GUILTY TX - Leiliana Wright, 4, beaten to death, Grand Prairie, 13 March 2016

One "takeaway" from this case, if this outrages you, is become a CASA volunteer. If you're really touched by this child's horror story, know that CASA volunteers can help save the next child. Court Appointed Special Advocates, or volunteer "guardians ad litem".

Sounds great, but not all of us have the physical stamina or perhaps not even the personality to deal with this type of job.

Mom got out of prison and then got custody (despite her obvious issues). Grandparents were raising the child until mom got out of prison. What difference does it make where the biodad was? He wasn't the one raising the child until mom got out of prison. He wasn't the one suing for custody. Why did this woman got custody? She had criminal record, she had issues with drug use. I don't think anybody would give her any children if she was trying to adopt. But it's her bio child, so she can do as she pleased. Why didn't CPS remove the child from bio mom's custody? It should have been obvious to anyone with a brain that bio mom wasn't fit and it wasn't going to end well for the child.

amen to that!

http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews....cials-involved-in-leiliana-wrights-case.html/

From this list of family names, Leiliana was born when the mother was in a Txas prison. It does not sound like the parents of Leiliana were ever married. The father must not have been in a position to raise the child (who knows why, but at least he realized his parents were a better choice) The grandparents raised her for the two remaining years of mother's incarceration. When she got out, the grandparents tried to get custody, but were denied and the child went to live with her mother.

The child was again removed (possibly for a few months?) from the mother when meth was found in her car (no indication of where she stayed that time), but was again returned to mother when the charges were dropped and she had clean urine test for drugs. http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews....gency-failed-at-every-turn-records-show.html/

For unknown reasons, the father was to have no contact with Leiliana at the time she was awarded full custody of the mother. She had visitation scheduled with bio grandmother (mother of bio father) which excluded the father from being present. You can form your own suspicions as to why he was excluded, I find nothing conclusive regarding the reason. Nevertheless, the grandparents did their very best to protect and give love to Leiliana.

From the Judge's order regarding custody in December 2014:

Grandparents tried to get custody but couldn't even get a hearing. Mother got custody despite being recently released from prison.

"“We never got the chance to go and see this judge,” said Alisa. “She didn't let us step into her courtroom, because we were grandparents."

I don't know how many other children this woman had, but apparently other children were removed from her by a judge's order. Poor little girl was born when mother was in prison. Yet when this woman got out of prison, judge in TX just gave her custody, no problems. The mind boggles.

"In 2008, Quezada was arrested for driving with alcohol and was later arrested again on a drug charge. Two years later, an Illinois judge took away her children. She also arrested for felony burglary in 2010."

There was also an 18 month old boy, whose father was the boyfriend arrested for Leiliana's death.

On the morning of the girl’s death, Quezada was at the home of her boyfriend, Charles Phifer. The couple went into the bathroom to shoot up heroin, leaving Wright with the couple’s 18-month-old son in the living room.

No, she had children removed from her in Illinois, according to the link that I posted. That was before she had Leiliana and 18 month old boy.

My apology, you are right!

From your link:

In 2008, Quezada was arrested for driving with alcohol and was later arrested again on a drug charge. Two years later, an Illinois judge took away her children. She also arrested for felony burglary in 2010.
Leiliana Wright was born in prison in January 2012 and custody was given to her paternal grandparents. But in December 2013, Quezada regained custody of the 4-year-old.

(and the youngest son is now about 18 months old)

Gaah! This just gets worse all the time.

Leiliana was born in a Galveston hospital in January 2012, while her mother, Jeri Quezada, was serving a six-year prison sentence for burglary.
Clakley said he and his wife took the baby to their home.
“We were told that if somebody in the family didn’t take the baby, then the baby would go into the [state] system,” Clakley said. “We felt like the baby needed to be raised by a family.”
When Quezada was released in 2013, Quezada gained custody of the girl and went to live with a boyfriend in Rendon, Clakley said.

While Leiliana was an infant, the Clakleys continued to support Quezada, sending her money and driving Leiliana to the prison in Gatesville for visits. Clakley’s son was not in a financial position to take care of the little girl, Clakley said, but he later became more involved in her life.
“We didn’t want to say, ‘We’re the parents now, you’re not,’ ” Clakley said.

Is a Family Attorney Blaming the Judges for Toddler Leiliana Wright’s Death?

Grandparents original affidavit regarding parent-child relationship November 2014
Apparently the newborn boy was tested positive for marijuana. Many heartbreaking allegations are in the affidavit.
If marijuana is all the newborn tested positive for, he is lucky. In the day Leiliana died, mother and her boyfriend were reportedly using heroin.

Just wanted to point out that 18 month old isn't the son of the current boyfriend, so that article is wrong. He is the son of the ex-boyfriend (the one accused of child molestation).
So far what we know of the case-
this woman lost custody of her older children (judge ordered them removed).
She got pregnant and gave birth the victim while in prison.
Grandparents were raising the victim until mother got out of prison, at which time she promptly got custody back.
She moved in with a boyfriend, got pregnant. That boyfriend was accused of child molestation.
So she found herself another boyfriend (the one involved in victim's case).
Did judges and CPS ever considered what should have been obvious to anyone-this woman isn't fit?
If this woman tried to adopt, one would think she would have been laughed out of court. But with her bio child she can do as she pleases.

According to the affidavit, Eddie Soto is the baby's father. The baby is named David Christian.

According to my searches last night, one page that I cannot recall, nor would it be a link WS would allow, there were three other daughters to Jeri Quezada. I cannot confirm this, either.

Here's the bad news:

Heroin-addled Texas mom and her boyfriend fatally beat her daughter because the little girl drank her brother’s juice

BY Tobias Salinger
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

A Dallas-area mom and her boyfriend fatally beat her daughter after the 4-year-old girl drank her brother’s juice, documents revealed Thursday.
Jeri Quezada, 30, and her boyfriend took heroin before they hit Leiliana Wright with a bamboo stick and a belt earlier this month in Grand Prairie, according to an arrest affidavit cited by The Dallas Morning News.
Leiliana died from her injuries just after midnight in a hospital March 13, and the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office has ruled her cause of death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to her stomach and head.
