A homeowner has not been seen since a murder victim was found at the missing man's house, and Houston police say they need your help finding him.

Officers were called last Friday at about 8:30 a.m. to the home in the 1700 block of T.C. Jester Boulevard for a welfare check.

It was the homeowner's neighbors who called police after seeing a pickup truck had been left running in the garage for several hours and the homeowner wasn't picking up his phone.

Police said they have not been able to locate 37-year-old James Gerald Martin III since Thursday of last week.

Once inside the home, police found a 35-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. Detectives tell us the man's injuries came from the day before.

Police said the 35-year-old man, identified as Dana Ryssdal, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. The homeowner, identified as 37-year-old James Gerald Martin III has not been located.

A background check shows that Martin has several ties to Oregon, where he's linked to several cannabis businesses.

ABC13 has learned the identity of the man found shot to death inside the home on the 1700 block of T.C. Jester Boulevard was 35-year-old Dana Las Ryssdal from Oregon.

[...]

Police said neighbors knew something was not right in the home, which records reveal Martin's parents purchased in March 2022. The 2,450-square-foot home is one of 11 houses in a gated community.

"It was unusual, so the neighbors reached out to family, and ultimately, they decided to call 911," Det. Blake Roberts with HPD said.

So, the missing person isn't even from here? Someone knew he was going to be in town. I wonder if he was bringing some of his "product" to sell to friends down here or something? Robbery gone wrong?

Missing person is the home owner (or son of the homeowner) - seems he lives in Houston now.

Deceased is currently from Oregon. I've done some googling and he looks to be a normal looking guy, more on the business side of the legal cannabis industry.

Interesting stuff.

Given that the stolen truck has Oregon plates, I think we can all see where this is going.

Homicide detectives were advised an autopsy has identified a man found deceased on Wednesday (Feb. 1) as James Gerald Martin III, 37. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

A vehicle, a 2022 white Dodge Ram pickup truck with Oregon license plates, was missing from the residence. The vehicle was found abandoned off the roadway in the 6900 block of Cullen Boulevard on Monday (Jan. 30) and is being processed for possible evidence.

Martin and the Dodge Ram truck (owned by Ryssdal) were missing from the residence. Last Sunday (Jan. 29), detectives asked for the public’s assistance in locating Martin and the truck.

During the course of the investigation, detectives recovered another vehicle at the T.C. Jester residence. A man’s body was observed inside the vehicle on Wednesday (Feb. 1). The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences conducted an autopsy and formally identified the man as James Martin and ruled his manner of death a homicide. The vehicle is being processed for possible evidence.

No they didn't find Mr. Martin's body in the car in his garage (the silver prius). They found his body in some other vehicle on the property. The property looks to consist of 11 townhomes, so IF his body was in the trunk of one of the cars in one of the 9 spillover parking spots I can kinda sorta see them not checking those cars for a few days.

This is so bizarre. Martin's body was apparently in the trunk of the Prius that was running in the garage and was then towed to an HPD impound lot after the crime was discovered.
A body was found in a car at HPD impound. What happened?
Thanks for the link, tburn. :)

From the article:

... According to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, Martin was discovered at the HPD vehicle impound lot. A Feb. 4 police statement simply says, "During the course of the investigation, detectives recovered another vehicle at the T.C. Jester residence. A man’s body was observed inside the vehicle on Wednesday (Feb. 1)."

It is unclear when the warrant was requested, if it was on Jan. 27 or later. The Harris County District Clerk's office does not have a copy of the search warrant available—HPD did not file it with their office, nor are they required to do so—and the Houston Police Department's media relations department did not have any information about the search warrant. What is clear is that Martin was in the trunk of his Toyota Prius from when it was first reported as running in the garage of his home. He was not discovered until five days later, after the car had been towed.
