Repectfully, just asking.

If there were a mass shooting at a GM factory, and employees wanted to pay respects etc, I do not think their employeer would let them be on the payroll while doing so.

Do we know if all the cops standing there while waiting for the cars to come out of hospital were being paid for that? Are all the cops coming to the cop car to put flowers, are they being paid while they are doing that?

If half of the force is suppossed to be protecting a huge area, and are leaving there areas to place flowers 2 districts over, and something happens on their beat, that is a problem IMO.

Or are they just in their outfits while they are doing these personal things, before or after starting their paid shifts to protect areas??

Private sector will not pay staff to attend to personal things--just wonder if taxpayers are paying for all this. In overtime??

Just wondering................

Random aside: I'm so thankful you guys are here. If it weren't for this discussion mixed in with news reports to search for I think I would be clutching a couch cushion and sobbing uncontrollably. Orlando and everything that's happened since is just too much.

I hear you. I saw the breaking news last night. Came here and read briefly. Then I shut it all down. It is just too much. Today I seem ready to digest this. Hugs to all of you. Such a great group!!!!

The names of the Dallas police officers have not been released, but family members said Dallas Police Officer Patrick Zamarripa died in hail of gunfire.

Zamarripa's grandmother felt uneasy as she watched news reports.

"Gimme the phone," she told a relative. "I got to call Patricio."

Just as bullets started flying in downtown Dallas, Kristy Villasenor took a picture at the ballpark with her 2-year-old daughter. She posted the photo to Facebook and tagged Zamarripa, the girl's father.

Three other DART officers were wounded, but they are expected to recover, Lyons said.

The wounded DART personnel were identified as Officer Omar Cannon, 44, who joined the DART force in July 2009; Officer Misty McBride, 32, who joined in March 2010; and Officer Jesus Retana, 39, who joined in April 2006.

Two civilians were also wounded. One was undergoing surgery early Friday after being shot in the right calf.

The sister of 37-year-old Shetamia Taylor said Taylor was at the protests Thursday night with her four sons, ages 12 to 17. Theresa Williams said when the shooting began, Taylor threw herself over her sons, The Associated Press reported.

This is exactly what I was afraid of last night. BLM is stating this wont stop them and for that I am thrilled, just thrilled. But , just IMO, I really beleive nationwide, it might be better to just wait a day or two.

That blue code, is going to be intense, everywhere- why invite more dispair . Its human, people do not function as well when stressed. At some rally tonight, someone does something that cops on edge feel as problematic and they all go nuts, we are just going to have more and more sadness.

Rightfully we cant stop a march, thank god, but I hope everyone just takes a night or two off. This is a very dangerous place right now. Everything needs a calming time out. IMO

Ferguson was IMO totally not ok as far as LE went. Completly handled wrongly .

People are fragile now, collectivly we are coming off of two AA murdered this week, cops murdered, terrorists over seas going nuts, and a mass shooter going nuts.

Especially in Dallas tongiht - I hope there are no marches, nothing has really been done about about the abuse of power in years - one night of letting it rest is not going to change a lot --pls no marches in Dallas tongiht -- cops are exhausted, its hot, everyones lives are in disruption (crime scene and not being able to go to work) traffic jams casue of all that stuff. Dallas needs to "rest" moo

We need a break imo!

For some reason, the events at the pillar seem to be about 15 minutes after it first started. My belief is that multiple officers were down in moments, shot from above. I am pretty sure things did not escalate from the pillar.

Oh no that's not what I was trying to say, sorry if it was unclear, I was accounting for two officer deaths, and how they MAY have happened if there was only one shooter. One first off, with a careful shot, followed by lots of shooting on a group, then fast movement to escape and the pillar shooting. Which again, that video just rocked me to the core in an awful way. Such a brave, selfless man going to try and stop the killing.

The sniper who killed five Dallas police officers Thursday night was a former Army reservist who posted “black power” images online and told police negotiators in the moments before his death he “wanted to kill white people.”

As the law enforcement community reeled from its deadliest day since 9/11, a troubling portrait emerged of Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, who was blown up by a police robot early Friday morning. Johnson, who is believed to be from the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, told police what made him snap as he was holed up in the El Centro College parking garage in downtown Dallas.

According to a senior U.S. defense official, Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army reserves in 2009 and had one deployment to Afghanistan from November, 2013 to July of 2014. Upon returning, he remained an inactive reserve until May, 2015, when he was honorably discharged.

The whole world will come to Dallas in heart or person, the faces on this tragedy only make it more painful.

I am going to step away for moments of silence..... and hug my kids!

First of Murdered Dallas Cops Identified as Marine Veteran
He was a newly married grandfather, a former U.S. Marine and a veteran cop who had gone to Iraq and Afghanistan to help train local police. But Brent Thompson died protecting the rights of fellow Americans to criticize his brethren in blue.

I've worked for a number of companies where the time would be paid for and a company wide event would be held in remembrance if there was an on the job massacre. One company I worked for even put markers in a little park area to remember employees (current and former) who had died. (It was a pretty young company, though, but had thousands of employees)

A prayer gathering has begun at Thanksgiving Square in downtown #Dallas.

History of Thanks-Giving Square

In 1964, four Dallas businessmen, Oscar Neuhoff, Julius Schepps, John Stemmons and Peter Stewart started to fill a void in the city. They thought back to the great centers of the Ancient World with its squares, hubs of community, gathering places devoted to spirit and worship, and to all that takes humans beyond themselves.

They modified this ancient idea into one that fit our society, one with much greater tolerance and diversity: thanksgiving, the act of giving thanks to the Creator for the gift of life while recognizing the gift of consciousness and care for others. They wanted this city to be known not for its grandeur or its economic prowess, which can change so quickly, but for its heart, which is much more constant. What started as a simple park turned into a center of value, thought, and spirituality that has had an impact not only in this community but in the country and the world.

Much more:

This is stunningly sad and heart breaking. I want to repeat what the police guy on tv said. I think it is SO important today----

Most days, we do not feel support. I am asking that today is not one of those days. Today, we need your support. Please.

And I agree. Today is the day to lead with love. Leave any police bashing at the door today. It is not the time or the place. I think it is extremely sad that most days are days they do not feel support. Thats beyond sad.

This guy was an ex soldier who had an honorable discharge.

There goes the gun control argument. The big shots will have to find something else to blame it on.

How does that even correlate?
