Kaitlin Armstrong Trial:

Good morning! We are on day two of witness testimony in the murder trial of #KaitlinArmstrong. I will live tweet the highlights below. Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom today.

Yesterday we heard from Mo Wilson's brother, Matthew. Also Caitlin Cash, the friend who found Mo's body and called 911. Also various first responders who arrived on scene, performed life saving measures and collected evidence.

It was an incredibly difficult day for family & friends in the gallery. Listening to the 911 call was heart-wrenching. And the body cam video was unbearable for the family. Mo's father kept his head down & plugged his ears. He later told me "he doesn't need to hear or see that.”

Judge has taken her seat at the bench. Armstrong has just been escorted in. She is wearing a grey pantsuit and a blue blouse. There are three sheriff's deputies surrounding her. She is emotionless as she takes her seat. She is not handcuffed. She was not yesterday, either.

The gallery of the courtroom is full, but not at capacity. Yesterday we saw a lot more spectators and cameras for opening statements. Jury is now taking their seats. The Wilson family has taken their seats behind the prosecutors.

The first witness for today is a continuation from when we left off last year, Homicide Detective Rolando Ramirez, Austin Police Department. Defense begins questioning.

Defense asking about the detective's process when investigating, including if he notes timecodes when he discovers new evidence. Also when he files his reports after investigating a scene. In this case, it appears the detective inadvertently changed the date on his report.

Ramirez talks about his philosophy for investigating murders: Don't let responding officers tell you what happened at a crime, let the evidence tell you what happened at a crime.

From detective: There is no routine/pattern/standard operating procedure for doing things, because every case is different. Defense really trying to grill about if policies were followed in this investigation. Detective saying that every crime scene investigation is different.

Defense questioning why detective didn't take measurements at the crime scene. Like how far the bike was discovered from apartment...how far car was parked from Ring doorbell? Detective says he doesn't find that information to be relevant.

"There's no reason to put it down because that's the way I did it," Detective Ramirez says.

It's interesting to me how well-trained police officers are in testifying in front of a jury. The defense will ask a question, but Detective Ramirez will turn his attention & answer the Q directly to the jury. It's as if he's making eye contact with them all to explain himself.

Detective says that by the time he had left for home after his shift ended, Colin Strickland was the person of interest for this crime. No motive had been identified.

Factors leading Ramirez to believe the murder was personal: No signs of forced entry, clean apartment, victim's phone still left in charger, gunshot wound locations on the victim.

Detective Ramirez is being excused.

Next witness: Caitlan Longoria, Crime Scene Specialist, City of Austin. Responded to the scene on 5/11/22. She was tasked with photographing the scene. She worked from the outside in, taking overall shots and closeups of what she could find.

We're now viewing some of Longoria's photos of the crime scene. State notes a red stain on a cinder block near the bike bag in one of the photos. Longoria, at the time, thought it could possibly be blood.

We see the front door to the apartment, the balcony, a view through the window from the balcony. You can see Wilson's body lying on the bathroom floor. A photo of the lock on the front door, showing no damage or signs of forced entry.

Longoria took more than 400 photographs of the crime scene. We will now look at some of them.We see the bike alley & crime scene tape, the staircase leading to the apartment, the bike bag left outside. There is a cinderblock with a red stain on it next to the bike bag.

KA, sociopath, imo.
Either that, or her attorneys had advised her that looking away or showing distress might indicate guilt to the jury….

No further questions from state. Defense goes now.Defense asks if there was "carelessness" in the report re: who found the blood. Longoria answers that "there could be." Defense continues to grill about the importance of careful and accurate documentation.

State redirect: Clarifying that Longoria writes separate reports than responding officers. Longoria confirms there were other crime scene specialists assisting her. Longoria says to-date, she has not reviewed any other supplemental reports of this crime.

An opened candy wrapper by her right leg
I wonder if Mo came into the apartment, wanted a snack, and grabbed some candy. Probably smiling, memories of a nice day spent swimming. Not a care in the world.

Never in a million years thinking about what was going to happen next.

Agree, and it's the norm for an athlete to eat a candy bar before or after a workout. Suspect, candy plentiful around. moo
