities have that info afaik because they interviewed everyone at the prison farm.

How did I forget about people doing that! Yes, there is still an informal economy, absolutely, and if she was moving around, staying on couches that kind of thing, she *really* wouldn't need much.

Some additional options related to the prison may include someone that had been recently released that she was planning to meet up with, or someone that worked at the prison.
