Updated at 8:20 p.m.: Revised to reflect that deliberations will continue Tuesday.

Jurors will continue deliberating whether a former Balch Springs officer committed murder when he fired a rifle into a car full of teenagers, killing a 15-year-old boy.

The jury spent about eight hours Monday working to reach a verdict. The jurors will be sequestered for the night before they resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The deliberations began after prosecutors and defense attorneys on Monday presented vastly different portrayals of 38-year-old Roy Oliver during closing arguments.

After deliberating for several hours Monday, the jury hearing the case against Roy Oliver for the 2017 murder of Jordan Edwards could not come to a verdict.

Jurors will resume deliberations Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Jurors are considering the charge of murder, but if they can't come to a unanimous decision, they may consider a lesser charge of manslaughter.

#RoyOliverTrial jury issues another question to court- indicating they may be split on the justification aspect of shooting- Was the shooting justified? Jurors must have unanimous vote either way. Right now, they are apparently split.
