Imo - Is one million enough?? Do they have enough charges against them? Will there be more?

From the article posted just above by @sds71 :

After the crash, Rice and Knox left the scene on an exit ramp with the other passengers that were in the cars, despite seeing the damages they caused.

The lawsuit said, “The victims and bystanders of the carnage tried to engage the Defendants, but they were ignored in the Defendants’ attempt to flee without responsibility.”

Both Gromova and Petrovskiy demand a trial by jury, according to the document. As for the four other victims in the crash, no statement or lawsuit has been released.

“Yeah, I’ve worked with Rashee (Rice) throughout the offseason just in general, so I’m sure we’ll continue that work as the legal process plays out,” Mahomes said.

[…]

“Well, yeah, listen, as long as he’s learned from it, that’s the important part of it. We’ll take it from there and see what takes place. Right now, we’re just kind of gathering everything and trying to make sure we have all the bases covered,” Reid said.

The lawsuit says Desai was injured in the collision, and those injuries may be permanent. He also claims to continue to suffer both physical and mental pain following the crash.

The lawsuit seeks money to cover medical care and expenses related to the crash, as well as any future medical bills. It also seeks lost wages and lost earnings capacity.

According to court records Rice agreed that he would not destroy any credit cards, debit cards, or receipts for any purchases he made within six hours of the crash. The restraining order also preserves any cell phone records, GPS information, and any blood or urine reports involving Rice that were taken shortly after the crash.

Here we go again!

Last line:

“Neither the Chiefs or the NFL have said how the lawsuits and criminal charges could impact Rice’s career.”

“We just want to clear our names because the report came out that there was a fight inside our place,” he said. “I was in the club whole night, and I was even outside, and then there was no fight in my place.”

KMBC News 9 ABC article by Nick Sloan updated May 24, 2024, entitled “Court records: Trial date set for first civil lawsuit filed against Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice”:

Seems to be one of the first civil suits resulting from the car speeding matter.

Is it awful quiet on any criminal matters or charges involving this? Would have thought there would have been more announced on this by now. Maybe it will become more clear before the start of the ‘season’. MOO

CNN online article by David Close entitled ‘NFL player Rashee Rice sentenced to jail time and probation following involvement in 2024 street racing incident’:

Of note from the article IIUC:

Rice pled guilty to multiple third degree felonies. This includes five (5) years probation. 30 days in jail.

The Lamborghini Urus SUV Rice was driving in March 2024 was traveling in excess of 119 mph on the Dallas’ North Central Expressway. It then lost control triggering a collision involving five other vehicles, six total including the vehicle Rice was driving.

119 mph……. It isn’t clear IMO whether or not Rice’s driving privileges will be revoked or suspended. Apparently the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL have not made comment on the latest IIUC.

A statement from the Chiefs states: “The club is aware of the reports. With it being an ongoing legal matter, we won’t have a comment at this time.”

IANAL. But with sentence having been made, IMO it is no longer an ‘ongoing legal matter’. MOO

Thanks for the update @I am not Sherlock H. Pretty light sentence in my book.

I wonder if this verdict cancels the March 2026 civil trial? Guessing it will.

Glad to post the latest update @TwinkieDefense ….. IANAL….. but I imagine that the civil case(s) might still proceed even in the wake of this criminal case? Unless they settle separately as well? But maybe an attorney will weigh in on this.

I also found it somewhat light as well as far as consequences for that conduct. Unfortunately. That speed and the carnage. The absence of any response from the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL is also not comforting. Particularly since IIUC the legal matter of the criminal case is completed. SMH. MOO

Rashee Rice will be a full participant in training camp, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Sunday, three days after the standout wide receiver was sentenced to 30 days in jail after authorities said he and another speeding driver caused a chain-reaction crash that left multiple people injured on a Dallas highway last year.

Whether he will be able to fully participate in the regular season remains to be seen.

“I’ve learned,” Rice continued, ”and taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that.”
