Haha. The reports say she made it a block and a half before they caught her so I don't know to think. I can't believe more video hasn't come out yet.
In 10 minutes, with that stride, she's got to have gone a lot further than 1 1/2 blocks.

Okay, I chuckled watching the escape attempt.

I'm going to need the full 10 minutes.

Me too! I wasn’t expecting her determination! I need the rest! What happened after she almost got over the fence!

On Wednesday morning, Armstrong was taken to a doctor’s appointment by corrections staff in Texas, a spokesperson with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office told CNN.

“As she and two corrections officers were exiting the medical building after the appointment, Armstrong ran,” spokesperson Drew Knight said. “The officers pursued her on foot for approximately 10 minutes without ever losing sight of her.”

Armstrong was captured and taken to a local hospital, Knight said, adding she is now back in the sheriff’s office custody.

Armstrong’s jury trial is scheduled for October 30, according to court records.

Rick Cofer, her attorney, said after a hearing last year that Armstrong “wants her day in court,” and that she “wants a trial.”

“All I can ask of the press here is that you not consider everything told to you by law enforcement as confirmed and reportable facts. Simply put, there’s a lot more to the story than has yet been heard,” Cofer

#NEW: Travis Co. inmate records show Kaitlin Armstrong faces a new felony charge (escape causes bodily injury) after yesterday's attempted escape in South Austin.
@TCSO confirms one of its officers suffered injuries while trying to apprehend her. @KXAN_News

That stinks. Her run was kind of humorous, but not so much when someone was injured. It may come back to bite her.

How will the attempted escape impact Kaitlin Armstrong’s trial?

Former Travis County Prosecutor Alan Bennet said it’s ultimately up to a judge whether to allow information about the attempted escape to be admissible in court.

“Typically our law doesn’t allow or permit evidence of other crimes, bad acts, wrongs to be admissible in the guilt or innocence phase, but there are exceptions,” he said. “The defense will try to do everything they can to keep evidence of other crimes evidence, meaning a jury does not hear that information. But the state on the other hand is trying to get that into evidence.”

He said evidence of crimes in addition to the crime a suspect is on trial for come more into play during sentencing.

“It would impact tremendously in the event that the trial gets to the punishment phase,” he added. “In the punishment phase it’s a much more open field when it comes to what is admissible.”

Ouch …a chain link fence. I bet she cut herself on it and needed medical attention, and that is why she was sent to the hospital. Man, this girl was desperate. And I’m not so impressed now with her athletic ability. I thought she had some type of spider woman capabilities to be able to scale a wooden fence like that! Makes more sense now how she got up it so fast - it was a chain fence. Lol
She looked like Beetlejuice!
This one shows her running around a tree..
(about 18 mark)

It sounds like it was the cop who was injured.

Her hands move far freer than I expected.

Did she slip a cuff?

Yes definitely. But I read they took KA to the hospital afterwards to get checked out.

Maybe defense will luck out and get this excluded at trial. However, KA might end up getting max after conviction because she's a flight risk? IMO she prolly upped her placement level 2x.

Thank you for that video! She definitely does not appear to have handcuffs on after attempting to climb that fence. Could they have slipped off as Megnut asked above?

ETA: Perhaps that was her injury. Maybe as she grabbed the top of the fence, they got caught on the chain link, and the weight of her body worked in her favor and she slithered out of them unintentionally.

I’m glad to know that Travis county restrains alleged murders so securely/sarcasm.

Sounds like someone slipped up on protocol. Did these guys think that this was a date? Why wasn't she shackled? Even pregnant women in jail are shackled for medical appointments.

Even if this was an orthopedic medical appointment as some are suggesting, no reason to spare the defendant who was earlier a fugitive from justice from being re-shackled before exiting the clinic!

Wow wow wow! So she was able to get her hands free and she removed the striped pants. Wish we could see more video footage.

www.kxan.com/investigations/new-vigorous-exercise-thermal-pants-part-of-armstrongs-escape-plan-court-records-reveal/

According to the affidavit, Armstrong fled as she was exiting the rear entry doors of the doctor’s office, was able to manipulate her left hand from the restraints and removed her black and white striped uniform pants.

“She was wearing thermal pants underneath in an effort to disguise her appearance as an inmate,” the affidavit states.
