5/9/23

The trial was originally set to begin in October, but was pushed to June 26, 2023. And in a recent hearing in April, Armstrong’s attorney requested another delay. According to the Austin American-Statesman, defense attorney Rick Cofer told District Judge Brandy Mueller that he and his team requested the trial be delayed again so that they could secure witnesses and other evidence for Armstrong's defense.

The new court date has been scheduled for October 30, 2023. A complete timeline of events can be found here.
___________

Unless the defense's evidence they are gathering includes a cameraman and his film capturing a different shooter, they're going to need more than a time extension! JMO

I'm not understanding trials on the same date. Could she just settle by repaying the company she stiffed + some extra and be done with this? Her lawyers fees are going to be much higher than the bill she walked out on.

Docket still shows that Kaitlin must appear October 30 at 9:15. Hope this doesn't get postponed again.

It's not unusual for the court to docket each case number on the same date that the inmate is being transported from jail. Although both the murder case and the theft are on the docket, the theft case docket does not have KA appearing in court. I expect her lawyer will file an appearance on her behalf, and KA will be ready in holding for courtroom Aux on the first floor. I wonder how many days they've scheduled for jury selection?

I'll be back in Austin as the trial is getting underway. May have to drop in. I wonder if she'll plead out before she goes to trial.

Hope you do drop in if you can and then give us your perspective. TIA if you do.

The way she ran from the charges initially and tried to start a new life makes me think she won't plead.

Dropping in IS tempting but I 'd have to burn up PTO to do it. Maybe on select days only. *pondering*

You know, had the police took care of it when it happened, almost six years ago, maybe, MW would be alive. As a felon, KA would have fever liberties in life. As it stands, a beautiful young woman with a good background took someone's work and didn't pay, and made the conclusion. She is special. Later, she took someone's life. Entitlement. So, she has to go through court for it now.

I agree with every word you said, but unfortunately she would not have been a felon:

The docket says her crime was more than $100 but less than $750:

So would she still have been able to purchase a firearm, since her theft of service was not a felony?

The firearm was purchased for her.

I think so. Not sure, but unfortunately the amount of her theft, though carrying jail time and fines, is not a felony. So it’s possible she could purchase or own a firearm.

But if she’d been a felon it would have been illegal to have or carry one, period.
Right but that theft is not a felony though, is it?

I think we later learned that this theft of service on the docket was just a blip to her record of theft. Judgments recorded in the tens of thousands and collections trying to get ahead of her. I think KA was thinking about CR even before shooting Moriah dead. I dunno -- I kind of get a Kouri Richins vibe from KA. JMO

This case has been off my radar for a bit. Trying to remember things. Did she have prior criminal convictions? I don't have time to go back and look at stuff here and I am drawing a blank right now.

Not in Texas but in the State she previously resided -- I forget too.
