I was listening to the police scanner during the entire duration from the first call of a missing child until Katherine was found. The Dallas police had every available officer at the location, not only searching the apartment complex where this happened, but also the apartment complex across the street, every car that came in and out of the complex, and repeatedly checked local businesses along the main street searching.

Early on in the search the witness came forward stating the cousin as the last person who was with Katherine. He was finally located and he, the witness, and all family members except the father, were taking to headquarters for questioning prior to Katherine being found. The father was allowed to stay with officers and assist in the search. There was a delay in searching the vacant apartments due to maintenance personnel not on site at the time. Once the maintenance personnel arrived with keys, it was a very short time before the lead officer requested Dallas Fire Rescue, and then the M.E.

It is amazing how many officers were involved and how dedicated they were to finding Katherine.

My heart just shattered into a million pieces, seeing your face Kathrine.

I am so SO sorry you aren't here today, as the sun rose in Texas. Instead, roses will be laid in memorial and vigils honoring you and the life you'll never lead. :rose:

I don't understand why crimes like this happen, why children aren't safe - not even amongst their family members. But, they're not, and now, we mourn your loss, and I am personally questioning the humanity of anyone who could harm someone so tiny, precious, and innocent.

You have joined your fellow Forever Angels, far too young, far too soon. I will light a candle, cry, and forbid myself for considering the pain and terror you suffered before gaining your wings in a moment of silence.

:candle:

We will fight for justice, and I pray it is strong and swift. You will be remembered.

You mattered - and you always will...

Rest in Peace....

There is no "Carlos", IMOO.

This little angel was even more adorable then I had imagined- RIP darling Kathrine- we will remember you!

I hope Texas justice is everything I believe it to be... harsh and swift.

I see it in the perps demeanor... I don't think, for one moment, this is the first time he has harmed something small and defenseless.

He [witness F. Washington] said Katherina was wearing a brown and pink dress and was carrying a Rottweiler puppy. When Washington asked Sanches-Zenteno about the girl, Sanches-Zenteno told him she was his cousin.

He [witness FW] said that after police arrived and began searching, he saw Sanches-Zenteno on the outskirts of the crowd, wearing a burgundy-colored shirt that he apparently had changed into since Washington saw him earlier with Katherina.

Sanches also placed himself inside a closet or closets in the apartment where she was found:

From the video at link below and here:

Sanches added that "he heard the juvenile complainant begin to cry," the warrant said. "He explained that he then heard the door close and he exited the apartment to see that the neighbors had begun searching for the juvenile. He also explained that he is an 'accomplice' but did not see the juvenile in the apartment after he exited the closet."

Exactly -- except it took you about 20 words to explain it, and it took me about 80! Ummppfff. Brevity is not in me!!

And possibility of parole is just that: "possibility." And I know Texas is tuff.

LOL! I got what you meant. ;)

They are not fans of letting guys like this out. Let's hope it's just a possibility on paper!!

The area of Dallas where this took place is pretty bad....

Oh, it's bad. It's poor, drugs all over, kids get into crime and gangs early, there is a high dropout rate, people loiter and have no direction...there is absolutely crime and it's definitely really rough. With that said, It's not far from really nice places and a lot of people live here to be that close to the nice places. And even though it's rough...THIS is not something people worry about happening to a little one. It's not bad like that.

Yes, I have family about 3 minutes from these apartments. Their home is probably valued at about $500,000. It's also been burglarized 3 times in the last 5 years. They're in the process of putting it on the market and plan to leave the area. The area has seen an increase in home break-ins, car break-ins and there was a serial rapist caught recently. This had everyone on edge for several months.

At one point the Richardson Independent School District was one of the highest rated public school systems in Texas. People moved there for the quality education for their children. It's sad to see how much the area has changed in 20 years.

I graduated from Richardson High in 1963. It was and is still a great school. At that time Lake Highlands was just being developed. I am actually surprised they are calling this Lake Highlands as it is a distance from the Lake Highlands with the great nice houses I know. Now having said that, I don't know what the school district has to do with anything. I don't want to go into reasons for the decline in this area. I don't want a timeout.

I also don't think there are accomplices in Texas. If you are there you are just as guilty as the person who actually committed the act. jmo

So was the shirt she was hanged with the one he'd been wearing earlier?

Police said he lived in the apartment next to the vacant one where Katherina was found, but neighbors said he had been illegally squatting in the vacant apartment.
Washington said he’d seen Sanches-Zenteno on the patio with two dogs.
“It looked like somebody lived there,” he said.
Thompson, 35, said Sanches-Zenteno had previously lived at the complex but had moved. She said she saw him staying in the vacant apartment when he came to visit.
Thompson, who sometimes stays with an aunt who lives at the complex, said she had befriended Sanches-Zenteno.
She said she sometimes drove him on errands to buy cigarettes or pay his phone bill. He had a 2-month-old daughter and worked in lawn service, she said.

I was replying to another post about the area, neighborhood etc. Perhaps you're thinking of the houses in Old Lake Highlands near White Rock Lake?

This is considered North Lake Highlands by some and it's also part of the Richardson School District. The point I was making is that families, my family member included, chose to live there to give their children the best education possible. Whether they're from the half million dollar homes or the modestly priced apartments. Little Kathrine had just started school. :(

He has a 2 month old daughter?? Wow. Where is this baby, I wonder? In the country, or back home?

Why would he be squatting if he had a home? Is it because he is illegal? Was that his way of hiding?

I read that he had been living there and moved out but was staying in the vacant apartment.

He can't legally rent an apartment at 17. But I wonder if that's his real birthdate, name etc.
