TX - Levi Thornton-Smith, 2 mos, stabbed to death, Houston, 17 Nov 2015 *Arrest*

A judge read the capital murder charge against Rochelle Brown, 28, overnight. She is accused of killing her infant, Levi Thornton-Smith, early Tuesday morning at an apartment on Windmill Lakes Boulevard.

The prosecutor said Brown, who was living with her sister, began fighting with her. Levi was in her arms. The prosecutor said Brown put Levi on the bed and grabbed a knife, swinging it at her sister. When her sister went to call the cops, the prosecutors said Brown turned the knife to her son and started stabbing him in the abdomen over and over again. Brown's sister was unable to overpower her to get her to stop.

"(The mother) kept saying, 'I need Jesus' and pacing. She didn't seem to know where she was," [a neighbour] told abc13. He also says her hands were covered in blood.

A homicide detective says Brown was taken to Ben Taub Hospital for observation because of her mental state before she was released to police...

Brown's two other sons were asleep in a bedroom and were unharmed.

[Rochelle Brown] was supposed to appear in court Thursday, but we learned she was so combative the bailiff thought she might hurt herself, and she had to be taken back to her cell...
Neighbors said Brown and her three kids had recently moved to Texas from Nebraska. The deceased baby's great-grandmother said she thinks Brown may have killed her child to get back at the baby's father.

"I really feel that this was done to get after him because we didn't know she was leaving. She never brought the kids by," the baby's great-grandmother said.
