It appears she was out of town during the disappearance. So directly involved? Likely not. But to me she is one of too many women who subject their vulnerable children to the "care" of "mama's new man", enabling and requiring these unrelated males to discipline and provide extensive care to these young children.

Too often it's a recipe for disaster.

And this is not a case where nothing happened and suddenly child goes missing or died while in new daddy's care. Nope. This child had a life-altering and highly suspicious brain injury already, such that doctors reported the injuries as possible abuse. The children were temporarily removed from her care. And she still left her now even more vulnerable child, alone in the care of her new man?

I'm very tired of these cases. They follow a formula in which the romantic needs take precedence over the right to life of the children involved.
I completely agree with everything you've said and I'm tired of it too! There are some missing details as to how/why DV had MD, though. No link, unfortunately. MOO

A Walmart parking lot? Looks more like a strip center with smaller retail.
And the car isn’t parked haphazardly but nicely within the spaces.

I noticed that too, nor was it backed in or hidden.

Ugh - If the kids were currently staying with an aunt, there is a good chance that aunt also traveled for her fathers memorial services last week.
So perhaps they were left with DV. All speculation.

I'm with you, @gitana1 - I'm tired. And it seems never ending.

I believe LE has this and since Sunday

I don't trust her.....she basically didn't speak to her child for 3 days, maybe longer.

She’s a known child-abuser.
When is it appropriate for a mom to leave her children in the care of a person with no connection to the child?
Why would any woman want her boyfriend to bathe & dress a little girl? Smh. I would not walk to my mailbox leaving my children with a boyfriend.
Moo

Me too. In addition to her grief, when she was near the car, I also saw anger. Like she was trying to give DV the benefit of doubt, but finding the car proved he is lying.

Her kid already suffered a massive brain injury while in her care. Under what specific circumstances I don't know but she told the hospital it was an accident and they didn't believe her. And her kids were removed.

They couldn't prove anything so kids were returned. And she leaves her now profoundly (apparently) disabled daughter with her new man.

Was he alone with her when this previous "accident" occurred? Was she there when it happened? Either way, I have a problem.

She was probably busy dealing with her dad's funeral. There were probably many friends and family there that she hadn't seen in a while.
I think she wanted to believe the stepfathers story but she was already beginning to doubt him when he would not return her phone calls. Now she knows for sure. Imo

KHOU on the live said Texas EquuSearch said they are suspending their efforts at HPD's request. Not sure if that's permanently or just temporarily though.

Maybe LE has info enabling them to find M w/o TES?

Wondering if that is any indication that they found her or evidence of her being deceased in the car :(

This was posted in Cheryl Mercedes's thread; the date of death is a little unexpected but I guess services are not always immediate.

Obituary for Benjamin J Bowens Sr. | Harrell Funeral Home

Thank you. So, we have confirmed a death. Here's what I get when I click on service details at the obit link.

A service summary is not available

An obit doesn't confirm services. Not everyone has a service, so maybe there wasn't one? It's odd that delayed services would not mean waiting until Meleah was well enough to attend, but were held the week she was sick.

Thus far, I see no evidence of a service. The funeral home would have posted information if one happened, or, they would post so ethnic pertaining to the family announcing a memorial service sometime in the future.

I heard that it was "until further notice". If it's not related to weather like it was yesterday, it makes me feel as though they know something that makes the search not worth while

How did the mother come to be at the place the car was discovered? She heard about it and rushed over? Little unusual.

It wasn’t her new man. It was someone she had been with for at a couple of years at least. She has a child with him and he appeared to be an active parental figure from sm. I’m sure she trusted him with her kids. It’s easy to act like you’d never leave your kids alone with your partner. But this was a funeral not a planned vaca.

:( I think we all know what that means.

Also, if that shopping center has a bank it, there should be excellent cameras covering all angles.
