Her hair looks dark in the black and white pictures but according to Carl the color pictures show lighter brown.

I was looking through a Rockport fb page and I was wondering if WCJD said she was from that area because she had been vacationing there that summer. Its not uncommon for families to have beach houses. I have seen a couple different names thrown out by locals as possible identities. I know they have been mentioned here but I haven't seen that anything came of it. If she was just a summer resident it would explain why she wasn't known to any of the schools or known around the community. Her reason for lying could be that she feared her parents/guardians had reported her as a runaway and that people would be looking for her.
Could she have had a friend or relative that lived there at some point? If you lie about where you are from it's usually a place you can easily remember. Even if you never were there yourself. Whether you are a teenage runaway, trying to prevent a creeper at a bar from finding you on facebook or trying to ditch a stalker, you might pick a place that isn't connected to you directly. I wonder if she had an accent.
Would the prison be a landmark or a place to meet someone? Is it near anything else. If she was hitchhiking could that have just been a point of reference on where she was going? Do you know what was needed to visit an inmate as far as ID or if there were certain visiting hours? Sorry if that's already been asked.

Her shade of light brown was pretty much like I have it in my most recent version of my reconstruction (shown in my avatar). My earlier versions, and NCMEC's most recent reconstruction show too much of a reddish tint, IMO

Carl,

Not to be critical, but your current reconstruction shows light brown hair. WCJD had a certain shade brown hair, like the 2015 NCMEC reconstruction.

I'm sure this question has been asked but have Aransas Pass or Rockport year books been checked for a student resembling Jane Doe?

Yes. CarlK has and I think a few others have, too.

I remember high school yearbooks being checked, to the best of their availability, but I can't remember if middle school yearbooks were checked? If she were at the lower end of the age range or had dropped out, she might be in a middle school book.

I think CarlK said those books weren't on line.

In 10 days, WCJD will have been unidentified for 38 years.

He left her where she would definitely be found. I'm wondering how he wasn't seen on the side of the road while he took her body from the vehicle. Unless he was parked on a side road and came toward the highway from that way.

He wouldn't even have to leave the vehicle. He could just open the passenger door and push her out. The truck would provide a screen if anybody did go past.

And trucks stop beside the road all the time to check the tires or the ties on their load. Even if somebody saw him, they wouldn't likely think anything of it.

But was she that close to the road? It was a trucker that ended up spotting her so that makes it sound like she was not readily seen.

I don't mean to be gross, but most roadsides are sloped, and anything pushed out of a vehicle tends to roll, especially if the vehicle is in motion...

True. I don't know what it looked like back then but today you have a few sloping ditches but a lot of the time they are just nearly flat areas. There side roads running along side 45 and their distance varies in different areas. It is also possible to park on the side of those roads and not necessarily be visible to traffic on 45. The trees might have been closer to the road then too. There are still big areas where the dead trees are still standing after the fire a few years ago.

I don't remember if I brought it up before but I was reading a thread on another site and the question was raised if its possible the girl the waitress talked to was a different girl.
Also I have found old articles that state several girls that had disappeared in Bryan/College Station were later found dead in Sam Houston Park. One woman who disappeared in Bryan in May 1979 is pictured wearing a very similar necklace to the one WCJD was found wearing. I am curious if it is possible a serial killer could have been putting other woman's jewelry on his victims. The chain on her necklace was described as thin in one report. If her attack and murder were that violent the necklace could have been damaged. I have never seen any documentation that it was broken when she was found.
Did the waitress mention the necklace in the interview with detectives? I know they described clothing and the shoes.
Have the police ever released the actual reports on the case? Autopsy report? I am surprised that there are no photographs besides the coroner head shots. I have been able to find actual crime scene photos for so many other murders of that time but not hers. Either Walker County is good at keeping secrets or they don't exist/were lost.
I have also found no newspaper articles online about the crime.

do serial killers often do that? turn their female victims into dress-up dolls?
