I had thought it was "Sherry" until the Sheriff stated in the presser that it was spelled "Sherri". That was one of a couple things he got incorrect in the presser - the other being her hometown. She lived in Forest Lake, and the facility was in Stillwater. The Sheriff stated that she was "from" Stillwater.

Wait, now I'm more confused. So her name WAS spelled Sherry and not Sherri?

I see it both ways. Her brother and the obituary spell it "Sherry". Elsewhere, it is "Sherri".

And my gosh...eighth grade, with a best friend who was a seventh grader? :(

I'm going to change some of what I put out there earlier. I think adults may have been involved all along. Hopefully the two sisters have been found and interviewed.

Yeah, Sherri or Sherry isnt Cathy but there is a case where someone found a girl who name was possibly Cathy wearing some of the same clothes described by the kids staying at the hotel with her.
CA - CA - Quartz Hill, WhtFem UP4348, 17-23, in creek bed, possible name Cathy, Mar'81

Kathy fits the Doe's description very well, except for being a few years younger than the Doe's age range. IMO, it is possible it is her. Did the kids describe her clothes? I didn't remember that. She would probably have changed out of them by the time she got to LA if it was her.

OK, that's confusing. Since her brother spelled it Sherry, I guess we'll just go with that?

Might be a good hit to re-discover the I-45 Forum, especially these posts:

COD: Beating or Blunt Force Trauma
COD: Strangulation

Victims found with beating or blunt force trauma/strangulation as their cause of death alongside I-45. Our girl is listed on the second post
YES! Thank you for posting this. There are a couple I found while researching this case and others that I need to log in here.

This was the case with Mom's name as well (first and maiden name). I would go with "Sherry" at this point if that is what is coming from her brother.

I agree "Kathy" is not "Sherry/Sherri" but there something disturbing about the story of visiting the same prison. I fear "Kathy" may have met a similar demise. I would appreciate any tips on finding information about Sherri Ann Jarvis's parents. Would a Family Search help. Some posts have dropped hints of info there was a biological father she may have been searching out.

Green Bay is the complete opposite direction of where Sherri's bio dad MLB would have been. I did some digging on both Ancestry and public records databases and I highly doubt that bio dad would've left Bayfield county at that point in time. I get where that theory might have come into play but SJ Sr and KZ would've either just gotten divorced or were in the process of a divorce... that may have been more of a factor than bio dad IMO.

As an aside, I'm happy to be able to google "Walker County Jane Doe" and instantly see beautiful Sherry smiling and happy in life, rather than see her pained swollen face on the autopsy table. Now, what we need is for her to get JUSTICE. I am deeply hopeful that Det. Bean's trip provides more insight.

Wasn’t Kathy wanting to visit the Sugar Land prison, not Ellis?

Here's a question, and I apologize if it's been raised already: how long would it have taken for someone to be sentenced to time at Ellis? Do people go directly from arrest to detainment in prison instead of a local facility? Here in NY, before the whole bail reform thing, people would sit in a county/city jail setting (unless they could bail out) until they were found guilty at trial and sentenced, and that could be a fair stretch of time, even pre-covid. People aren't usually held in an actual prison setting until they have been convicted and sentenced to prison time vs. jail time. Unless back then in TX people were quickly sentenced and moved to Ellis, wouldn't they have been in a county/city lockup somewhere for at least a few months while their case went to trial? Could she have met someone on the outside who was in turn arrested/detained/convicted/sentenced in such a short period of time?

One thing we do not know, is how much older the males involved in criminal activity they were though. One of my sisters went through some stuff when she was 14, and had a summer where she basically refused to come home. Her boyfriend's mom at the time was contributing to it, long story, but things happen. Middle class family, she ran track, was an honor student, just decided she was in love with a guy a few years older who was mixed up in stuff. I believe the boyfriend was 16, but I'm sure he associated with people in their 20s, so by default, so did she. His mother absolutely associated with criminal elements. My point is just to demonstrate how easily this could happen. All it would take is one link, and bam.

In Tx offenders will spend time in county jail before their trial. If they are convicted they will be moved to a unit to what is called a classification unit and that is where they assign prisoners to facilities based on the classification of their crime.

Yes, Sherry's timeline is generally too short to fit arrest, pretrial, trial and sentencing in a major felony case.
However, it is possible she met someone...but if out on bond, they would still need a trial and if found guilty, they are often in jail waiting sentencing.

In Texas, they are in local jails until sentencing

Regarding the prison visit:
What if the person see was going to see wasn't expecting her and didn't even know her, but was someone on the inside who was still "connected"?

I wondered something similar. She must've stayed with others for some length of time, whether moving around or being largely in one place. At some point a friend/associate says, for example, 'hey if you ever get into trouble or need help, contact my brother, he works at the Ellis Prison Farm'. She hitchhikes to get there, but sadly never arrives. The person she was planning to meet wasn't expecting her, and thus never says anything.

Of course there are a hundred other ways it could go, e.g. someone is lying, or didn't recognise her, or she was mistaken about the prison etc.

I would assume she probably knew Ellis held death row if she was in Aransas Pass for any length of time... The specific unit she asked about seems like it would not be a "mistake" - people just don't ask to visit the death row prison when they know people in minimum security imo.

Possibly. I would have to double check the statement from the brother and sister at the motel but I believe Kathy also claimed to be from the same part of Texas as did Sherri.

Pretty sure "Kathy" said she was coming from the Corpus Christi area, or that area was mentioned in the statement.

Ellis has a 2,000 inmate capacity.
Currently there are 198 inmates on death row, so the prison housed more than death row at the time.

(As an aside, Ellis no longer houses death row inmates. They are now at the Polunsky Unit.)
