Even if he tried to rape her it is still a drug related crime.

Nothing to indicate she's into drugs? You mean besides the fact she was murdered in the middle of a drug transaction?

You can minimize marijuana as no big deal til the cows come home but it doesn't change the fact that messing around with it is just as dangerous as getting involved in other drugs.

She wasn't just smoking a joint on her own couch. Have you even read this thread?

You can get killed over a damn roach under the wrong set of circumstances. The drug world is extremely chaotic. There's no set limit of drugs/money and if you go over that, you risk getting murdered.

Not for weed? Really? Just because everyone(generally speaking) is doing it and its 'legal' in several states doesn't make it safer. It actually increases the danger. Higher demand, higher supply. High grade marijuana means the product is worth more to those involved.

Indeed.

I understand why a lot of people are against this being brought up. A LOT of people do this now. They would rather have the ugly side of the current drug fad stay buried.

Neither was I. At 14 I started smoking weed, cigarettes, and was already drinking. I had been sexually active for two years.

It doesn't mean I'm going to close my eyes to what went on in this tragedy.

If you ignore the details of what led to the murder of a 14 year old girl....what can be learned from it?

AMEN to every word of this post.

I think I understand NOW why mom went looking for her within a half hr......

I read early on that housing complex was middle class to upscale.. how very wrong that report was.

Haven't been here for a while and just learned that this girl was murdered during a drug deal. Yeah, she was 14 and he is 16 but they were buying, manufacturing and selling drugs. So, while it is sad that both of their lives are over it just reinforces the reality that fooling around with any kind of 'drugs' is dangerous. Yep, people get killed during drug transactions every day of the year.

Oh well. No one will learn anything from this, idiots will continue in their drug trades, people will die, their survivors will grieve, the jails will fill up and the rest of the world will go on happily without missing a beat.

I think I might be missing something...<modsnip>

Eta: when I got in trouble as a teen it had nothing to do with my family...they were clean and conservative as a whistle...it was I who got off track due to nothing to do with them. Peer pressure, wanting acceptance, experimenting, rebelling, etc. So, imo, one can not always blame the parents because mine did nothing wrong.

Respectfully, the apartment complex IS in a middle to upscale (but not mega rich) neighborhood. I know because I live in Bedford & have for years. I guess the easiest way to explain the situation is that the complex & surrounding area looks as innocent & wholesome as Kaytlynn looked. Matter of fact, I posted just a few days ago that if I were in the market for illegal drugs there would be lots & lots of places I would go before even thinking of looking there. I suppose that the looks of a teenager & a particular area of town can be very deceiving. I think that is something that most of us, me included, need to reconsider when making judgments about people or places.

One other thing that I want to say about the city of Bedford. Not only do we have a good police presence. We also have Neighborhood Patrol vehicles out on the street. These vehicles look just like a Police Vehicle except for the signage but they are manned by civilians who alert the police if problems arise. I actually give the city an A+ in making every effort to keep us safe.

People always want to blame someone.

Kaytlynn is a nun compared to me at her age. Thank God I made it out of the terrible situations I put myself in.

Huh! She is clearly involved in the manufacturing process of drugs as per the affidavit (there were also some locals implying selling on a now-closed group). She directly contributed to poisoning of other kids. At which part of the universe this is called an "ANGEL"?

I don't see life as black and white. She can be both, a drug dealer, and an angel.

What is the purpose of this discussion. This child was murdered with a hammer and thrown in the garbage. She made some mistakes. And our efforts here seems to be time spent disagreeing over whether or not she deserves angel status? Hardly victim friendly, imo.

She's an angel in my book.

I don't get the impression that anyone here at WS is blaming her family.

It's obvious that she was into drugs before she met up with the killer.

She could very well have been influenced by her peers -- that's the usual avenue for kids who make unfortunate choices in life.

There are no winners here !!

No one is perfect... and my utmost condolences to her family - <modsnip>

I'm curious if her mom or stepdad had a premonition about the murderer's reputation ? Even though he hadn't lived there very long ?

  • #872
Possibly, but it's also possible that they suspected 'something' was up either because Kaytlynn had given them a reason or just because her mom was overprotective. Just guessing.

  • #873
Or a concerned neighbor or friend who stayed home all day may have alerted mom that they suspected something was going on. I'll swear, when I was a teen & did anything that I shouldn't, my mom knew all about it before I ever got home. Kids are often not a devious as they think.

This is just my thinking but I think its possible MoM was having problems with her daughter.
Summer School, maybe she was aware of the pot smoking ,, maybe not selling it.... She could have known when her daughter didn't come back she was off meeting these friends..
and went in search for her.
Its obvious she felt something was wrong.

I agree! I don't think mom was just another uninvolved, uninterested, neglectful parent. Motherly instinct told her something was not exactly right.

I personally think mother suspected K went to meet someone she shouldn't have been meeting. From the beginning there was talk that K went to meet some "friend." That 16 year old sounds like bad news, and it doesn't sound like a parent would want their child to hang around him.

If he's released, he (J.R.) could be a flight risk.

I agree with you! I'm glad the Judge kept him in police custody.

Mother wanted him released into her custody? He wasn't even living with mother when this happened, why exactly does she think he should be released into her custody?
