re: "Who cares?"

Sherri also told the waitress she was 19. I've mentioned this previously, but "Who cares?" struck me as "Who cares? I'm an adult."

I think if/when more is learned about the months she spent missing, Sherri may have been passing as an adult. Remember there is a photo we have not seen. She very well may have been able to convince people she was older when made up, dressed a certain way, and was bothered when the waitress called her out.

I think she looked young and vulnerable that night, but may not have all the time.

My opinion/thoughts only.

I had some "issues" as a juvenile in the 1970s.
It was pretty heavy handed, under the guise, "You won't have a record"..."You haven't really broken the law, but we think this will prevent you from breaking the law in the future".
The odds are if I had actually committed a crime, nothing would have happened to me because then I would have "had rights".

Are there any suspects for this case? Where was Gary Ridgway around this time?

He was in Washington. AFAIK, the furthest he ventured out and killed was in Tigard, Oregon, so I doubt he would have killed Sherry in Texas. JMO.

His 2 still-unidentified victims: 98UFWA (Jane Doe B-17) and Jane Doe B-20 (Jane Doe B-20).

Thanks, I'm in Australia so not familiar with American geography. Just knew GR was a serial killer and a truck driver. Would be a long shot.

No problem - there's a LOT of states to remember :P Washington and Texas are both geographically big states that are super far apart. Where I am in Washington (not far from where Ridgway killed his victims), it's almost 2500 mi/3775 km to Huntsville. However, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if her killer was someone with a very similar profile and background as Ridgway, just in a different location. I would also like to extend this comment to the killer(s) of the Texas Killing Fields as a whole.

The more that I piece things together in my mind with the new information that has been released I have a gut feeling that she did not run away alone. Understandable if authorities want to keep information about other inhabitants of the truancy home, or just info about the facility itself under wraps. Perhaps if she was with a female companion it was the friend who wanted directions to the prison and sent sherri in to ask, I know when I was a kid it was not uncommon to pin things like that onto others ie "you go ask"
You’re somewhat right, Sherry didn’t initially run away alone. In an article a childhood friend of Sherry’s claims she ran away with two sisters and the three made it to Wisconsin. The sisters decided to return to Minnesota but Sherry refused to go with them, and allegedly ran off on foot. From there it seems she was on her own, but her brother also mentioned on Facebook that before Sherry was removed from her parents’ home, she was hanging out with the wrong crowd.

It’s possible she made friends with someone who ended up in the prison and that’s who she was going to visit, and ended up asking around.

"Cases such as the 41-year-old cold case of the “Walker County Jane Doe” Sherri Ann Jarvis, highlight the dangers of missing children..."

Documentary highlights story of Brazos Valley runaways

Worth a read, it highlights the vulnerable situation of runaway children.

I'm from Brazil, I don't speak English, so I'm using Google Translate, you might not understand something I say because of that.

I'm following the Sherri case, I was very saddened by her death, so brutal, she was an angel.

I believe she was the victim of a car driver or truck driver. Surely she was tired, and needed sleep, so the next day she could go to Elis prison.

I have two questions, I believe Carl (congratulations on the volunteer work) will be able to answer them, but I appreciate anyone who knows:

- Are the sandals she was carrying still in the possession of the police? Is there a photo of these sandals? They may have fingerprints that were collected and genetic material.

- About Sherri's photos. Comparing her probably school yearbook photos with the photo that appears to be from 1979 (Hamm's beer in the background), I analyzed her (beautiful) smile: Pay attention, it looks like she extracted one of the central incisor teeth, causing either the arch was perfect and aligned. Maybe that's why she didn't use braces. See that looking at the photo, the left central incisor is actually the left lateral incisor for those looking (I could be wrong, but the size and shape of two central teeth is different.).

These are helpful remarks, not intended to offend Sherri's memory or anyone else reading this.

For the sandals, it was reported that the investigators did DNA testing on them, I don't know when they did these tests (but I think it was around November 2015) , but the results from it haven't been made public yet. I think the police still have the sandals, and no there is not a photo of them.

I hope my response translates easily for you :)

Yes, I understood perfectly! :) thanks!

If the sandals are in police custody, we may have good news soon.

Happy Birthday Sherry. Today we can finally celebrate your birthday for the first time, after only knowing your death. Hope you are at peace and we can give you justice.
(it's the 9th for me rn, feel like I should clarify)

Since it’s “Sherri” on the headstone, doesn’t that once and for all settle how to spell her name?

That's a great headstone. I'm glad they used her actual picture instead of one of the composites
