It just seems like whatever happened to Martin, happened right there on Rainey Street, there’s just no reason for him to have ventured away from that area - toward the water or east of IH 35 (which can be a quick transition to unsavory).

Yes, I've lived in the area for a while. Town Lake really isn't that far from the Rainey Street area.

Incidentally, Martin's disappearance is reminding a lot of the locals of another strange story. A few years ago, a young man vanished from another nearby, downtown entertainment district (Sixth Street) in Austin. Apparently, this other young man ended up in East Texas after being "taken" there by some people from the Church of Wells. He was gone for about five days before his family was able to "negotiate" with the Church of Wells for his release:

You know this one reminds me of the handsome young 20 something who went missing after acting weird in a bar and then he blew out the candle and said something in cryptic Spanish (I think) to his FB. He was found in water a few weeks later. I don’t remember the details bc I’m old.

"As of Nov. 25, Gutierrez's family was searching the Zilker Park area for him. They are also trying to get more surveillance footage.

The family has increased the reward they are offering for information from $5,000 to $10,000."

Zilker Park is on the other side of Town Lake (aka Lady Bird Lake).

I read about the church of wells and this man also. It does make you wonder. It would be wonderful if Martin was found and brought home too.

Given the new info about him being on his phone and acting weird, I would think the phone records are key here.

Have they been able to access his phone? Did he have an iPhone? Have they accessed his social media accounts? Maybe he was rushing out to answer the phone? I did that just the other day, because I received a work related phone call and couldn’t hear in the restaurant.

So sad and just ... bizarre. I feel like there have been so many of these cases lately where a young man is drinking/socializing normally with friends or family, is seen on surveillance video walking away and seemingly vanishes!

I know his brother has a girlfriend and he lived with them. I wonder what is Martin’s romantic situation. Could he have been meeting up with someone via a dating app like Tinder?

I just hate this.
If he IS in the water of Town Lake, he should be easily found, no? It’s not that big, right? I am reluctant even typing about that possibility, but it would answer the agonizing questions his family has. I just really hate this.

I think the last video (from Fox News) showed, on a map, that his phone last pinged at Alibi. His brother tried to access his Snapchat but mentioned Martin wasn't very active on social media.

Nowhere has any romantic relationship been mentioned. Just friends. The person he called for a ride was a female friend. An earlier article mentioned the friend couldn't pick him up because she was working. That was his last phone call, at 1:27 a.m., and since then, nothing.

Coco, Town Lake is part of the Colorado River and is quite large. Central Texas just experienced severe lake and river flooding in the recent months so the lake levels are still high and water currents flowing fast. In fact, just a few hours ago Austin EMS rescued a person stranded on an island in Town Lake-which has been re-named Lady Bird Johnson Lake:
