I hate to say it but probably leaving Maliyah by herself wouldn't have put her at risk because she was already deceased. I'm not sure how she died but she may have been dead before entering the bayou. It could be one of the reasons why the AR hasn't been released.

I hope LE have been actively interviewing everyone who lives in that apartment complex to get an idea of what was going on in that home.

Anyone know how long they had been living in that apartment? Just moved in or just getting ready to move out?

Just wondering about furniture in the apartment.

Yes, if the body was found floating it may indicate there was still air in the lungs as opposed to the lungs filling with water as a result of drowning. I think she was likely deceased before she was put in the water in an attempt to hide the body. Imo

Why did both of them have to go leaving Maliyah alone?
Somewhere upstream there is a quote from the BF, saying they both went to the store together because it is unsafe to walk alone. But that angered me, as they left a baby home alone late at night. How safe is that????

What really bothers and confuses me, is the length of time it took to 'identify' her remains.

How could that be, if she was found so quickly after going missing Saturday morning? Her body was found floating on Sunday morning.

What it really be decomposed and unidentifiable in 24 hours?

It could be that the practice of this jurisdiction is that remains are not "positively identified" until DNA analysis has been done showing genetic affinity with a close relative. IMO a lot of jurisdictions consider dental and visual identification as secondary these days. Possibly there was a delay with this if close relatives were reluctant to provide a DNA sample for their own personal reasons.

For all practical purposes, they "knew" it was Maliyah as soon as they found her because no other child of that age and physical description had been reported missing. So the identification delay is wrapped up in other procedural reasons IMO.

I believe mom moved from Michigan only a few months before, but not sure how long they were living in that apartment.

Something is up for sure. It would seem they are needing additional data/expertise to back up a claim?

amateur opinion and speculation

The silence is deafening.

Probably just getting all the data ducks in a row. In a large metro area like Houston it probably takes quite a while to weed through all the data from cell towers, get CCTV, etc.

Some updated info on this article, maternal grandma is interviewed:

Justice walk planned for dead 2-year-old after a month with no answers

“We still don’t know the cause of death for Maliyah, so family wants a few answered questions,” said Rosalie Jimerson, Maliyah’s grandmother.

And....

“I talked to Sahara a couple of days ago,” said Jimerson. “She said she misses Maliyah. She said she’s sad…just a lot of crying.”

Jimerson says she used to take care of the toddler for up to several months at a time, but police say the little girl was with her mom when she vanished.

“She hasn’t deterred from her story,” said Jimerson, referencing her conversations with Sahara. “That she took Maliyah to the park around 8 or 9ish, she stepped away for a few minutes, and when she turned back, Maliyah was gone.”

Well, this leaves me confused. Because the biological father said in interview that Houston PD called him at 7 AM to ask if Maliyah was with him. I know it isn't a time zone difference since bio dad lives in Dallas. But it was a very chaotic morning maybe someone else is confused.

“It’s been a painstaking wait for answers for Jimerson, who was one of Maliyah’s primary caretakers.”

Maliyah is only two years old and her grandmother would keep her for months at a time? Months? Not a weekend or a few days a week while mom worked. What was the reason for keeping her for months?

And Maliyah has only been in TX for a few months.....

In some cultures where people have kids very young it's quite common for the grandmother to basically raise them the way her mom raised her kids.

It's interesting you mention this (timeline) given what grandmother says.
