Family friend of missing TTU grad asks community for help
A family friend, [ML], who lives in Lubbock, kept in close contact with the Gutierrez family throughout the day as they began the search.

"The detectives are out there. They have the helicopters out there. They have had the dogs get his scent on clothes from him," said [ML]. "They are all over Rainey Street and that area, just trying to find some sort of information."

"He would never do this intentionally. He didn't run away. He isn't doing this as some call for help. This isn't Martin. Something's wrong, and we are trying to figure it out," she said.

Inevitably given the recent influx of new visitors, crime activity has increased correspondingly in what once was a quiet residential enclave. According to CrimeReports.com, there have been 56 incidents of crime in the district during a mere two-week span from Nov. 7-21.

Martin Gutierrez was caught on surveillance video running and on the phone, leaving the bar Alibi. His next stop was possibly Unbarlievable, but he never made it there. "Either way, we know that at some point, he was looking for a ride home and he never made it home," [WR] said.

Investigators think what happened between Alibi and Unbarlievable -- that may hold the key to where Martin Gutierrez is now. "Right now, we're just going on location and this is a nearby area, and so we're starting here," said the detective.

I am really interested in his living situation and how well he knew the area where he was last seen. I hate these missing young men cases. I have young men in my family that I dearly love. It’s easy and frightening to put myself in the family’s shoes as they frantically search for answers. Unfortunately there are lots of opportunities for this young man, Martin Guitierrez, to have accidentally made his way to water. I pray he is found safe somewhere else.

According to the article below, he moved to ATX in January. Not sure where he moved from. Also haven't seen anything yet regarding his place of employment. Hoping he is found safe!

Martin Gutierrez graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2017 with a degree in business.

"He loved accounting for some reason. He did. He could crunch numbers I could never, you know," his brother said.

Martin moved to Austin in January.

Twenty-five-year old Martin Gutierrez was last seen in the Rainey Street entertainment district early Monday between 1:00 and 2:00 am, after a night out with friends.

“They said they had gone home early. they had to work in the morning as well. Martin stayed back to get a ride and everything,” said Mitchell Gutierrez, Martin’s brother.

“I tried to track his phone it was off, there was nothing we could find there. I tried getting into his Uber to see if maybe he got a lift home or to a friend’s, credit cards, debit cards,” said Gutierrez.

Martin's friends told Mitchell they last visited a bar called The Alibi before heading home.

"The last call that was made on his phone was, according to his phone records, at 1:27 a.m., calling for a ride," he said. "That's the last I heard about him or him being safe."

According to Mitchell, the call Martin made was to request a ride from a friend, but the friend was working and was unable to pick him up.

When Mitchell woke up Monday morning, he didn't find Martin in his room.

I’ve seen several fb posts by his cousins, aunts, etc. They are all out looking for him.

Police, family continue search for man last seen on Rainey Street

"Martin Gutierrez works as an assistant manager at One Main Financial. He is originally from Big Spring and has lived in Austin for 11 months.

Members of his family have talked to all of the friends Gutierrez went out with Sunday night. They said the last thing they remember is him calling a friend for a ride.

Mitchell Gutierrez said there was no indication he tried to call a ride through a ride-hailing service. “Each minute hurts,” he said."

How did they know his next possible destination (Unbarlievable) after the Alibi bar? Is that where his friend was working still, at 1:30 a.m. when Martin called for a ride? Was he headed toward Town Lake? Town Lake is just minutes away, walking south from the Rainey District. It would take him about ten minutes to walk to Town Lake, and Unbarlievable is on the way.

He was running while on the phone?!?!?! For what, or should I say, from what?

No one else has said anything about him running while he was on the phone so glad you did. I thought I must've missed an important part of the story. Now to see that apparently I didn't, what IS that all about? In what scenario is it NOT alarming to have a missing person possibly inebriated and near water at night near bars to then be seen running and while on the phone no less?? No unidentified 911 hangups that night I'm guessing sooooo....
