Developing active shooting at San Antonio mall

"The Live Oak Police Department confirmed to KENS 5 that a shooting occurred at Rolling Oaks Mall on Sunday afternoon.

San Antonio police also are on the scene.

There were few immediate details that could be confirmed by law enforcement.

An unarmed man attempted to stop the robbery and was shot and killed. A second man pulled out his concealed weapon and shot one of the suspects. The second suspect fled the scene, shooting as he ran. Their condition has not been released.

The shooting suspect was transported to SAMC in critical condition. A male and female shooting victim were also transported to SAMC. Another person suffered a heart attack at the scene, and another woman went into labor.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A robbery inside a San Antonio shopping mall ended with shots fired on Sunday, leaving one person who tried to intervene dead, three others shot and another two people taken to hospital with non-shooting injuries, police and fire officials said.
Police Chief William McManus said two suspects robbed a jewelry store at the Rolling Oaks Mall on Sunday.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio police say two suspects are in custody after a robbery inside a shopping mall ended in a shooting that left one man dead and several injured.

In a statement early Monday, police say both suspects face preliminary charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

San Antonio Police Spokesman Douglas Greene said late Sunday that Converse Police had arrested a 35-year-old Hispanic man believed to be the suspect who had escaped after a fatal attempted robbery of Kay Jewelers at Rolling Oaks Mall earlier in the day.

The second suspect, who initially fled the scene, was apprehended Sunday night after a car crash in nearby Converse, police said in a statement early Monday. Two weapons were recovered from the suspect.

I worked in an upscale jewelry store in a mall. That has got to be about the dumbest robbery to try and pull off. Loads of witnesses, difficult to escape, and not to mention TONS of video. I can't begin to imagine what kind of defense their attorneys will try to present. Maybe they'll say they were sleep walking.

34-year-old identified as second suspect in Rolling Oaks Mall shooting

Jose Luis Rojas, 34, remains in critical condition at San Antonio Military Medical Center Tuesday morning after being shot several times during an attempted armed robbery at a Kay Jewelry store in the Rolling Oaks mall.

Rojas faces charges of capital murder and two counts of aggravated robbery, according to previous reports.
