Getting a tiny bit grisly here...

I just did my own comparison of her morgue photograph (not the funeral one, but one where her mouth is open) and the recently surfaced one of a girl believed to be named Kathy (or a variant). IMHO, everything looks like a match. Her forehead, eyes, and especially nose and chin match the new picture.

Where did the new picture come from? Where did the name suggestions appear?

A man sent the picture to Carl of Kathy. He had met Kathy briefly during a stay in a motel, likely in Beeville TX, sometime after pril 1980. She hung out with him and his sister. They took the photo after Kathy and the sister went swimming, so her hair was wet. She was staying with a couple in their thirties at the time, and had a friend in Sugarland Prison. Kathy asked the guy's stepfather for a ride to Sugarland, but he didn't end up giving her one.

Apparently, the couple she was staying with owned a large car, possibly a Chevy, with a white/beige top, similar to the one that dropped WCJD at the Hitch'n'---only it was maroon instead of blue.

Although his sister couldn't corroborate whether Kathy did have a friend in Sugarland Prison.

Didn't this girl have something along the lines of PID from getting an STD? So she was obviously sexually active ....when did girls around this time start becoming sexually active? was it pretty young, or were they older? If she was a Christian missionary and active at her church, wouldn't the chances be more likely of her not being sexually active? That sort of dissuades me from thinking she was active in a Church ...but who knows...I also don't think "churchy" people have a tendency to run away from their parents (if they're actively involved in the church that is) AND if she was 14 she probably would've had to have that std for at least a year or two before it would develop into something as serious as PID (usually it does). So would it be likely that she was having sex at 12/13 in that time period? I probably think she was at like 15/16 then and not younger than 14, but who knows I may be wrong, but just thought I would chime in since I've been reading this thread for a while without actually contributing :D

I don't think she had PID.

In the link it said she was placed on garage door springs. They would have had to come from the scrap yard. I can't imagine anyone driving around with those in their car. Most scrap yards are fenced and locked to ward off theft. I could be totally wrong, but I feel like he had access to one of those building somehow.

My gut instinct agrees with you, catherine. Especially in Mt. Vernon/the Bronx, you'd want to keep people away from your scrap metal - people are still stealing copper out of buildings up here, to sell for $ for drugs. My original theory was that he or his family owned one of those businesses.

I don't recall any mention of WCJD having PID...but Orange Socks, who was found exactly a year before her, about two hours away from her, suffered from salphignitis from gonorrhea. IDK if that's who you're thinking of.

ahh yes, I'm probably thinking of that then. Probably just read it in this forum and assumed wcjd

I just realized I quoted from the 1988 Mount Vernon Jane Doe thread too in my reply to ddg. I was really tired, LOL.

I'm sorry if this has been thrown out already...but is it possible she was a ward of the state? Back then the system was very different, and I could see a child being placed and then taking off with no one reporting it (for various reasons) and bio parents having no clue. Back then, before the reform, kids got "lost" in the system all the time. I guess, even if, that's not really as helpful, because I don't know how you'd go about checking.

Also, if she knew someone at the prison (inmate or employee) I could see someone her age taking off to go see them (for whatever reason) and not actually thinking it through (visiting hours or logistics).

At that age, you work off emotion, logic comes wayyyy second. Like she was carrying her heels, probably wasn't planning on walking miles when she put them on- I bet they hurt her feet. She didn't appear to have a backpack etc. with her, which means she either didn't plan this trip, lost her stuff or didn't own much. When asked about her parents, she said "who cares" (per the waitress anyway). So she had some negative emotion connected with the idea of either her parents or caregivers (in the moment anyway, and if the waitress story is legit). It was Halloween and she wasn't out playing pranks with friends, she was alone- and on a mission.

Again, my apologies if these have been tossed around already. I just saw this case on someone's signature and read through the thread and the website. I'm a social worker, so hearing that no one came forward, she was hitchhiking, looking for a "friend" in the prison, "who cares" in regards to her parents, maybe lying about her age etc. kinda made me think.

Shouldnt apologise. Makes perfect sense to me. Good call :-)

Yes, I've had the thought she could have been a foster child too.

Look at 2 famous Doe cases recently solved; 1979 Caledonia Jane Doe - Tammy Jo Alexander and Grateful Dead Fan, Jason Callahan; who has had a lot of media coverage. Up until recently, people didn't want to share WCJD's story/ album. I feel that the right person hasn't seen it.

I don't know--I feel that "Who cares?" may be being read too much into. If a runaway was asked by an adult if their parents knew where they were, I don't think they would say "No, they don't." If anything, it reads like an attempt to dodge the question--to me, anyway.

Okay, so I just spent... since about 6 PM (it's currently 2:15 am, granted I took a few breaks when my head started to spin) compiling (ALMOST.) every MP suggestion in here, similar for what I did for the Mount Vernon, NY Jane Doe. I skipped the ones that I thought were too far ahead -- anyone missing past 1980.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Gd21OdYiFaDZWcAi9RKaQsNGe5HeQCzmCZuQPDBTHQk/edit#gid=0

Again, this was mostly for my own reference, but also for everyone in here's as well. I saw so. many. repeats. Hopefully this helps with any MP searching in the future -- if I missed anything (a submission, a detail you know, etc) please let me know and I'll edit it!

As for me, right now, I'm going to go sleep.

Welcome to Websleuths & thank you so much for working on Rule out/ suggested lists for WCJD & MVJD! Very much appreciated!

Or it may have been linked to other, non Texas killing field cases too. We don't know yet.

Yeah, to me it seems like a flippant response a sassy teen would give an adult asking a question they find boring or don't want to answer.
