TX TX - Jason Landry Missing After Car Found Crashed Near Luling, Dec 2020 #7

Here's the thing though: I am going to assume a thorough search was done looking for him or his body and he was not found---that is the piece of the puzzle that does not fit- How far could have gone in that state?
There are so many cases here where the body has not been found. One off the top of my head is Bryce Borca. It sadly happens all the time. :(

There are a surprisingly large number of cases where a person has disappeared after a single car accident, even ones that are not severe. And they haven’t been found near their car despite searches. I don’t think there’s something driving around looking for accident victims and removing them. I just think we don’t really understand that much about possible head trauma in these accidents.

Maura Murray disappeared 20 years ago under similar circumstances (single car accident, gathered some times, and walked away from the car) and hasn't been found.

I feel like there must be some...innate survival instinct after a crash like this? Triggers the survival/flight instinct. Another man, Christopher Bartell, was missing after he crashed his car in Liberty, TX in 2021. Luckily, he was found alive about 48 hours later. (article) However, I don't know offhand how far he got from the crash site.

Here's my guess what happened that night: Checking that SnapChat made him take the wrong route which put him on a gravel road. He was obviously driving too fast on the gravel, had a single car accident, was knocked out for some time. Suffered from hypothermia and paradoxical undressing (hence why his clothes were scattered around) and his body just hasn't been found.

I just don't see an opportunity or motive for foul play.

All IMO.
I agree. Death by misadventure.

Head trauma exacerbated by drug use is not a good combination.

It's so sad to see that Jason is still missing. It reminds me of Brandon Lawson, except with head trauma instead of hard substances (both equally sad).

So was he only supposed to be away for one night? Did he have his pet fish with him? If so, I wonder if he brought his fish for overnight visits.

Speaking from personal experience-- the possibility that Maura or Christopher, or anyone, got into a car with a stranger doesn't surprise me. Late 80's, my car crashed into a guard rail on an icy morning. I didn't have a cell phone then. Much to my surprise, a woman that I knew as a patient from the medical office I managed, pulled up and I asked her for a ride to a payphone. I remember being so surprised and happy that she pulled up at just the right time. Well, my brain was obviously stunned by the car accident. Later in the day with my wits about me, I realized that I had gotten into a car with a total stranger, someone I didn't know, someone who was not any patient from the medical office. I also realized that things could have turned out very differently for me, since she drove me about 10 miles to a payphone and the accident had happened within 50' of a motel where I could have used the phone.

A candlelight vigil will be held on Friday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. to honor the memory of Jason Landry, who vanished four years ago.

The event will take place at the crash site where Jason’s car was found, located just north of 2379 Salt Flat Rd. in Luling, Texas

Parents of Jason Landry hold on to hope as search for missing son nears four-year mark.

Thanks to the efforts of Project Absentis, the case is now under the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit, offering renewed hope.

Still, the Landry family faces an emotional journey, compounded by false leads and the pain of the holidays without Jason.

Jason’s mother reflected on the lingering loss.

“Do you guys still have presents wrapped for Jason?” Yami asked.
“They’re still in his room."
"What do you do with them?"
"We know they’re there."

Thank you for the updates- it is good to know Jason is not forgotten and people continue to search for him- Like others who have disappeared, this case remains such a mystery!

It's hard to believe that Jason is still missing after all this time considering all the multiple searches that have occurred, and the fact 2 ex-FBI (I think they were) were also investigating his case. You'd think with all those hands and eyes on the case, something would have been uncovered by now. :( It's just so sad for Jason's family and friends to not have closure. :(

Cases like this- there are too many actually- sadly, we will probably never know what happened to Jason and it will remain a mystery! In his case there have been dedicated searches that have turned up nothing. sigh

This was the TX AG's statement from 2023 (3rd Anniv) but don't recall seeing anything for 2024:

I did not notice your specific reference but many threads ago I did post from Jason's Twitter in March 2018 when tweeted he was accepted to Stephen F. Austin State University (Lumberjacks), and he was over the moon happy! It was shortly after my post that we learned TSU was actually the third school Jason attended. Sam Houston could have been the prior one -- I don't recall and don't have Facebook to confirm.

If I've read this correctly he began his educational journey with Stephen F. Austin State University; and later Texas State and Sam Houston? Why? Stephen F. Austin was ranked #35, Texas State and Sam Houston #200+ .....
