GUILTY TX - Riley 'Baby Grace' Sawyers, 2, brutally murdered, Spring, 24 July 2007

I'm only surprised they took an hour and 45 minutes. My guess is, they talked about Riley during that time.

I think the capital murder conviction was well deserved. A backhanded slap that kills a child--you can argue that the parent didn't know. A repeated slam against a tile floor preceded by a beating and near drowning in cold water--you'd have to be an idiot to not know the child could die.

LWOP (life without parole) is the maximum sentence for this. I'm going to bet Trenor gets it.

Zeigler should be very, very nervous.

Not one mention of the mother's guilty verdict on Headline News. I want to shout it from the rooftops. Anyway, Riley, I'm going to see this through! Now for justice to be served in the next case.

:woohoo:What a huge day for justice!!! Thank the Lord that the jury found this woman guilty and that she will get to think about what she did to her precious little girl for the rest of her life:behindbar

Kimberly Trenor's notebook, trial evidence, is available to see at www.chron.com. It's a very disturbing notebook because it's clear that Trenor really doesn't get what she did.

I think that Trenor was as a child, what we call in my teaching circles, a broken child. Whatever she suffered as a child, broke her permanently. She can't be fixed. She can't understand what she did, because she really thinks that she was doing the right thing in trying to teach Riley.

So a LWOP sentence for Trenor doesn't mean that she'll ever get it, I think. She saw Riley not saying please as a kind of deliberate, personal insult and attack.

Can we somehow get more counseling to parents like this, before the next Riley has to suffer so much?

No child should ever go through what Riley did. Taken from the home she knew at age two and given a completely different environment with a harsh and controlling stepfather--It would be enough for any child to regress, let alone advance.

The saddest and most heartbreaking thing to me is after she stood by and watched the abuse kill her child, Trenor then thinks about what to dress poor little Riley in.

Local news tonight said that Trenor's parents were present for trial, but refused to comment afterwards.

Also, she gave up parental rights to the baby she gave birth to, while in jail awaiting trial for Riley's murder.

Zeigler, however, has NOT given up parental rights. So there will be a trial for him to give up those rights for the little baby boy, who should be about 6-9 months now, if I remember correctly.

You killed one child, Royce, you aren't going to be allowed to keep rights to another while you are in prison for life.

So pathetic and so heartbreaking.

Thank God Baby Grace has received justice..

Justice served for precious Riley...may she rest in peace.

I'm glad she will never see the light of day again, but I wish the DA had put the death penalty on the table. People like these people really don't deserve to live.

There are still at least 2 more baby killing trials for the area. The guy who stomped his baby's head in and the guy who killed and burned his littles ones on father's day. These people should not be allowed to live, it should be an automatic death sentence.

Took less than 2 hours to put that monster away for life.

Thank you for the link concernedperson.

from the article quoted above:

"Zeigler, Trenor’s husband and Riley’s stepfather, will be tried separately on capital murder charges in Riley’s death. No trial date is set."

We will have to see when he gets his day in court. I hope it's soon. I also hope that this woman gets the maximum sentence.

As I said before, I hope the jury that sat for this trial doesn't bear the emotional pain of this trial for long, it surely had to be horrendous to listen to this.

OT~ I want to think that justice is served but in my heart it tells me it's not served. My heart is the heart of a Mother of five and 2 step-daughters. There can be no justice, so to speak, when a child is murdered or killed. They are gone ...forever. Now that I'm middle-aged, I am starting to comprehend just how long forever is and just how short our time on earth is in comparison.

Thank God for this verdict. It could not have gone any other way. However, I am concerned after reading the full text of trenor's journal, that zeigler might get off. What do you all think are his chances? Here's a link to the full text:

Can someone explain to me why this is not Major Headlining news with all the documents being discussed and the media all over their azzzes like they are with Casey ?

These people ARE completely EVIL

Casey did not treat her daughter like this. I know peoples thoughts on her and I don't want this to turn into a Casey thread but my point is THESE PEOPLE are proven to have done this Why isnt the media all over it ?

Look at that WOMAN laughing like she is sharing a joke

THERE IS NO FREAKING Remorse from her

This little girl was just as beautiful as Caylee

I do not understand why this isnt headlining
ITA this baby is as precious as caylee and as all of our babies ..but this little one reminds me of my daughter ..alot by how she looked .all children deserve equal media coverage when they are missing murdered .

I think the jury will see through the notebook if Zeigler's attorney tries to use it. He's going to try as hard as possible to put it all on her--good luck with that, you sorry excuse for a man.

His mother testified that she told both of them not to use the belt on Riley and there were bruises on Riley, in Trenor's trial.

He took off work, so there's going to be that record as well.

I can't see him getting anything less than what Trenor got. They both deserve so much more.

I still can't fathom how he could throw her on the floor three times. Makes me physically sick.

(Exhale!) I'm horrified to read the details of Riley's death per the mother's writings. It seems she just lost it & savagely beat her. Why were her expectations of behavior from a two years old so unjustly high? She turned her relationship with Riley into a power struggle. No surprise poor little Riley lost. I'm back to finding a little comfort in knowing Riley is beyond pain now. Kat, that gets to me too, Riley can't come back so what if her killer goes to jail. It's so unfair. But I am relieved the she will get a punishment for her vile and brutal actions. & gitana1, I wonder too if Trenor's writing's will make it more difficult to convict Ziegler as it seems like Trenor was acting alone.

Well, JVM just reported about the guilty verdict for Riley's mother on her show Issues. Great to see this case getting some air time. JVM said that Trenor received LWOP & she didn't hold back in stating her support of this sentence. JVM showed a picture of Trenor at her sentencing & described her reaction as emotionless.

By the way, do we have a date for the stepfather's trial yet?

Couldn't this girl's mother see what a gift she was? I'll never forget her. She's certainly touched my life.

No. She really couldn't and probably never would have been able to see that. But then, she was pregnant when she was fifteen.

I think the only consolation, if there is any, is as you said, Riley touched your life. She certainly touched mine even when I only knew her as Baby Grace.

I keep looking at the history and wondering if there was any intervention that would have saved Riley. She wasn't like so many children who die of abuse and neglect. There were people who loved Riley who would have taken her in a heartbeat.

By the way, I've driven past the Wal-Mart where Zeigler and Trenor (I think they were both together) bought the container that they dumped Riley in. It was a horrific thought.

This case has really affected me. This mother is evil... purely evil... and so is that stepfather. I am happy that Trenor will live the rest of her despicable life locked away from society. I hope that Zeigler gets the same sentence. I just wish that both had received the death penalty. Both are low-life no good for nothing cowards. I have really suffered while reading about this case, I truly feel for the jurors as I know that they really suffered listening to the testimony regarding the abuse during this trial - but they did a fabulous job in putting this monster away for life! God bless them, and god bless Riley and may she rest in peace.

I heard that she was emotionless, which does not surprise me...anyone who would assist in doing the things that she did to an innocent and helpless sweet child and allow a bully to come into her life and brutalize and murder her child. I don't think I can follow his trial... I can barely speak about this trial without becoming so angry. This has really really hurt me....
