Off topic but does anyone know how many posts I've typed and deleted today? I know I can't be the only one.

Too many for me to keep my patience.

You'll notice there are several posters on time outs.

When we say stay on topic that is exactly what we mean.

It doesn't mean because someone else goes off topic it's up to you to quote the post and continue the off topic discussion.

The shooter stated Black Lives Matter was a reason for his shooting.

As long as you discuss BLM in a respectful, reasonable way that's fine. You can express your opinion about whether or not BLM actually has some responsibility in this situation.

If you all start talking about nothing but BLM and get off the topic of the shootings then the thread will shut down.

Thanks Tricia for giving us a little extra patience. We will try not to abuse it. I hope you didn't take my comment as a criticism of the deleting of posts. It was not. I was only referring to the number of times that I SELF-deleted what I was thinking of posting, which was quite a few times, (but perhaps still a few too few I guess :( )

I was about to post that every similar thread to this that I've been on has been shut/locked/closed permanently because of off topic posts and debating. There are countless places to debate the rights and the wrongs of what goes on in this country. This thread is NOT that place.
Thanks Boss, You're a rock star !

This kind of attributing the beliefs or statements or actions of a few to all of BLM is precisely why the grassroots refuses to have actual recognized BLM leaders.

Anyone can call themselves a BLM leader. Doesn't mean they are, much less thst they speak for anyone other than themselves or their own individual group.

Can you point me to where, in my quote, I attributed Rashad Turner's support of Pigs in a blanket chant to "all of BLM"?

Re BBM: For a faux leader, he sure is doing an excellent imitation of one.

Rashad Turner, leader of Black Lives Matter St. Paul, says his group will gather at Falcon Heights City Hall at 2 p.m. The St. Paul NAACP will also be on hand. Turner says he plans to announce an emergency taskforce focused on police accountability and changes in police procedure.

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2016/07/08/falcon-heights-meeting/

But Turner, the most visible leader of Black Lives Matter St. Paul, which is not a nationally recognized chapter, has drawn criticism for protests he has organized in the past month. He has been the subject of intense ire in the last week for the group’s announced plans to “disrupt” Sunday’s Twin Cities Marathon, and some question whether the group’s tactics separate people further rather than spur action. Turner met with the city’s mayor Thursday and said afterward that protesters would not interfere with runners.

http://www.twincities.com/2015/10/0...zer-wanted-to-be-a-cop-now-challenges-police/

Ahhh, not nationally recognized. But obviously recognized as a leader to those, including the media, in St. Paul. Wonder if anyone from one of the nationally recognized chapters of BLM has asked him to cease and desist using the BLM name, after the "Pigs in a blanket" episode.

I will say this, I always support cops. But I have been guilty of thinking to myself "you're a real hero" when getting a speeding ticket....I think from now on I will keep some thank you cards with Starbucks gift cards in my car to give them for all they do. Watching them run/drive in to an area where someone has a vantage point to rain bullets on them from, to try and end the threat...just no words. These are heroes and angels among us. I am really scared for these men and women. If it was my spouse I would be begging them to quit. What will happen if this because something that keeps happening? Will we have enough people wanting to be cops? And I will say, our friends are ok, but that joy is fleeting because I know someone else is carrying a burden of grief.

Sorry if this has been posted - I'm still catching up from posts posted a few hours ago....but a police officer in Missouri was shot today by a driver he pulled over: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/missouri-shot-day-dallas-police-attack-article-1.2704372

"The cop was walking back to his patrol car after ticketing a driver for speeding in Ballwin, a suburb of St. Louis, KSDK reported. The driver got out of his pulled-over car, shot the officer at least once in the neck and fled, sources said."

On MSNBC they're interviewing the guy with the gun during the protest last night. Guy in cammo shirt. He seems like a nice guy. He did the right thing, giving his gun to LE and turning himself in.

His brother called LE and said he was with his brother and they were not involved with the shooting.

FWIW, about the suspect:

"But he didn’t have an especially glowing reputation among members of his unit.

'We all knew he was a pervert cuz he got caught stealing girls panties but murdering cops is a different story,' Wells Newsome, a former bunkmate of Johnson’s, wrote on Facebook.

Luis Canto, another fellow reservist, said Johnson had an erratic personality.

'We all knew he was off, man, but no idea he was capable of that,' Canto wrote on Facebook."

Yes, it would be wonderful if people tried to empathize with the officers who are sent into the streets every night.

What would be wonderful, is if some of the empathy, benefit of the doubt, protection and understanding which has been extended historically to LE would start to be extended to POC. The police always reap these benefits, to the detriment of POC. I'm not saying not to empathize with police, rather, we should recognize that the unequivocal support shown to LE has resulted in these currently hostile, distrustful times. This situation has not arisen out of a vacuum. BLM was born out of the discrepancy of LE activities towards POC vs. whites. Criticism of police does not equal being "anti-police". That people are so reflexively defensive says some are desperate to hold on to the status quo in this country. It's not working out very well. Maybe it's time for a change.

Interesting.

From your article it mentions that his step-mother Is White!!

I wonder what kind of relationship he had with her if he wanted to kill white people?

IMOO.

It's complicated, isn't it? Stealing underwear and being "off" doesn't necessarily mean he was a ticking time bomb. We know in hindsight that is the case, of course. But these statements don't scream "cop killer" to me.

Just wanted to share this pic from cnn. This is solidarity. This is what our country needs. These people are surrounding a baby stroller while shots rang out. Let's hold on to this image in our hearts. Let's imagine everyone as a tiny child in a stroller, we all need to protect each other. image.jpeg

We all know there are five funerals coming.

We all know it is going to be 325 police cars, with lights on.

We all know there are going to be 978 cops at the funeral.

We all know the area is stressed.

Lets just hope nothing serious happens during any of these of funerals, when they need cops and cars that are at five funerals this week.

The only thing I can conclude that there are going to have to be vast areas of the area, that are not covered during this --cops and cars are at funerals

Very dangeroues IMO

Suspect was the only shooter, per mayor of dallas.

How on earth can a person teach himself how to do something like this?

Forgive me if I'm taking ^ post too literally by answering what may be a rhetorical Q.

IIUC, he was in the US Army & would have received some firearms training there (also in the Reserves, where he may have received more training and/or time shooting?) Then civilian range time, more range time, more range time. <--- re the nitty-gritty shooting aspect. A quick google search shows half a dozen gun ranges within ~10 miles of Mesquite. Here's a link to a training session at one a few miles further out: http://www.fusiongunrange.com/tactical-carbine.html
"....learning proper technique for moving & shooting, engaging multiple contacts, tactical reloading, weapons manipulation and more..."your
carbine skills to the next level learning proper technique for moving and shooting, engaging multiple contacts,

As to how someone could teach self to plan something like this? IDK. Personally I could not envision doing this in any way, shape, or form.

I don't see reflexive defensivism from people who support the police. Mostly because the people here who do largely DON'T support police misconduct, and think cases should be decided on the facts of each individual case. I've said it before and I'll say it again 99.9% of all officers are not defined by the behavior of .01%. I think as it applies to specific cases I have at times seen reflexive defensiveness towards LE, and I'm not speaking about WS specifically but about the discussion in all of society. I have also seen reflexive holding on to unsupportable beliefs about segments of society including LE in the face of facts that suggest more nuance is called for.
