GUILTY TX - James Faith, AA tech director, fatally shot walking his dog, Dallas, 9 Oct 2020 *ARRESTS/wife*

Newbies to this thread might like to read this excellent comprehensive article.

My brother was 14 and was riding his bike when struck by a hit and run driver resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury. He wasn’t expected to live but miraculously survived. The brain injury was so severe that my parents were told he wouldn’t be able to return to school for at least 2 years. It had a profound permanent effect on him mentally and his personality changed completely, not for the better.

Having first-hand knowledge of how mentally fragile a person can become after suffering this type of trauma, I hope the judge understands that such a person would be like putty in the hands of someone as manipulative and cruel as JLF.

I am not seeing DL on the docket today...I am wondering if his announcement hearing is going to pass again?

OK, so based on this: If they hadn't been able to retrieve the deleted texts from DL's phone, then they wouldn't have had the proof they needed to convict them. In any case, glad they were able to get these texts.

I honestly don't know much about the logistics re: deleting text messages from phones/computers. If you delete them, obviously you can't see them anymore. But, it sounds like they can be retrieved - at least in some cases. That being said, if you do a factory reset on either a phone or a computer, my understanding used to be that the information is gone for good....but it sounds like that's not always the case.

Police can recover deleted photos, text and WhatsApp messages from iPhone/Android and that includes a factory reset.

In the case of PCs and laptops with HDD hard drives, the police and forensic entities can recover the data as long as it has not been overwritten.

No matter what sort of device you have, if it has a SSD hard drive, this is problematic and they may not be able to do so.

Is this a typo or is it true?
"The firearm used to kill Mr. Faith was recovered inside his home. Lopez was also charged with a federal gun crime. He has pleaded guilty to the gun charge as well as the murder charge."

@Dieselmomm -- good eye!
It's a typo. But People got it right in the first paragraph. (In the 48 Hour episode, it was reported that DL admitted to being the shooter after Jennnifer asked him to kill her husband but went on to plead NOT guilty at his arraignment).

Lopez, who is charged with murder, has pleaded not guilty.

Also in his Federal charge he plead not guilty & that will be taken care of after his murder case.
Definitely a typo!

Edited to add: Unless!! He DID plead guilty at his announcement hearing on 6/24 - ?? The court site hasn't been updated yet either.

I'm still seeing several current reports on Jennifer's sentencing and how she misled her Dickson ex-boyfriend which leads me to think nothing significant happened at DL's hearing last Friday --otherwise MSM would have been all over it.

With the exception of DL's first hearing on 5/14/21, and Court dates 11/17/21 and 3/10/22 set as "OTHE " -- like clockwork, DL is still set for "ANNO" on 7/22/22.

I believe the designation stands for Announcement

I found some info on the court and Judge for DL -- unfortunately, no docket/calendar link.

Yes, @Seattle1 - he has had quite a few announcement hearings.

Definition:
Announcement - Hearing at which it will be decided whether your case will be handled through a plea or if it will go to trial.

Thanks, @Niner.
I'm really having a hard time with Texas justice system.

We have this case, JF murdered 2020, and Heidi Broussard's 2019 murder in Travis County, that have been waiting for justice for years, yet at the hearing on 7/21 in Austin for defendant Kaitlin Armstrong (allegedly murdered Mo Wilson), she's scheduled for docket review on Oct 19, 2022, and jury trial the next week!

How does the court justify letting a defendant with a well-heeled Defense Firm behind her cut ahead like that while JF's family (and Heidi's) are still left on hold?

OK, venting is over.
