This is what I’ve been able to find so far... although I’m certain there’s more to this story and more information to be found o_O

Janet Louise Burkett

(1) Color image of ‘64 yearbook photo; public Ancestry tree (2) ‘64 Granite HS photo

Date of Birth: November 28, 1947 (Nueces County, Texas)
1964: Granite High School, Granite, Oklahoma (Sophomore)
May 22, 1965: Married Charles B. Hollingsworth in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas
February 1966: Daughter born

April 1970: Son born. Passed away in 2006 (obituary listed his mother, Janet Burkett Hollingsworth as predeceasing him)
August 18, 1973: Disappeared; SSDI lists Sulphur, Louisiana as last reported benefit claim
November 4, 1974: Divorce granted from Charles in Bexar County, Texas

I tried searching yearbooks and other public databases for details surrounding Janet’s disappearance and came up with nothing. Notations made by some members on Ancestry suggest that she met with foul play and is no longer alive, but I wasn’t able to find evidence of those speculations. There seems to be an archived San Antonio Express-News article from 1975 that mentions Janet being missing, but I’m unable to locate it online and don’t have access to the UTSA Library. Maybe someone else can locate something with this additional information. At least we can put a face to the name now.

Thank you so much for taking the time to find additional information and photos for the missing. I don't have an ancestry account so i can't find a lot of information.

It’s no problem at all! I’m very happy to do it! :)
I’m just starting to feel comfortable with Ancestry. When I find people like Janet who have very little information included in their reports, particularly photos, I feel like it’s the least I can do to take a few minutes and see what I can find. Especially if it could help in our searches. Teamwork! ;)

San Antonio Light - 08/22/1981

Man confessed to Indiana LE an 8 year old murder
Alan Curtis Klise confessed he dumped her body near a railroad track in West Bexar, however LE have yet to find any remains. The victim was identified as Janet Hollingsworth 25 of 7322 Karankawa Drive. Le took Klise to where he dumped the body however no remains were found. Klise a former cookie salesman, confessed the crime to an Elkhart transient shelter. Klise said he met the victim at a San Antonio night club invited her to breakfast at a close restaurant. The woman 1st accompanied Klise however changed her mind. Klise claimed he strangled the woman removed her cloths and dumped her body in a vacant field near railroad tracks.

San Antonio Light - 09/02/1981

Murder charges have been dismissed against Klise a drifter that confessed to strangling a San Antonio woman, because the body of his alleged victim was never found. After a diligent search LE was unable to locate any remains in which would be necessary to prosecute under Texas law. There is no statue of limitations on a murder charge and if the body is found Klise may face prosecution.

It’s been more than 40 years and the case of missing person Janet Hollingsworth is still active with the San Antonio Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit.

While the search to find Hollingsworth may be difficult, it doesn’t mean investigators will not stop looking.

Hollingsworth was last seen on the North Side of town back in August of 1973.
---
“Huebner, Bitters, Church Hill Estates area, she was at a club just having a social night out, “ said Pruneda.

The truck belonging to Hollingsworth was recovered at the club, but she was never located.

“We need people’s help, “ Pruneda went on to say. Anyone with any information on the disappearance of Janet Hollingsworth is asked to call the San Antonio Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit at (210)207-7660.

Has she been ruled out?
There are several things that don't make sense (Jane Doe had scoliosis, her right leg was shorter than her left leg and she may have had a limp, she had a porcelain crown on one of her teeth), but this is the only UID located in Bexar county that may fit her profile.

There are no exclusions listed for Janet yet.

This is my great aunt. It's so sad and cruel that someone could just disappear without a trace, let alone a mother leaving her children. I hope someday answers will be found.
