Mary's case just seems jumbled. No one seems to know her LKA date. Doe Network says January 1, 1980 and Charley Project just says spring of 1980. Spring to me could mean anything from March to May. I'm sorry, but how do you not know the exact date your family member went missing? Also 5'8" seems really tall for a 12 year old. I wonder if some of the information was entered wrong.

And you're absolutely right, the photos they have for her make her look like a little girl not someone who is almost a teenager.

Inspired by the Carol Anne Cole case, I contacted some people from the Rebekah House and they are circulating her image. Fingers crossed someone might recognize her!

I think you should submit her. NAMUS actually lists her "missing date" as July 15, 1981, even though the notes say 80. So, if CODIS had presented a potential match at some point, it's possible it would be disregarded because of date confusion and the potential match not followed up on.

Also, they do look a lot alike to me. Not so much the reconstruction, but Mary's pic vs WCJD PM pics.

Late 80's/ early 90's inmates put ads in teen angels mag for pen pals. I'm sure that's not the only publication. Also could a been through friend of friend.

I think the inmate is red herring though. I think she caught the wrong ride.

Random story. A few months ago, the business I work for was featured in a newspaper article where it directly named a coworker and had their photo. A few weeks after the article was published she got a letter in the mail from a prisoner basically stating that he saw her photo in the article and wrote to her at the business address with some creepy details.

I agree with you that the prison was likely just a landmark for this young girl. However with the number of creepy people out there, there's always that chance he saw her photo in a newspaper because she won an award/played a sport/etc and contacted her.

That is creepy as heck! I would dearly love to know if Ruthie Doe was featured in an article/something of that nature, and then the inmate didn't admit to knowing her since she was underaged.

That's weird, since Doe says Spring 80. Nampn lists her LKA date as July 15 1981 but in their description says Spring 80. Couldn't find NamUs page. I'll submit it later today.

Even if the 5'8 listing was entered correctly, it's within 2 inches. I am not in any way confident this is her, but we have nothing to lose and everything to gain if it is her.

I've read somewhere .. That investigators found proof Lucas didn't kill Orange Socks.. Read the found he was at work and later at a check cashing place the same day OS was killed.. And the timeline wouldn't allow him time to get to Texas ?? May or may not be true.. Just remember reading it a few years ago.. When the movie about Lucas .. Came out...

Also I just spoke with my aunt ( who lives in Huntsville and has for 60 plus years) I was correct in thinking if "Ruthie" was headed to Ellis Unit from Gulf Shore station.. She'd have gone in complete wrong direction to end up at Hitchin Post .. I wish I could find a map to post to show the locations ..

Then she could've gotten lost headed the opposite direction, then stopped at the Hitchin for directions after she was lost and confused. I imagine a young girl looking confused and lost would be an easy target.

Who did you e mail? Just curious. I was going to submit her to Doe Net, all good either way. Maybe better, in the way you proceeded. We will see. The problem I run into with UIDs, is that they sometimes seem to want all things to line up perfectly, and SO many times that is never the case. The one's with open minds on the official side are the one's who crack these cases. IMO.
If the UID has a narrow age range, I tend to search within, BUT also- below or above it, (especially re: skeletal remains)

Recently, NamUS UP# 8382 who had been found on the shore of Yuba Lake in Juab County, UT in September 1978 was identified as Marilee Bruszer from Long Beach, CA. There were quite a few discrepancies between Ms. Bruszer’s vital statistics and those estimated by the Coroner/Medical Examiner in Utah. Two really glaring discrepancies were her age (Marilee was 33 year old when she disappeared, Jane Doe was estimated to be between 18 to 22) and the time of death (Marilee disappeared from Long Beach two weeks previous, Jane Doe was estimated to have been dead for 2 to 3 years). I couldn’t help but notice a number of missing men appear to have been ruled out due to age (vitals) or circumstance alone on the spreadsheet – it would be a good idea to take a look at these people again if they haven’t actually been ruled out by dentals or DNA.

Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. I didn't call it in, because I have had bad luck with that.

Also agree. Not everything is going to match up perfectly, it's unrealistic. Usually there's one or two questionable factors about a match. Of course, sometimes everything does match up, but that's pretty rare.
