For those confused like I was, Bray’s Bayou is a river and it does go by her complex but also all the way through Houston to the east side.

"
This is heartbreaking.

Please keep Maliyah Bass in the forefront of your thoughts and prayers. The men and women of @houstonpolice will move quickly to ascertain the identity of this child and cause of death. In the event of fowl play we will do all we can to seek justice."

I respect Chief Art but I don't believe any birds were involved. (Just my poor attempt at levity in a terrible situation.)

I wonder if she was just found by chance or someone talked? Really wondering about all those RSO’s in her complex.

Yes, it starts over in Ft Bend County (SW) and ends at the Ship Channel (SE.) You can launch kayaks/canoes in certain parts. It flows east.

I'll reserve speculating until more info is released by LE/ME. It doesn't take but a few seconds for a child to disappear. We're not all super-human parents and grandparents. We get comfy in our surroundings and routines and with that, we sometimes let our guards down while "real life" happens. Moreover, if homicide investigators are out there, odds are there are reasons to believe someone took and harmed Tootie. That someone could have very well planned this ahead of time by simply being familiar with the family and their routine.

Is it possible then she stumbled in near her home, and the current carried her to this location at 5200 Carrolton?

This or the added stress of quarantine child-minding made someone lash out. She was just 2. :(

I think someone talked, and I certainly have someone in mind.
Amateur opinion and speculation

I don't personally believe so simply because these are natural waterways and slow-moving I would think due to the amount of rain at the time. *But* I am not a Houston waterway expert and always declined invitations to kayak in them due to my irrational fear of bugs. There looks to be a small watershed/body of water in Arthur Storey park (just north of her complex) and if you use the satellite view it is separated by a culvert to the bayou. She would have had to exert her little self to get to the bayou from her apartment playground, imho. This is all my humble opinion.

HPD: Child found dead in Brays Bayou
This was just posted 25 minutes ago and it is saying they are not sure if it is her that has not been confirmed yet. I know that Brays Bayou runs close to the apartments she was last seen at but is there access to it from the apartment playground? I would think it would be fenced off so that things like a child falling in couldn't happen. Most likely with the rainfall amounts the water would be somewhat elevated and the current would be moving faster than normal so I'm thinking it could be possible for a child to fall in and be swept away that far over night.

At the moment I'm betting on foul play. The bayou isn't far from the apartment complex but to get to it Maliyah would either have had to walk due north through the complex and a green area or else cross a very busy highway - Sam Houston Tollway - according to Google maps.

Either way she'd have walked through fairly populated areas without being seen. Plus, the apartment complex appears to have a perimeter fence so she'd have to navigate a complex path. I guess it could happen but...

Recent press conference w/ HPD Chief: "We need to bring justice to this family. I'm highly confident that foul play is involved in this case." Also asking for Ring footage, house or business security camera footage by the bayou. Asking anyone jogging near the bayou or upstream that if they saw any suspicious vehicles or individuals in the past 24-36 hours to call Homicide or Crime Stoppers.
