[Maybe] They were being lax about payment on the bus— allowing some to pay on board and she got missed and said nothing.
Snipped for focus.
I still think this would be really dumb. In a foreign country, you have no idea whether LE will board the bus at some point, whether you got the attention of the driver, who is going to ask for what piece of paper.
She could easily have bought the ticket online in advance or at a kiosk in the airport. Maybe she was already on the driver's manifest.

I think she was well-versed in fitting in wherever she is in another culture. A skill she no doubt picked up in her international travel adventures.
Snipped for focus.
She may have been to other countries, but that doesn't mean she was hanging out with locals who are substantially different from herself. Bali is EXPATS. London is ummm English. All big western cities are pretty much alike, and people speak English.
The US Marshal said KA didn't speak any Spanish.

In my experience, there's travel and then there's Travel. There's hopping on a train in Calcutta and hopping on a train in Paris. There's hanging out in a big chain hotel in a European capital and getting on a tour bus to see the sights or there's staying at an African YWCA and seeing the world by mammy wagon.

IMO KA would have been better off in Calcutta or, if she really HAD to do yoga, do it somewhere like Goa or a Greek island almost exclusively frequented by Scandinavians, perhaps Rhodes. South Africa might even have worked. She wouldn't have had a passport issue if she had gone to Puerto Rico or (I believe) the Marshall Islands.

Instead, she picked the most American-friendly country (outside Canada) in the Western hemisphere. She's definitely not an "out of the box" thinker.

So, yah, I don't see KA with much travel experience of the sort that would bring on unpredictability or much discomfort or require major adaptation to "fit in". I don't believe she was the kind that "fitted in", except with other Americans abroad.

Respectfully, I don't agree they are miles apart.

We're not talking about robbing a bank. A smile, some flattery. I think she was well-versed in fitting in wherever she is in another culture. A skill she no doubt picked up in her international travel adventures.

Now that more of her contact with locals is coming out, I think she may have felt less stressed in CR than stateside, despite being on the run. She was in a comfort zone.

She even held back her real name from CR authorities for six hours after being detained. I think that's a pretty cool customer.

Do I agree with her attitude & actions? No. But KA doesn't think like me. Someone mentioned entitlement. But I think it's more than that.

The armchair psychiatrist will take down her shingle now :)

JMO
YMMV

I agree that beginning within weeks of arriving in Costa Rica, KA attempting to teach yoga in exchange for lodging-- to mostly tourists, while MW's murder was in the headlines and KA's fleeing still trending, is hardly miles apart from KA traveling on a local bus, operating as if an unencumbered local guide, without paying the nominal bus fare and bringing the attention of both passengers and LE to herself.

Reportedly, when the youth Hostel owner refused KA's offer for instruction in exchange for lodging, she was eventually allowed to volunteer teach Yoga when the regular instructor was absent.

IMO, an instructor, as opposed to a participant, is certainly placing all eyes on themself, in a setting especially ripe for conversations such as "Doesn't our instructor look like the yoga teacher that's a fugitive from Texas?"

And at more than $20,000 reward for KA's capture, this might be a good incentive for tourists staying in the Hostel environment to speak up.

Been there, done that (in Costa Rica), and the amenities of air conditioning, privacy, and room service are a welcome upgrade! MOO

A source revealed to DailyMail.com Armstrong first arrived at the resort on June 8 when staff repeatedly turned down her requests to work as a yoga instructor.

But they eventually relented and she started helping with the classes when the normal teacher was off as well as doing shifts on the front desk in reception.

Don Jon’s Lodge in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, photographed on Thursday July 7, 2022, is where fugitive Kaitlin Armstrong was caught. At the lodge, two yoga classes are scheduled for every morning and another for every night. When the regular instructor couldn’t make it, Armstrong stepped in and taught. “She was trying to build something where she could instruct yoga there,” said Brandon Filla, a deputy U.S. Marshal.

It’s possible that she has lowered inhibitions. @SteveP is thinking of what he, a logical and normally inhibited person would never risk.

I submit that although we don’t know that the guys on the bus are really certain she rode without paying, it’s possible because of who we’re dealing with.

From personal experience, I’ve seen a female relative take risks which could have and should have fully destroyed her professionally and legally — and nearly did. They went above and beyond anything I would ever dare to do in my wildest dreams, and some were done repeatedly.

She has lowered inhibitions, and also uses immature defense mechanisms, denial and repression. Never mind that the Marshals are looking for her everywhere, let us pretend it never happened.

That actually begs the question--do we have any idea when KA started biking? We talked about how she is a bit of a chameleon. Does anyone know if she had any interest in it prior to meeting CS or is it another aspect of his life that she took on?
This is a very good point.

I actually had a friend who did exactly this, with each new boyfriend she would take on their interests, taste in music, clothing style, hobbies... I have seen her with four completely different looks. Our friendship drifted, hard to stay close with someone that doesn't know themselves.

This would actually fit quite well with KA and could add to her fury at rejection, if she had moulded herself into being the 'perfect' partner for someone by adopting his interests, then along comes MW who sounds like she was genuinely that person with the same passions.

So apart from her short time in Bali, we really know zilch about KA's life before the past 3 years. We don't even know which came first, cycling or CS. No doubt her family, particularly her sister, know a lot, and hopefully we will hear more in due course. I for one would really like to know what makes her tick.

Did we talk about this yet? Is this the Botox-dash charge?

So there was supposed to be a hearing 8 days before the murder. She obviously didn’t show up. Too bad she couldn’t have been jailed for that.

Her character is dubious.

A judge can impose a jail sentence or fines if you are found guilty of failure to appear or contempt of court.

A few years ago, my nephew was caught shoplifting a cheap, generic bottle of Benadryl from Walmart. The family had to hire an expensive attorney, and the prosecutor was pushing for a possible year in County Jail. KA’s is far, far in excess of that. I just don’t get why there were no consequences for her. No wonder she felt she could get away with murder.

GOOD FIND. Any possibility of finding out if this was say, $3,000 or $40,000? Just curious about the amount & throwing numbers out there.

Maybe becoming a landlord, rather than enhancing her financial worthiness may have increased her debt and resulted in defaulting on a credit card.

I see her being called a realtor in MSM but she never sold anything, right?

How else did she earn money? Was the $4,000 she put down on one home she bought her money or somebody else's? I ask because that should be another red flag in the lending process.

Hmmm....looking like a house of cards. And then she commits murder.

Speculation & opinions are my own

Looks like things were already starting to unravel for her, fast. Would there be much info in the docs to download do you think? Reluctant to spend 50 if not

I’m curious and it looked like there was a document guest fee, but I decided not to spend a cent. Whatever it’s about, it won’t hold a candle to a murder charge.

@steeltowngirl

Just figured out, it was not related to the Botox incident, because that was in Austin, and this is Los Angeles Superior Court.
Here’s another:

Too late to edit the above, but I now see the hearing is scheduled for May 3, 2023. DOH!! o_O

Do you think this was related to the Botox charge, or something different?
The case was filed in Los Angeles County, so I am thinking whatever this pertains to occurred while she was living in Cali, which, IIRC would have been at least back in 2017. The suit may more likely be that she was in default on the credit card she left at the desk, which apparently was maxed out. Maybe when she left it, she left it completely. JMO

Thanks. Looks like there are more suits, from what @steeltowngirl just posted….

Well, I suppose that these two lawsuits pertaining to debt collection show that KA did not have an abundance of cash reserves sitting around, hence why she had to sell her vehicle before fleeing.

Do we know when CS gave KA the $450,000 as “investment capital”? Perhaps KA had misled him and was intending to use the funds to pay off her credit card debt? (I am unable to see how much damages are being claimed.)

All MOO.
