From many paragraphs down in the Outside article: "a buddy of mine, Colin Strickland".

I came here to comment about this, but see others have already noted the controversy. There's a lot of writers and journalists that I have great respect for in the endurance sport/cycling world, and more than one have recently made comments about this article's bias and the possibly lax editorial controls at Outside following recent mergers and layoffs of staff. (Sources: twitter, cyclingtips.com [now owned by Outside], dcrainmaker.com, among others).

As an amateur cyclist, I hate the way this tragedy portrays cycling and cyclists to the general public. When you throw in the completely unrelated freak accident that claimed a racer's life last August (Kenyan cyclist Sule Kangangi killed in crash at Vermont Overland gravel race), gravel racing in particular is in a seeming recovery mode. Until lately t's been a grass roots sport that is now struggling with the influx of former World Tour riders and the UCI now wanting to promote and manage major gravel cycling events worldwide.

The Outside article didn't particularly bother me personally; the drama didn't hook me. It seemed more in line with Outside's many offerings about flawed/damaged athletes and adventurers.

I live in Austin and was more intrigued by the timeline of who was where when. But yeah, intimate details, ick.

On a bike ride last week it occurred that one of the reasons or maybe THE reason for KA/CS to invest in properties in Lockhart (besides lower real estate prices) is the stellar gravel riding straight from town -- many miles of low to no traffic on unpaved country roads.

I found the article interesting for the broad sweeps

Obviously trial depends on testimony and not third hand reporting

I suspect if genders were reversed in this case, we'd be hearing more about a controlling, manipulative personality who wormed their way in, and was not prepared to give up control.

Exactly this. If the murderer was a man who used kindness and thoughtfulness as a covert way of controlling the relationship...and the woman knew he wasn't the one and was wanting out...

Yup. And statistically, is more often the case than not...

In addition to being a commemoration, the Ride for Mo event will serve as a fundraiser to benefit Kingdom Kids, a Vermont-based charity dedicated to the enrichment of children's lives of children through outdoor recreation.

"This event is about bringing the community together with gratitude for life and inspiring each other to face the hard climbs together," the foundation states on the website.

In an effort to reach the cycling community far and wide, the Ride for Mo will consist of a mountain ride, a gravel ride and a virtual ride on the Wahoo RGT platform.

For those wishing to join the mountain bike and gravel rides in Lyndon, VT, event registration opens on February 24.

June

Texas v. Kaitlin Armstrong: A Texas woman allegedly murdered a perceived romantic rival and fled the country for Costa Rica, only to get caught and dragged back stateside for trial. Victim Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson was professional cyclist who started a brief relationship with fellow cyclist Colin Strickland. Strickland has said, however, that this happened when he was in the middle of a break with longtime girlfriend Kaitlin Marie Armstrong. Strickland got back to together with Armstrong, who prosecutors say carried out a plot to shoot and kill Wilson. Trial is set to start June 26, 2023.

With the publication of the article in their March print edition this week, two months after the January online version, Outside has admitted they should have better disclosed Dille's relationship to CS. In the printed edition, Dille now expands on his connection to CS and attempts to make the case that he was an objective reporter. The online edition has been updated as well. I would have still preferred to see the Dille/CS relationship be clarified right away upfront but it's worth re-reading to see if the changes make a difference.

We received our copy of Outside and I'll be reading the updated article in the next few days. Not expecting much new info.

Armstrong, who drastically altered her appearance while on the run from authorities last year, expressed little emotion during the pretrial hearing, according to photos taken inside a courtroom at the Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center.

Armstrong, 34, was arrested last summer and charged with killing her then-boyfriend’s fling in an entangled love triangle.

Armstrong allegedly killed Wilson, 25, in a jealous rage after she discovered her longtime boyfriend Colin Strickland, also a pro cyclist, dated the victim while on the outs with Armstrong, according to police.

During Thursday’s court date, Armstrong was uncuffed and sported a red prison garb top and loose black and white striped pants with her hair in a braid.

She had her hands behind her back as she and her lawyers faced the judge and held a thick stack of papers at one point.

A Travis County judge said Thursday that the high-profile murder case against Kaitlin Armstrong in the shooting death of cyclist Moriah Wilson last year will proceed toward a June 26 trial date.

Armstrong, who appeared in court wearing a burgundy shirt with black-and-white jail pants, told state District Judge Brandy Mueller that she is persisting in her request for a speedy trial. Her defense team had sought a speedy trial last year.

However, defense attorney Rick Cofer told Mueller that he and his team might need to request that the trial be delayed until later this year so they can secure witnesses and other evidence for her defense. Mueller asked Cofer to make such a request by May 1.

Her face…
I think of that saying - there’s just something obvious about emptiness even when you try to convince yourself otherwise.

MOO

A great deal of filler, it would appear. Attempt to disguise high cheekbones?

Because she was... fearful for her life?

Yeah, no.

We are seeing the current image of a defendant that's been without her regimented schedule of Botox injections and healthy cuisine!
