I don't think that he was affiliated with any particular group as far as I've heard. Shep Smith, (who I actually like in spite of who he works for) is getting tidbits here and there about the guy. Saying there is no evidence of specialized sniper training in the Army. Smith is on live in Dallas. JMO

How on earth can a person teach himself how to do something like this?

The Black Lives Matter group called the Dallas attack "the result of the actions of a lone gunman."

"To assign the actions of one person to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible. We continue our efforts to bring about a better world for all of us," the group said in a statement.

bbm, THIS^^^ The same thing should be equally applied the the police, don't blame them all for the bad deeds of one officer's actions.

And that's a problem, and too many people come to the conclusion based only on the name of the movement. The perception people have isn't the reality or the intention of BLM, but it supports their own beliefs and is an attempt, imo, to keep us all at status quo.

The perception is the reality IMO. You are what you say and do. They are talking out of both sides of their mouths but don't take my word for it. Take a look at some of the leaders that are giving praise to Dallas LE and see what they were saying before.

It wasn't that hard, his position, and the fact that many officers were grouped together like sitting ducks, I am sure LE all over will use this as a learning exercise in where and when to allow protests.

The army taught him.

I was in the Army and no way in hell could I pull off something like that. When I first watched I assumed he was trained as a sniper but news outlets are saying that wasn't true. Maybe they've got it wrong but either way I'm still curious about his specific training.

If you missed the Chief Brown speech or the Mayor Rawlings speech at the vigil today, try to find it. If anyone has video of it, please post it. I watched it live and it was really good stuff !

That's brilliant. Wonderful that they know how to put this situation in perspective and place a high value on the Constitutional rights of citizens to speak freely. Really like Police Chief Brown, he should be a role model for all chiefs of police.

OT, didn't we see him in the media last time dealing with the Ebola mess in Dallas? Yes, we did:

But did you see the video of him shooting around the pillars? He was surrounded and kept firing. I don't know how he got out of that with his life.

@NPR

#Breaking update: Law enforcement sources tell NPR evidence suggests suspected shooter Micah Xavier Johnson acted alone.

They also say it appears Johnson had been planning the #DallasPoliceShooting for some time.

Yeah I did he was lucky, first officer should have taken a head shot.

Dunno. He may have practiced somewhere and just been good at it.......and the weapon is so lethal to begin with, but what I can't figure is how selective he was..............glad it did not happen, but its just amazing that scores of people weren't hit. All I have heard about is one woman who was hit in the leg.......Sheesh. JMO

The Truth of ‘Black Lives Matter’

The “Black Lives Matter” movement focuses on the fact that black citizens have long been far more likely than whites to die at the hands of the police, and is of a piece with this history. Demonstrators who chant the phrase are making the same declaration that voting rights and civil rights activists made a half-century ago.

They are not asserting that black lives are more precious than white lives.

They are underlining an indisputable fact — that the lives of black citizens in this country historically have not mattered, and have been discounted and devalued. People who are unacquainted with this history are understandably uncomfortable with the language of the movement. But politicians who know better and seek to strip this issue of its racial content and context are acting in bad faith. They are trying to cover up an unpleasant truth and asking the country to collude with them.

Anyone can do anything and say they're part of BLM. It's not like you need a membership card.

EXACTLY. And that is a big problem. I have watched dozens and dozens of live streams of BLM marches across the country. And many times, the people who take the bullhorns, and lead the chants, are very hateful, racist, types. They call for violence against the cops, they incite violence within the crowd, turning it into more of a mob mentality. If BLM wants to be listened to and taken seriously, they need to call out the violent, militant faction of their movement, and make it known they are not onboard with them. imo

He certainly had the element of surprise on his side, at least in the beginning. With gunshots echoing around all the big buildings downtown, it probably took a little while for officers to figure out exactly where he was.

Are they not doing that?
