Selling the baby wouldn't have gotten her a baby to give to her fiance. Unless the fiance doesn't exist. All so confusing. And no, I don't think any AA fiance would have believed a white-looking baby was likely to be his, especially since the baby popped up suddenly without any kind of documentation. She just suddenly shows up with a white baby and drops him off with her sister.

I really do hope they won't let her out on the street again, even if she is found mentally incompetent. She isn't to be trusted. Who knows what she'd do if she got loose again. She can't even tell the truth about her nursing credentials, apparently, which is a no-no.

I feel bad for the witnesses in this case too. On my local news tonight they showed a brief clip of one of the witnesses and she was bawling just recounting the story. She said she called Kala's mom on Kala's cell phone at Kala's request as she lay dying. The woman said she was glad that Kala's mom made it to the crime scene before Kala died.

Then she said that she just can't stand the thought that Kala died before she knew if Keegan was safe. She said she told Kala, "Keep fighting" and Kala said, "I'm trying."

Absolutely heartbreaking.

I still can't believe CPS didn't give the kids back to the father.
The two of them were legally married. Now the guy lost his wife and doesn't have his kids either, even though he isn't accused of any wrongdoing.

In some cases, infants are taken for ransom or because of a conflict with the parents or family of the baby. It was not immediately clear whether or not McClain had any connection with Golden or the baby's father, Keith Schuchardt.

But in most cases, experts say a woman who takes a baby experiences a void in her life -- a void she believes only a baby can fill.

But neither does a woman take a baby simply for the joy of loving and caring for it.

"In almost every case, it is a woman who is desperate to have a child in order to keep a man," said Jack Levin, a professor of sociology and criminology at Northeastern University in Boston.

"The primary reason is an effort to save a relationship with a man by presenting him with his baby," Lanning said.

McClain was already a mother of three children, ages 16, 10 and 6 -- but Lanning said older children may not be enough to satisfy the mental and emotional urges of women who commit these crimes.

Sorta OT but you know what gets me, THIS dad was denied his children at first yet Michelle Parkers twins are with their dad who is the ONLY suspect in her death and the last to see her. And don't even get me started on Josh Powell.

Still i appreciate all the work the cops have done to get the perp and recover the baby so if they and CPS had to make sure the dad was ok (in light of the Michelle Parker and Susan Powell cases) then cant give them much flack over it. It is a tragic situation all around.

One of the last things a witness heard her say as she lay dying was "my baby, my baby!!"

I cant help but wonder about the mindset of the perp. Was she purposely targeting a white infant or was she getting desperate and had to take the only baby she found. It just doesn't make sense that she would think she could pass a white child off to her fiance and others.
I understand that black people can sometimes give birth to light children or children who appear white but those children do stand out next to their parent or sibling who are not as light. Surely someone would have had doubts. Her plan to pass the child off as adopted to her sister and as her biological child to her fiance wasn't very well thought out either.
The whole thing is just bizarre but most of all it is incredibly tragic, heartbreaking and The perp needs to be put away forever. As a mother herself who professed such love for her own children how could she do this to another mother. Wow.... just wow.

Are the pics posted online of the actual baby? I saw some with a baby with super dark hair. Perhaps Verna thought that baby was AA when she saw the head of dark hair?? Some AA babies are born with more fair skin and get darker as they age. Otherwise I have no idea.

That's the actual baby. He does have dark hair but it's very straight so he doesn't look AA at all. I also have no clue as to what this woman was planning to do to pass the child as her and her fiancee's. Apparently to her sister she was telling she was going to adopt the child, so if that story is true, she apparently didn't expect that her sister was going to believe this was her bio child.

I also think Montgomery County did a great job handling the case.If this had happened in Harris County I wonder if they would have solved it that quick.I keep thinking if Ali would have went missing in Montgomery instead of Harris County the case would be solved as well.Then again I don't think it's over.I keep thinking the sister or someone else had to be invovled as well.Maybe LE is just quietly continuing to work the case and they don't want to tick anyone off?

Agree, the reasonings are bizarre. I have wondered if the "wanting a child" could be just an excuse to cover for an attempted child trafficking or something else...for profit. Of course, as far as the charges, I don't think it would matter...but could she be lying about the reason to cover for another?

Is the bf white? Were they living together? When did she have a miscarriage? So she was just magically pregnant again and gave birth....and the sister was "in" on the deception of the so called adoption?

Very odd case, imo...and after the Jonathan Foster case, and the arrest of the perp, we haven't heard dip from TX LE....or much on the case. Will it be the same here?

Somehow I think both sisters were in on this and the plan may have been to sell the baby. Maybe she thought she could get off claiming the miscarriage with possibility of insanity?? Makes no sense at all!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. A very quick made up plan to divert the real reason that was a complete FAIL. Just who drove her and the baby to the Sugar Pine Circle addy? Taxi? Bus?

The wedding pictures were posted in September 2009, so I don't think they got married in 2011.
The wedding pictures are in front of a Christmas tree, so I don't think it was a summer wedding.

I think that it was likely a December 2008 wedding.
3 years ago, would have been 4 years in December 2012.

Here is Kala's facebook. Her husband's has a couple of wedding pictures on it, posted in September of 2009.

As far as I can tell she didn't call LE. LE were there already there investigating when she showed up and started to talk to them (appearing willing to help).

She finally began to disclose her role and revealed the whereabouts of the baby, officers say. Previous reports of an accomplice in the kidnapping and shooting appear to be unfounded, detectives said, though the incident remains under investigation."
